1 And Balaam said to Balak, "Build for me here seven altars, and provide for me here seven bulls and seven rams."	1 Disse Balaam a Balac: fammi edificare sette altari, e apparecchia altrettanti vitelli e altrettanti montoni.
2 Balak did as Balaam had said; and Balak and Balaam offered on each altar a bull and a ram.	2 E avendo fatto Balac secondo che parlò Ba laam, (fece preparare le bestie; e) puoseno insieme il vitello e il montone sopra l'altare.
3 And Balaam said to Balak, "Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the LORD will come to meet me; and whatever he shows me I will tell you." And he went to a bare height.	3 E disse Balaam a Balac: sta uno poco appresso il tuo sacrificio, insino a tanto ch' io vada a vedere, se Iddio apparisce a me; e ciò ch' egli comanderà, io ti dirò.
4 And God met Balaam; and Balaam said to him, "I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered upon each altar a bull and a ram."	4 E sì tosto com' egli si fue partito, Iddio gli apparve. E parlò Balaam a Dio, e dissegli: io t'hoe rizzati sette altari, e sopra ognuno puosi uno vitello e uno montone.
5 And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak."	5 E (dopo questo,) Dio gli puose in bocca quello che dovesse parlare, e dissegli: torna a Balac, e parlerai questo.
6 And he returned to him, and lo, he and all the princes of Moab were standing beside his burnt offering.	6 E egli, tornando a Balac, trovollo presso al suo sacrificio, e tutti i principi de' Moabiti.
7 And Balaam took up his discourse, and said, "From Aram Balak has brought me, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains: 'Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, denounce Israel!'	7 E incominciò a parlare, dicendo: di Aram mi ha fatto venire Balac, re de' Moabiti, de' monti d'oriente: vieni, disse, e maledici Iacob; va, e bia stema Israel.
8 How can I curse whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced?	8 Come maledicerò colui che Iddio non ha maledetto? Con che ragione abbominerò io coloro che Iddio non ha abbominato?
9 For from the top of the mountains I see him, from the hills I behold him; lo, a people dwelling alone, and not reckoning itself among the nations!	9 Io gli vederò della sommità del monte e dei monti piccoli, e sì gli considererò. Ed egli abiterà (per sè) popolo solo, e infra le genti non sarà reputato.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my end be like his!"	10 Chi potrebbe annumerare la polvere di Jacob, e sapere il numero della schiatta d'Israel? Muoia l'anima mia della morte de' giusti, e [sia] la vita mia simile alla loro.
11 And Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have done nothing but bless them."	11 Disse Balac a Balaam: che è quello che tu fai? Acciò che tu maledicessi li nemici miei io ti feci venire qua; e tu per contrario gli benedici?
12 And he answered, "Must I not take heed to speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?"	12 Rispuose Balaam: io non posso parlare, se non quello che m'hae comandato Iddio.
13 And Balak said to him, "Come with me to another place, from which you may see them; you shall see only the nearest of them, and shall not see them all; then curse them for me from there."	13 E Balac disse (a Balaam): vieni meco in una altra parte, dove tu vederai parte del popolo, e tutto nol potrai vedere (da quella parte); e di là fae che tu lo maledichi.
14 And he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.	14 E quando l'ebbe menato più in alto nel monte di Fasga, edificò Balaam sette altari; e puose sopra ognuno, vitello uno e uno montone.
15 Balaam said to Balak, "Stand here beside your burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder."	15 E disse a Balac: istà qui presso al tuo olocausto, insino ch' io vada incontro a Dio.
16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and thus shall you speak."	16 E trovato ch' ebbe Iddio, prestogli Iddio nella bocca quello che dovesse parlare, e sì gli disse: ritorna a Balac, e parlagli quello ch' io t'hoe detto.
17 And he came to him, and, lo, he was standing beside his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, "What has the LORD spoken?"	17 E tornato, sì lo trovò presso al suo olocau sto, e li principi de' Moabiti con lui. E Balac disse: che hai tu parlato a Dio?
18 And Balaam took up his discourse, and said, "Rise, Balak, and hear; hearken to me, O son of Zippor:	18 Cominciò Balaam a parlare, e disse: istà Balac, e ascolta; odi, figliuolo di Sefor.
19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfil it?	19 Non è Iddio come uomo che menta, nè come uomo che si muti. Non è egli colui che dica la cosa, e non la faccia; e non parla invano.
20 Behold, I received a command to bless: he has blessed, and I cannot revoke it.	20 Io sono menato a benedicere, e alla benedizione non posso obviare.
21 He has not beheld misfortune in Jacob; nor has he seen trouble in Israel. The LORD their God is with them, and the shout of a king is among them.	21 Sappi che in Jacob non è idolo, nè si vede statua in Israel. Il Signore mio Iddio è con loro; e ogni vittoria hanno con loro.
22 God brings them out of Egypt; they have as it were the horns of the wild ox.	22 E Iddio gli ha menati d'Egitto, la cui for tezza è simile all'unicorno.
23 For there is no enchantment against Jacob, no divination against Israel; now it shall be said of Jacob and Israel, 'What has God wrought!'	23 Non fanno malie in lacob, nè indovinazione in Israel. Tutto il tempo loro saranno detti, Iacob e Israel, l'operazione di Dio.
24 Behold, a people! As a lioness it rises up and as a lion it lifts itself; it does not lie down till it devours the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain."	24 Ecco il popolo come leonessa si leverà, e come leone si dirizzerà; non dormirà (lo leone), insino a tanto che non levi preda, e bea lo sangue delle bestie morte.
25 And Balak said to Balaam, "Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all."	25 Disse Balac a Balaam: non lo maledicere, e non lo benedicere.
26 But Balaam answered Balak, "Did I not tell you, 'All that the LORD says, that I must do'?"	26 Ed egli rispuose; non t'hoe detto, che ciò che Iddio mi comanda io farò?
27 And Balak said to Balaam, "Come now, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there."	27 E Balac gli disse: vieni, e menerotti a uno altro luogo; e forse piacerà a Dio che li maledichi d'indi.
28 So Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, that overlooks the desert.	28 E menato che l'ebbe sopra il monte di Fogor, riguardò la solitudine.
29 And Balaam said to Balak, "Build for me here seven altars, and provide for me here seven bulls and seven rams."	29 E dissegli Balaam: editica qui sette altari, e apparecchia tanti vitelli e montoni.
30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.	30 Fece Balac come disse Balaam; e pose li vitelli e li montoni sopra ogni altare.
