| 2 "Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, by families, by fathers' houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head; | 2 “Take a total of the entire assembly of the sons of Israel, by their families and houses, and the names of each one, of whomever is of the male sex, |
| 3 from twenty years old and upward, all in Israel who are able to go forth to war, you and Aaron shall number them, company by company. | 3 from twenty years and above, of all the able-bodied men out of Israel, and you shall number them by their companies, you and Aaron. |
| 4 And there shall be with you a man from each tribe, each man being the head of the house of his fathers. | 4 And there shall be with you the leaders of the tribes, as well as of the houses, in their kinships, |

| 20 The people of Reuben, Israel's first-born, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war: | 20 Of Ruben, the firstborn of Israel, by their generations and families and houses, and the names of each head, of all who were of the male sex, from twenty years and above, capable of going to war, |
| 21 the number of the tribe of Reuben was forty-six thousand five hundred. | 21 there were forty-six thousand five hundred. |
| 22 Of the people of Simeon, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, those of them that were numbered, according to the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war: | 22 Of the sons of Simeon, by their generations and families, and the houses of their kinships, having been counted by the names and heads of each one, of all who were of the male sex, from twenty years and above, capable of going to war, |
| 23 the number of the tribe of Simeon was fifty-nine thousand three hundred. | 23 there were fifty-nine thousand three hundred. |

| 26 Of the people of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war: | 26 Of the sons of Judah, by their generations and families, and the houses of their kinships, by the names of each one, from twenty years and above, of all who were able to go forth to war, |
| 27 the number of the tribe of Judah was seventy-four thousand six hundred. | 27 there were counted seventy-four thousand six hundred. |

| 44 These are those who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered with the help of the leaders of Israel, twelve men, each representing his fathers' house. | 44 These are the ones who were numbered by Moses and Aaron and the twelve leaders of Israel, each one by the houses of their kinships. |

| 46 their whole number was six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty. | 46 six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty men. |
| 47 But the Levites were not numbered by their ancestral tribe along with them. | 47 But the Levites in the tribes of their families were not numbered with them. |
| 48 For the LORD said to Moses, | 48 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: |
| 49 "Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, and you shall not take a census of them among the people of Israel; | 49 “Do not number the tribe of Levi, neither shall you take a total of them with the sons of Israel. |
| 50 but appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it; they are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings, and they shall tend it, and shall encamp around the tabernacle. | 50 But appoint them over the tabernacle of the testimony, and all its vessels, and whatever pertains to the ceremonies. They shall carry the tabernacle and all its articles. And they shall be for the ministry, and they shall encamp all around the tabernacle. |
| 51 When the tabernacle is to set out, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up. And if any one else comes near, he shall be put to death. | 51 When you would depart, the Levites shall take down the tabernacle. When you are to make camp, they shall set it up. Any outsider who will approach it shall be killed. |
| 52 The people of Israel shall pitch their tents by their companies, every man by his own camp and every man by his own standard; | 52 Now the sons of Israel shall make camp, each one by his companies and bands, as well as his army. |
| 53 but the Levites shall encamp around the tabernacle of the testimony, that there may be no wrath upon the congregation of the people of Israel; and the Levites shall keep charge of the tabernacle of the testimony." | 53 Moreover, the Levites shall fix their tents all around the tabernacle, lest there be an indignation over the multitude of the sons of Israel. And they shall stand watch as guardians over the tabernacle of the testimony.” |
| 54 Thus did the people of Israel; they did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses. | 54 Therefore, the sons of Israel acted according to everything that the Lord had instructed Moses. |
