1 And Balaam said to Balak, "Build for me here seven altars, and provide for me here seven bulls and seven rams."	1 Balaam dijo de Balac: «Constrúyeme aquí siete altares y prepárame siete novillos y siete carneros».
2 Balak did as Balaam had said; and Balak and Balaam offered on each altar a bull and a ram.	2 Balac hizo lo que Balaam le había indicado, y entre los dos ofrecieron un novillo y un carnero en cada altar.
3 And Balaam said to Balak, "Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the LORD will come to meet me; and whatever he shows me I will tell you." And he went to a bare height.	3 Luego Balaam dijo a Balac: «Quédate junto a tus ofrendas, mientras voy a ver si el Señor me hace una revelación. Yo te comunicaré lo que él me manifieste». Y se fue a una colina desierta.
4 And God met Balaam; and Balaam said to him, "I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered upon each altar a bull and a ram."	4 El Señor se reveló a Balaam, y este le dijo: «Yo erigí los siete altares, y ofrecí un novillo y un carnero en cada altar».
5 And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak."	5 Entonces el Señor puso una palabra en la boca de Balaam y le dijo: «Regresa adonde está Balac y háblale de esta manera».
6 And he returned to him, and lo, he and all the princes of Moab were standing beside his burnt offering.	6 Balaam regresó y lo encontró de pie junto a su holocausto, acompañado de todos los jefes de Moab.
7 And Balaam took up his discourse, and said, "From Aram Balak has brought me, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains: 'Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, denounce Israel!'	7 Entonces pronunció su poema, diciendo: «Desde Aram me hizo venir Balac, el rey de Moab desde las montañas del este: "¡Ven, maldíceme a Jacob, ven, pronuncia una execración contra Israel!".
8 How can I curse whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced?	8 ¿Cómo maldeciré a quien Dios no ha maldecido? ¿Cómo execraré a quien Dios no ha execrado?
9 For from the top of the mountains I see him, from the hills I behold him; lo, a people dwelling alone, and not reckoning itself among the nations!	9 Cuando lo miro desde la cima de las montañas y lo contemplo desde las colinas, veo un pueblo que vive aparte y no se cuenta entre las naciones.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my end be like his!"	10 ¿Quién puede contar el polvo de Jacob, o numerar la polvareda de Israel? ¡Que yo muera la muerte de los justos, y que mi fin sea como el suyo!».
11 And Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have done nothing but bless them."	11 Balac dijo a Balaam: «¿Qué me has hecho? Yo te traje para que maldijeras a mis enemigos, y tú los has bendecido».
12 And he answered, "Must I not take heed to speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?"	12 «Yo sólo puedo repetir fielmente lo que el Señor pone en mi boca», respondió Balaam.
13 And Balak said to him, "Come with me to another place, from which you may see them; you shall see only the nearest of them, and shall not see them all; then curse them for me from there."	13 Entonces Balac le dijo: «Ven conmigo a otro lugar desde donde podrás verlos, si no a todos, por los menos a una parte de ellos, y maldícemelos desde allí».
14 And he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.	14 En seguida lo llevó al campo de Sufím, en la cima del Pisgá. Allí construyó siete altares, y ofreció un novillo y un carnero en cada altar.
15 Balaam said to Balak, "Stand here beside your burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder."	15 Entonces Balaam dijo a Balac: «Quédate aquí, junto a tu holocausto, mientras yo voy más allá en busca de una revelación».
16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and thus shall you speak."	16 El Señor se reveló a Balaam y se puso una palabra en su boca. Luego le dijo: «Regresa adonde está Balac y háblale de esta manera».
17 And he came to him, and, lo, he was standing beside his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, "What has the LORD spoken?"	17 Al llegar, lo encontró de pie junto a su holocausto, acompañado de los jefes de Moab. Balac le preguntó: «¿Qué ha dicho el Señor?».
18 And Balaam took up his discourse, and said, "Rise, Balak, and hear; hearken to me, O son of Zippor:	18 Entonces Balaam pronunció su poema, diciendo: «¡Levántate, Balac, y escucha, préstame atención, hijo de Sipor!
19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfil it?	19 Dios no es un hombre, para mentir; ni es un mortal, para desdecirse: ¿Acaso él dice y no hace, promete una cosa y no cumple?
20 Behold, I received a command to bless: he has blessed, and I cannot revoke it.	20 Yo recibí la misión de bendecir: él ha bendecido y no lo puedo contradecir.
21 He has not beheld misfortune in Jacob; nor has he seen trouble in Israel. The LORD their God is with them, and the shout of a king is among them.	21 No se ve ningún mal en Jacob ni se percibe ninguna desgracia en Israel. El Señor, su Dios, está con él, y entre ellos se oye proclamar a un rey.
22 God brings them out of Egypt; they have as it were the horns of the wild ox.	22 Dios, que lo hace salir de Egipto, es para él como los cuernos de un búfalo.
23 For there is no enchantment against Jacob, no divination against Israel; now it shall be said of Jacob and Israel, 'What has God wrought!'	23 No hay magia en Jacob ni adivinación en Israel: a su debido tiempo se le dirá a Jacob y a Israel lo que hace Dios.
24 Behold, a people! As a lioness it rises up and as a lion it lifts itself; it does not lie down till it devours the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain."	24 Un pueblo se alza como una leona, se yergue como un león: no se recuesta hasta devorar la presa y beber la sangre de sus víctimas».
25 And Balak said to Balaam, "Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all."	25 Balac dijo entonces a Balaam: «Si no lo maldices, ¡por lo menos no lo bendigas!».
26 But Balaam answered Balak, "Did I not tell you, 'All that the LORD says, that I must do'?"	26 Pero Balaam respondió a Balac: «Ya te advertí que haría todo lo que el Señor me dijera».
27 And Balak said to Balaam, "Come now, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there."	27 Luego Balac dijo a Balaam: «Ven, te llevaré a otro lugar. Tal vez Dios vea con buenos ojos que me los maldigas desde allí».
28 So Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, that overlooks the desert.	28 En seguida lo llevó a la cima del Peor, que domina la región desértica,
29 And Balaam said to Balak, "Build for me here seven altars, and provide for me here seven bulls and seven rams."	29 y Balaam dijo a Balac: «Constrúyeme aquí siete altares y prepárame siete novillos y siete carneros».
