Jeremiah 47

1 The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh smote Gaza.	1 La parola di Jahvè che fu rivolta al profeta Geremia sui Filistei, prima che il Faraone avesse occupato Gaza.
2 "Thus says the LORD: Behold, waters are rising out of the north, and shall become an overflowing torrent; they shall overflow the land and all that fills it, the city and those who dwell in it. Men shall cry out, and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.	2 Così dice Jahvè: «Ecco, le acque salgono dal nord e diventano un torrente che allaga. Allagano la terra e quanto è in essa, la città e i suoi abitanti. Gli uomini gridano, si lamentano tutti gli abitanti della terra.
3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels, the fathers look not back to their children, so feeble are their hands,	3 Al rumore dello scalpitar dei suoi potenti destrieri, al fragor dei suoi carri, al cigolio delle sue ruote, i padri non si voltano verso i figli per la fiacchezza delle loro mani;
4 because of the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remains. For the LORD is destroying the Philistines, the remnant of the coastland of Caphtor.	4 perché è arrivato il giorno di devastare tutti i Filistei, di distruggere per Tiro e Sidone quanti restano ad aiutarle; Jahvè, infatti, distrugge i Filistei, il resto dell’isola di Chaftor.
5 Baldness has come upon Gaza, Ashkelon has perished. O remnant of the Anakim, how long will you gash yourselves?	5 La calvizie è sopraggiunta a Gaza, è distrutta Ascalon. Ashdod, resto degli Anakim, fino a quando ti farai incisioni?
6 Ah, sword of the LORD! How long till you are quiet? Put yourself into your scabbard, rest and be still!	6 O spada di Jahvè, fino a quando non riposerai? Rientra nel tuo fodero, fermati e rimani tranquilla.
7 How can it be quiet, when the LORD has given it a charge? Against Ashkelon and against the seashore he has appointed it."	7 Come riposerebbe, quando Jahvè la comanda? Ascalon e il lido del mare, là le ha assegnato il suo compito».
