Matthew 18

1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"	1 In quella ora andorono li discepoli a Iesù, e disseno Signore, chi pensi che sia maggiore nel regno del cielo?
2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them,	2 E Iesù chiamò uno fanciullo, e poselo in mezzo di loro.
3 and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.	3 E disse: in verità vi dico, che se voi non doventarete fatti come è questo fanciullo, non entrarete nel regno del cielo.
4 Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.	4 Imperò che qualunque si umilierà come questo fanciullo, egli è maggiore nel regno del cielo.
5 "Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me;	5 E chiunque riceverà uno di questi parvoli nel nome mio, me riceverà.
6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.	6 E chiunque scandalizzerà uno di questi minimi che credono in me, meglio sarebbe che con una macina al collo fosse gittato nel profondo del
7 "Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the man by whom the temptation comes!	7 Ma guai al mondo per li scandali! Necessario è (al mondo) che vengano li scandali; ma guai a colui per cui viene il scandalo.
8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire.	8 Se la mano o lo piede ti scandalizza, taglialo e gittalo da te; imperò che meglio è a te andare alla vita debile e stroncato, che avere due mani e due piedi, ed essere posto nel fuoco eternale.
9 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.	9 E se (il digito o) l'occhio ti scandalizza, trattelo fuori e gittalo da te; imperò che meglio a te è andare a vita eterna con uno occhio, che averne duo, ed esser messo nella fiamma in eterno.
10 "See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.	10 E imperò guardatevi che voi non dispregiate alcuno di questi minimi; imperò che vi dico che li angioli loro sempre vedono la faccia del Padre mio ch' è in cielo.
11 .	11 Imperò ch' egli è venuto il Figliuolo dell' uomo a salvare quel ch' era perito.
12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?	12 Che vi pare? Se a uno saranno cento pecore, e una di quelle sarà smarrita, non lascia egli le novantanove ne' monti, e va a cercare quella ch' è smarrita?
13 And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray.	13 E se intravenerà ch' egli la trovi, in verità vi dico ch' egli si rallegra più sopra quella, che sopra le novantanove le quali non si smarrirono.
14 So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.	14 A tal modo il Padre vostro, il quale è in cielo, non vuole che perisca uno di questi piccolini.
15 "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.	15 Ma se il tuo fratello peccherà contra di te, e tu sapendolo digli intra te e lni solo; e s'egli ti udirà, hai guadagnato il tuo fratello.
16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses.	16 Ma se ei non ti vuole udire, piglia con te uno o due; conciosia che nella bocca di due o tre sta ferma testimonianza di ogni parola.
17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.	17 E se egli non li vuole udire, dillo alla Chiesa; e se non vorrà udire la Chiesa, abbilo sì come grande peccatore ed escomunicato.
18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.	18 E anche dico a voi, che qualunque voi legherete sopra la terra, sarà legato in cielo; e chiunque voi scioglierete in terra, sarà sciolto in cielo.
19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.	19 E anche vi dico che se duo di voi s'accorderanno sopra la terra, qualunque cosa domanderanno sarà fatta a loro dal Padre mio ch' è in cielo.
20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them."	20 Imperò [che] dove sono duoi ovvero tre congregati nel nome mio, io sono in mezzo di loro.
21 Then Peter came up and said to him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?"	21 Allora disse Pietro: se il mio fratello peccarà sette volte, perdònogli io?
22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.	22 E Iesu li disse: non dico solamente sette volte, ma settanta volte sette.
23 "Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants.	23 E però simile è il regno del cielo a uno re, il quale vuol vedere sua ragione con li suoi servi.
24 When he began the reckoning, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents;	24 E cominciando a fare la ragione, fugli menato uno (servo) che li doveva dare dieci milia talenti.
25 and as he could not pay, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made.	25 E non avendo donde pagare, comandò il signore, ch' elli, la mogliere e' suoi figliuoli e ogni una cosa fosse venduta, acciò che (vendesse e) pagasse.
26 So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, 'Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.'	26 Allora quello servo gittossi in terra (con le ginocchia), e pregò questo signore, dicendo: abbi pazienza in me, e ogni cosa ti renderò.
27 And out of pity for him the lord of that servant released him and forgave him the debt.	27 Allora il signore ebbe misericordia di lui, e perdonògli tutto il debito, e lasciollo libero.
28 But that same servant, as he went out, came upon one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and seizing him by the throat he said, 'Pay what you owe.'	28 E uscito che fu fuori, questo servo trovò uno de' suoi conservi, che gli doveva dare cento denari; presolo per lo collo, e affogavalo e diceva: pagami quel che mi debbi dare.
29 So his fellow servant fell down and besought him, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you.'	29 E quello se gli gittò a piedi (inginocchiato) dicendo: abbi misericordia di me, e ogni cosa ti renderò.
30 He refused and went and put him in prison till he should pay the debt.	30 E quello non volle (farli misericordia); e puoselo in pregione, per insino a tanto che (pagasse e) rendesse il debito.
31 When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place.	31 E vedendo questo li altri servi, ebbero grande dolore; e andorono al signore loro, e tutte queste cose li dissero.
32 Then his lord summoned him and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you besought me;	32 Allora il signore, chiamato questo tal servo, disseli: servo iniquo, tutto il debito ti lasciai, perchè me ne pregasti.
33 and should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?'	33 Perchè adunque non hai avuto misericordia del tuo conservo, come ho abuto misericordia di te?
34 And in anger his lord delivered him to the jailers, till he should pay all his debt.	34 E adirossi il signore contra costui, e dettelo ai tormentatori (che il tormentassero) insino a tanto che rendesse tutto il debito.
35 So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart."	35 E così il mio Padre celestiale farà di voi, se non perdonarete alli vostri fraielli di buono cuore.
