Amos 3

1 Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt:	1 Ascoltate questa parola che ha proferito Jahvè contro di voi, figli di Israele; contro tutta la nazione che ho fatto uscire dalla terra d’Egitto.
2 "You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.	2 «Soltanto voi ho conosciuto fra tutte le famiglie della terra; perciò punirò su di voi tutte le vostre colpe.
3 "Do two walk together, unless they have made an appointment?	3 Si va forse in due insieme senza essersi accordati?
4 Does a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out from his den, if he has taken nothing?	4 Rugge forse il leone nella foresta senza che abbia una preda? Fa udire il leoncello la voce se non ha preso nulla?
5 Does a bird fall in a snare on the earth, when there is no trap for it? Does a snare spring up from the ground, when it has taken nothing?	5 Si slancia forse l’uccello sulla terra se non c’è un’esca per lui? Scatta forse il laccio dal suolo se non ha preso qualche cosa?
6 Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does evil befall a city, unless the LORD has done it?	6 O squilla la tromba in città senza che il popolo sia atterrito? O succede una sciagura in città senza che Jahvè sia all’opera?
7 Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.	7 No, non suol fare il Signore Jahvè cosa alcuna senza comunicare la deliberazione ai suoi servitori, i profeti.
8 The lion has roared; who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken; who can but prophesy?"	8 Il leone rugge: chi non avrebbe paura? Il Signore Jahvè parla: chi non profetizzerebbe?
9 Proclaim to the strongholds in Assyria, and to the strongholds in the land of Egypt, and say, "Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and see the great tumults within her, and the oppressions in her midst."	9 Proclamate sui palazzi di Ashdod e sui palazzi nella terra d’Egitto, dite: “Adunatevi sul monte di Samaria” e guardate quanto grandi confusioni in mezzo a essa e prepotenze dentro di lei!
10 "They do not know how to do right," says the LORD, "those who store up violence and robbery in their strongholds."	10 Non sanno operare con rettitudine — oracolo di Jahvè — coloro che accumulano la delinquenza nei loro palazzi!»
11 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "An adversary shall surround the land, and bring down your defenses from you, and your strongholds shall be plundered."	11 Perciò così dice il Signore Jahvè: «Il nemico circonda il paese, ti abbatte la tua forza e sono saccheggiati i tuoi palazzi».
12 Thus says the LORD: "As the shepherd rescues from the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, so shall the people of Israel who dwell in Samaria be rescued, with the corner of a couch and part of a bed."	12 Così dice Jahvè: «Come riesce a salvare un pastore dalla bocca di un leone due zampe o il lobo di un orecchio, così saranno salvati i figli di Israele che abitano a Samaria su un cantuccio di sofà o su un... di divano.
13 "Hear, and testify against the house of Jacob," says the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,	13 Ascoltate e datelo per certo contro la casa di Giacobbe». Oracolo del Signore Jahvè, Dio degli eserciti.
14 "that on the day I punish Israel for his transgressions, I will punish the altars of Bethel, and the horns of the altar shall be cut off and fall to the ground.	14 «Poiché nel giorno in cui punirò le prevaricazioni a carico d’Israele punirò altari di Bethel: saranno spezzati i corni dell’altare e cadranno a terra.
15 I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall come to an end," says the LORD.	15 Abbatterò la casa invernale con la casa estiva e periranno le case d’avorio e finiranno le case grandi». Oracolo di Jahvè.
