Hosea 10

1 Israel is a luxuriant vine that yields its fruit. The more his fruit increased the more altars he built; as his country improved he improved his pillars.	1 Israele era una vigna rigogliosa che faceva frutto; quanto più abbondante era il suo frutto tanto più numerosi altari faceva; quanto più andava bene per la sua terra tanto più belle si faceva le stele.
2 Their heart is false; now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will break down their altars, and destroy their pillars.	2 Il loro cuore è pieno di lusinghe; ora ne resteranno confusi. Egli stesso spezzerà la testa ai loro altari, fracasserà le loro stele.
3 For now they will say: "We have no king, for we fear not the LORD, and a king, what could he do for us?"	3 Eh, già! Ora dicono: «Siamo senza re, perché non abbiamo avuto timor di Jahvè: ma il re che cosa può farci?»
4 They utter mere words; with empty oaths they make covenants; so judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.	4 Fanno ciance, pronunciano giuramenti falsi, stringono accordi: il diritto fiorisce come il tossico sui solchi della campagna.
5 The inhabitants of Samaria tremble for the calf of Beth-aven. Its people shall mourn for it, and its idolatrous priests shall wail over it, over its glory which has departed from it.	5 Sono in angoscia per il vitello di Bet-Aven gli abitanti di Samaria: sì, è afflitta per lui la sua clientela e i suoi prostituti sacri per lui; urlano per la sua magnificenza, perché emigra lontano da lui!
6 Yea, the thing itself shall be carried to Assyria, as tribute to the great king. Ephraim shall be put to shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his idol.	6 Esso stesso sarà trascinato in Assiria come donativo al re di Jareb. Efraim ne riporterà confusione e Israele resterà umiliato del suo proposito.
7 Samaria's king shall perish, like a chip on the face of the waters.	7 Samaria è distrutta e il suo re è come un fuscello sulla superficie dell’acqua.
8 The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed. Thorn and thistle shall grow up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us, and to the hills, Fall upon us.	8 Saranno distrutti gli altari della falsità, il peccato di Israele: spine e triboli cresceranno sui loro altari. Allora diranno ai monti: «Copriteci!» e alle colline: «Cadeteci addosso!»
9 From the days of Gibe-ah, you have sinned, O Israel; there they have continued. Shall not war overtake them in Gibe-ah?	9 Dai giorni di Gabaa peccò Israele. Là uscirono in battaglia contro i figli dell’iniquità.
10 I will come against the wayward people to chastise them; and nations shall be gathered against them when they are chastised for their double iniquity.	10 Verrò a punirli, li raggiungerò come a Gabaa: si raduneranno contro di loro i popoli, quando verranno puniti per la loro duplice colpa.
11 Ephraim was a trained heifer that loved to thresh, and I spared her fair neck; but I will put Ephraim to the yoke, Judah must plow, Jacob must harrow for himself.	11 Efraim è una giovenca addomesticata che si adatta a trebbiare. Ma io farò passare il giogo sul suo bel collo, metterò i finimenti a Efraim: egli arerà e Giacobbe erpicherà.
12 Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and rain salvation upon you.	12 Seminatevi la giustizia, mietete frutti d’amore. Anzi, dissodatevi un campo novale, quello di conoscere Jahvè, finché venga e insegni a voi la giustizia.
13 You have plowed iniquity, you have reaped injustice, you have eaten the fruit of lies. Because you have trusted in your chariots and in the multitude of your warriors,	13 Avete coltivato l’empietà, avete mietuto iniquità, avete mangiato frutto fallace. Poiché hai avuto fiducia nei tuoi carri di guerra, nella moltitudine dei tuoi prodi,
14 therefore the tumult of war shall arise among your people, and all your fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle; mothers were dashed in pieces with their children.	14 si leverà il fragore contro la tua gente, tutte le tue fortificazioni saranno distrutte, come Shalman distrusse Bet-Arbel nei giorni della guerra, quando la madre fu sfracellata e i figli insieme.
15 Thus it shall be done to you, O house of Israel, because of your great wickedness. In the storm the king of Israel shall be utterly cut off.	15 Così agirò io con voi, casa di Israele, a a causa della vostra spaventosa malvagità. Come l’aurora, sparirà senza traccia il re di Israele.
