1 The LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,	1 Le premier jour du second mois, la deuxième année après la sortie d’Égypte, Yahvé parla à Moïse au désert du Sinaï, dans la Tente du Rendez-Vous.
2 "Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, by families, by fathers' houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head;	2 Il lui dit: “Recensez toute la communauté des Israélites par clans et par familles, relevez le nom de tous les mâles et comptez-les un par un.
3 from twenty years old and upward, all in Israel who are able to go forth to war, you and Aaron shall number them, company by company.	3 Toi et Aaron, vous enregistrerez tous les Israélites de 20 ans et plus, capables de porter les armes, selon leurs formations de combat.
4 And there shall be with you a man from each tribe, each man being the head of the house of his fathers.	4 Dans chaque tribu il y aura un quelqu’un pour vous aider, un chef de famille.
5 And these are the names of the men who shall attend you. From Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur;	5 Voici les noms de ceux qui vous aideront: Pour Ruben, Élisour, fils de Chédéour;
6 from Simeon, Shelumi-el the son of Zurishaddai;	6 pour Siméon, Cheloumiel, fils de Surichaddaï;
7 from Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab;	7 pour Juda, Nachon, fils d’Aminadab;
8 from Issachar, Nethanel the son of Zuar;	8 pour Issacar, Nétanéel, fils de Suar;
9 from Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon;	9 pour Zabulon, Éliab, fils de Hélon;
10 from the sons of Joseph, from Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud, and from Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur;	10 pour les fils de Joseph, pour Éphraïm: Élichama, fils d’Ammihoud; pour Manassé, Gamliel, fils de Pedahsur;
11 from Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gideoni;	11 pour Benjamin, Abidan, fils de Gidéoni;
12 from Dan, Ahi-ezer the son of Ammishaddai;	12 pour Dan, Ahiézer, fils d’Amichaddaï;
13 from Asher, Pagiel the son of Ochran;	13 pour Asher, Pagiel, fils d’Okran;
14 from Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel;	14 pour Gad, Éliasaf, fils de Réouel;
15 from Naphtali, Ahira the son of Enan."	15 pour Nephtali, Ahira, fils d’Énan.
16 These were the ones chosen from the congregation, the leaders of their ancestral tribes, the heads of the clans of Israel.	16 Voilà ceux qui furent choisis dans l’assemblée. Ils étaient chefs dans la tribu de leur père, ils étaient chefs des clans d’Israël.
17 Moses and Aaron took these men who have been named,	17 Moïse et Aaron prirent ces hommes qui avaient été inscrits personnellement.
18 and on the first day of the second month, they assembled the whole congregation together, who registered themselves by families, by fathers' houses, according to the number of names from twenty years old and upward, head by head,	18 Ils rassemblèrent toute la communauté le premier jour du second mois, et tous les hommes au-dessus de vingt ans s’inscrivirent dans leur clan selon leur maison paternelle. Ils furent ainsi comptés
19 as the LORD commanded Moses. So he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai.	19 selon ce que Yahvé avait ordonné à Moïse. On fit le recensement dans le désert du Sinaï.
20 The people of Reuben, Israel's first-born, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war:	20 Pour les fils de Ruben, premier-né d’Israël, on releva leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
21 the number of the tribe of Reuben was forty-six thousand five hundred.	21 Pour la tribu de Ruben, on en recensa 46 500.
22 Of the people of Simeon, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, those of them that were numbered, according to the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war:	22 Pour les fils de Siméon, on releva leur parenté par clan et par famille, les noms un par un de tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
23 the number of the tribe of Simeon was fifty-nine thousand three hundred.	23 Pour la tribu de Siméon, on en recensa 59 300.
24 Of the people of Gad, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war:	24 Pour les fils de Gad, on releva leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
25 the number of the tribe of Gad was forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.	25 Pour la tribu de Gad, on en recensa 45 650.
26 Of the people of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war:	26 Pour les fils de Juda, on releva leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
27 the number of the tribe of Judah was seventy-four thousand six hundred.	27 Pour la tribu de Juda, on en recensa 74 600.
28 Of the people of Issachar, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war:	28 Pour les fils d’Issacar, on releva leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
29 the number of the tribe of Issachar was fifty-four thousand four hundred.	29 Pour la tribu d’Issacar, on en recensa 54 400.
30 Of the people of Zebulun, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war:	30 Pour les fils de Zabulon, on releva leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
31 the number of the tribe of Zebulun was fifty-seven thousand four hundred.	31 Pour la tribu de Zabulon, on en recensa 57 400.
32 Of the people of Joseph, namely, of the people of Ephraim, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war:	32 Quant aux fils de Joseph, on releva pour les fils d’Éphraïm, leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
33 the number of the tribe of Ephraim was forty thousand five hundred.	33 Pour la tribu d’Éphraïm, on en recensa 40 500.
34 Of the people of Manasseh, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war:	34 On releva pour les fils de Manassé, leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
35 the number of the tribe of Manasseh was thirty-two thousand two hundred.	35 Pour la tribu de Manassé, on en recensa 32 200.
36 Of the people of Benjamin, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war:	36 Pour les fils de Benjamin, on releva leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
37 the number of the tribe of Benjamin was thirty-five thousand four hundred.	37 Pour la tribu de Benjamin, on en recensa 35 400.
38 Of the people of Dan, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war:	38 Pour les fils de Dan, on releva leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
39 the number of the tribe of Dan was sixty-two thousand seven hundred.	39 Pour la tribu de Dan, on en recensa 62 700.
40 Of the people of Asher, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war:	40 Pour les fils d’Asher, on releva leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
41 the number of the tribe of Asher was forty-one thousand five hundred.	41 Pour la tribu d’Asher, on en recensa 41 500.
42 Of the people of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war:	42 Pour les fils de Nephtali, on releva leur parenté par clan et par famille, et on compta un par un tous les hommes de 20 ans et plus capables de porter les armes.
43 the number of the tribe of Naphtali was fifty-three thousand four hundred.	43 Pour la tribu de Nephtali, on en recensa 53 400.
44 These are those who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered with the help of the leaders of Israel, twelve men, each representing his fathers' house.	44 Voilà ceux qui furent recensés, ceux que Moïse et Aaron recensèrent avec les chefs d’Israël, choisis au nombre de douze, un par tribu.
45 So the whole number of the people of Israel, by their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go forth to war in Israel--	45 On fit le total de ceux qui avaient été recensés parmi les Israélites de 20 ans et plus, selon leur tribu, de tous ceux qui étaient capables de porter les armes en Israël.
46 their whole number was six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.	46 Ce total fut de 603 550 hommes.
47 But the Levites were not numbered by their ancestral tribe along with them.	47 Les Lévites ne furent pas recensés avec eux,
48 For the LORD said to Moses,	48 car Yahvé avait dit à Moïse:
49 "Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, and you shall not take a census of them among the people of Israel;	49 “Tu ne recenseras pas la tribu de Lévi, tu ne la compteras pas avec les autres Israélites,
50 but appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it; they are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings, and they shall tend it, and shall encamp around the tabernacle.	50 mais tu confieras aux Lévites la Demeure du Témoignage, avec tous ses objets, tout ce qui lui appartient. Ils porteront la Demeure et tous ses objets, ils en assureront le service et camperont autour de la Demeure.
51 When the tabernacle is to set out, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up. And if any one else comes near, he shall be put to death.	51 Quand la Demeure partira, les Lévites la démonteront, et quand la Demeure s’arrêtera, les Lévites la dresseront, mais aucun profane ne s’en approchera sous peine de mort.
52 The people of Israel shall pitch their tents by their companies, every man by his own camp and every man by his own standard;	52 Les Israélites camperont chacun dans son camp, chacun autour de sa bannière selon sa formation de combat,
53 but the Levites shall encamp around the tabernacle of the testimony, that there may be no wrath upon the congregation of the people of Israel; and the Levites shall keep charge of the tabernacle of the testimony."	53 mais les Lévites camperont autour de la Demeure du Témoignage pour que la colère de Dieu ne s’abatte pas sur la communauté des Israélites. Les Lévites auront la garde de la Demeure du Témoignage.”
54 Thus did the people of Israel; they did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses.	54 Les Israélites firent donc tout ce que Yahvé avait ordonné à Moïse: c’est ainsi qu’ils agirent.
