Matthew 18

1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"	1 Allora s'accostarono a Gesù i suoi discepoli e gli dissero: Chi è più grande nel regno dei cieli?
2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them,	2 E Gesù chiamato un pargoletto, lo pose in mezzo a loro
3 and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.	3 e disse: In verità vi dico: se non mutate, e non divenite come pargoli, non entrerete nel regno dei cieli.
4 Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.	4 Chiunque pertanto diventerà umile come questo fanciullo, quello è il più grande nel regno dei cieli.
5 "Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me;	5 Chiunque accoglierà in nome mio un pargolo come questo, accoglie me.
6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.	6 Chi poi avrà scandalizzato uno di questi piccini che credono in me, sarebbe meglio per lui che gli fosse appesa al collo una macina da asino e fosse sommerso nel fondo del mare.
7 "Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the man by whom the temptation comes!	7 Guai al mondo per gli scandali! Certo, è necessario che ci siano degli scandali, ma guai all'uomo per cui lo scandalo succede!
8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire.	8 Or se la tua mano e il tuo piede t'è di scandalo, troncalo e gettalo via da te: meglio è per te giunger alla vita monco e zoppo che, con due mani o due piedi, essere gettato nel fuoco eterno.
9 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.	9 E se l'occhio tuo ti è di scandalo cavatelo, e gettalo via da te, meglio è per te entrare nella vita con un occhio solo che esser gettato con due, nel fuoco dell'inferno.
10 "See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.	10 Guardatevi dal disprezzare uno di questi fanciulli: vi assicuro che i loro angeli nei cieli vedon sempre il volto del Padre mio che è nei cieli.
11 .	11 Certamente il Figlio dell'uomo è venuto a salvare ciò che s'era perduto.
12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?	12 Che ve ne pare? Se un uomo ha cento pecore ed una di esse si smarrisce, non lascia le novantanove sui monti e va a cercare la smarrita?
13 And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray.	13 E se gli avvenga di trovarla, in verità vi dico si rallegra più di questa che delle novantanove non smarrite.
14 So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.	14 Così non è volontà del Padre vostro celeste che perisca uno solo di questi piccini.
15 "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.	15 Se tuo fratello ha peccato contro di te, va' e correggilo fra te e lui solo; se t'ascolta, hai guadagnato il tuo fratello.
16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses.	16 E se non ti ascolta, prendi con te uno o due, affinchè per bocca di due o tre testimoni si stabilisca ogni cosa.
17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.	17 E se non ne fa caso, fallo sapere alla Chiesa; se poi non ascolta nemmeno la Chiesa, consideralo come un Gentile e un pubblicano.
18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.	18 In verità vi dico: quanto legherete sulla terra sarà legato nel cielo; e quanto scioglierete sulla terra sarà sciolto nel cielo.
19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.	19 Ancora vi dico: se due di voi s'accorderanno sulla terra a domandare qualsiasi cosa, sarà loro concessa dal Padre mio che è nei cieli.
20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them."	20 Perchè dove sono due o tre adunati in nome mio ci sono io in mozzo a loro.
21 Then Peter came up and said to him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?"	21 Allora Pietro, accostatosi a lui, disse: Signore, fino a quante volte, se il mio fratello pecca contro di me, gli dovrò perdonare? fino a sette volte?
22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.	22 Gesù gli rispose: Non ti dico fino a sette, ma fino a settanta volte sette.
23 "Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants.	23 Per questo il regno dei cieli è simile ad un re il quale volle fare i conti coi suoi servi.
24 When he began the reckoning, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents;	24 Ed avendo cominciato a fare i conti, gli fu presentato uno che era debitore di dieci mila talenti.
25 and as he could not pay, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made.	25 E siccome ei non aveva da pagare, il padrone comandò che fosse venduto lui e la moglie ei figli e quanto aveva, e si saldas­se il debito.
26 So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, 'Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.'	26 Ma il servo, gettatoglisi ai piedi, lo scongiurava con dire: Abbi pazienza con me e ti pagherò tutto.
27 And out of pity for him the lord of that servant released him and forgave him the debt.	27 E il padrone,mosso a compassione di quel ser­vo,lo lasciò andare condonan­dogli il debito.
28 But that same servant, as he went out, came upon one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and seizing him by the throat he said, 'Pay what you owe.'	28 Ma, uscito di lì, quel servo trovò uno dei suoi conservi che gli doveva cento danari; e presolo per la gola lo strangolava dicendo: Paga quan­to mi devi.
29 So his fellow servant fell down and besought him, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you.'	29 E il conservo gettatoglisi ai piedi, si raccomanda­va dicendo: Abbi pazienza conme e ti soddisferò di tutto.
30 He refused and went and put him in prison till he should pay the debt.	30 Ma costui non volle, anzi andò a far­lo mettere in prigione fino a che non avesse pagato.
31 When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place.	31 Ora i con­sèrvi vedendo quel che accadeva, grandemente contristati, anda­rono a riferirlo al padrone.
32 Then his lord summoned him and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you besought me;	32 Al­lora il padrone chiamò quel ser­vitore e gli disse: Servo ini­quo, io ti ho condonato tutto quel debito perchè ti raccoman­dasti,
33 and should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?'	33 e non dovevi anche tu aver pietà d'un tuo conservo, come io l'ho avuta di te?
34 And in anger his lord delivered him to the jailers, till he should pay all his debt.	34 E sdegnato lo consegnò ai manigoldi, fino a che non avesse pagato tutto il debito.
35 So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart."	35 Così anche il Padre mio farà a voi, se di cuore ognun di voi non perdona al proprio fratello.
