1 "Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.	1 Badate di non fare le vostre buone opere alla presenza degli uomini col fine d'esser veduti da loro: altrimenti non ne sarete rimunerati dal Padre vostro, che è ne' cieli.
2 "Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.	2 Quando adunque farai limosina, non sonar la tromba davanti a te, come fanno gli ipocriti nelle sinagoghe, e nelle piazze per essere onorati dagli uomini: vi dico in verità, che costoro hanno già ricevuto la loro mercede,
3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,	3 Ma quando tu fai limosina, non sappia la tua sinistra quel, che fa la tua destra:
4 so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.	4 Dimodochè la tua limosina sia segreta: e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, te ne darà egli la ricompensa.
5 "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.	5 E allorché orate, non fate come gl'ipocriti, i quali amano di stare a orare nelle sinagoghe, e a' capi delle strade, affine di essere osservati dagli uomini: in verità io vi dico, che hanno ricevuto la loro ricompensa.
6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.	6 Ma tu, quando fai orazione, entra nella tua camera, e chiusa la porta, prega in segreto il tuo Padre: e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, te ne renderà la ricompensa.
7 "And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words.	7 Non vogliate nelle vostre orazioni, usar molte parole, come i pagani; imperocché essi si pensano d'essere esauditi mediante il molto parlare.
8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.	8 Non siate adunque come essi: imperocché il vostro Padre sa prima che glielo addimandiate, di quali cose abbiate bisogno.
9 Pray then like this: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.	9 Voi adunque orate cosi: Padre nostro, che sei ne' cieli, sia santiticato il tuo nome,
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.	10 Venga il tuo regno: sia fatta la tua volontà, come nel cielo, cosi anche in terra.
11 Give us this day our daily bread;	11 Dacci oggi il nostro pane per sostentamento.
12 And forgive us our debts, As we also have forgiven our debtors;	12 E rimettici i nostri debiti, come noi pure li rimettiamo a chi ci è debitore.
13 And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.	13 E non ci indurre in tentazione. Ma liberaci dal male. Così sia.
14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you;	14 Imperocché se voi perdonerete agli uomini i loro mancamenti: il vostro Padre celeste vi perdonerà similmente i vostri peccati.
15 but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.	15 Ma se voi non perdonate agli uomini i loro mancamenti: né meno il Padre celeste perdonerà a voi i vostri.
16 "And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.	16 Quando poi digiunate, non vogliate far i malinconici, come gl' ipocriti: imperocché questi sfigurano il proprio volto, affin di dare a conoscere agli uomini, che digiunano. In verità io vi dico, che han ricevuto la loro mercede.
17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,	17 Ma tu, quando digiuni, profumati la testa, e lavati la faccia;
18 that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.	18 Affinchè il tuo digiuno sia noto non agli uomini, ma al tuo Padre celeste, il quale sta nel segreto: e il Padre tuo, il quale vede in segreto, te ne darà la ricompensa.
19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal,	19 Non cercate di accumular tesori sopra la terra: dove la ruggine, e i vermi li consumano: e dove i ladri li dissotterrano, e li rubano.
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.	20 Ma proccurate di accumular de' tesori nel cielo: dove la ruggine, e i vermi non li consumano; e ove i ladri non li dissotterrano, né li rubano.
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.	21 Imperciocché dove è il tuo tesoro, ivi è il tuo cuore.
22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light;	22 Lucerna del tuo corpo è il tuo occhio. Se il tuo occhio è semplice; tutto il tuo corpo sarà illuminato.
23 but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!	23 Ma se il tuo occhio è difettoso, tutto il tuo corpo sarà ottenebrato. Se Adunque la luce, che è in te, diventa tenebrosa: quanto grandi saranno le stesse tenebre?
24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.	24 Nissuno può servire due padroni: imperocché od odierà l'uno, e amerà l'altro; o sarà affezionato al primo, e disprezzerà il secondo. Non potete servire a Dio, e alle ricchezze.
25 "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?	25 Per questo vi dico: non vi prende te affanno né di quello, onde alimentare fa vostra vita, né di quello, onde vestire il vostro corpo. La vita non vale ella più dell'alimento, e il corpo più del vestito?
26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?	26 Gettate lo sguardo sopra gli uccelli dell'aria; i quali non seminano, non mietono, né empiono granai: e il vostro Padre celeste li pasce. Non siete voi assai da più di essi?
27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life?	27 Ma chi è di voi, che con tutto il suo pensare possa aggiuntare alla sua statura un cubito?
28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin;	28 E perché vi prendete pena pel vestito? Pensate come crescono i gigli del campo: essi non lavorano, e non filano.
29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.	29 Or io vi dico, che né meno Salomone con tutta la sua splendidezza fu mai vestito come uno di questi.
30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith?	30 Se adunque in tal modo riveste Dio un'erba del campo, che oggi è, e domani vien gettata nel forno; quanto più voi, gente di poca fede.
31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'	31 Non vogliale adunque angustiarvi dicendo: Cosa mangeremo, o cosa berremo, o di che ci vestiremo?
32 For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.	32 Imperocché tali sono le cure de' gentili. Ora il vostro Padre sa, che di tutte queste cose avete bisogno.
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.	33 Cercate adunque in primo luogo il regno di Dio, e la sua giustizia: e avrete di soprappiù tutte queste cose.
34 "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.	34 Non vogliate adunque mettervi in pena pel dì di domane. Imperocché il dì di domane avrà pensiero per se: basta a ciascun giorno il suo affanno.
