Sirach 9

1 Do not be jealous of the wife of your bosom, and do not teach her an evil lesson to your own hurt.	1 Non essere geloso della sposa amata, per non inculcarle malizia a tuo danno.
2 Do not give yourself to a woman so that she gains mastery over your strength.	2 Non dare l'anima tua alla tua donna, sì che essa s'imponga sulla tua forza.
3 Do not go to meet a loose woman, lest you fall into her snares.	3 Non incontrarti con una donna cortigiana, che non abbia a cadere nei suoi lacci.
4 Do not associate with a woman singer, lest you be caught in her intrigues.	4 Non frequentare una cantante, per non esser preso dalle sue moine.
5 Do not look intently at a virgin, lest you stumble and incur penalties for her.	5 Non fissare il tuo sguardo su una vergine, per non essere coinvolto nei suoi castighi.
6 Do not give yourself to harlots lest you lose your inheritance.	6 Non dare l'anima tua alle prostitute, per non perderci il patrimonio.
7 Do not look around in the streets of a city, nor wander about in its deserted sections.	7 Non curiosare nelle vie della città, non aggirarti nei suoi luoghi solitari.
8 Turn away your eyes from a shapely woman, and do not look intently at beauty belonging to another; many have been misled by a woman's beauty, and by it passion is kindled like a fire.	8 Distogli l'occhio da una donna bella, non fissare una bellezza che non ti appartiene. Per la bellezza di una donna molti sono periti; per essa l'amore brucia come fuoco.
9 Never dine with another man's wife, nor revel with her at wine; lest your heart turn aside to her, and in blood you be plunged into destruction.	9 Non sederti mai accanto a una donna sposata, non frequentarla per bere insieme con lei perché il tuo cuore non si innamori di lei e per la tua passione tu non scivoli nella rovina.
10 Forsake not an old friend, for a new one does not compare with him. A new friend is like new wine; when it has aged you will drink it with pleasure.	10 Non abbandonare un vecchio amico, perché quello recente non è uguale a lui. Vino nuovo, amico nuovo; quando sarà invecchiato, lo berrai con piacere.
11 Do not envy the honors of a sinner, for you do not know what his end will be.	11 Non invidiare la gloria del peccatore, perché non sai quale sarà la sua fine.
12 Do not delight in what pleases the ungodly; remember that they will not be held guiltless as long as they live.	12 Non compiacerti del benessere degli empi, ricòrdati che non giungeranno agli inferi impuniti.
13 Keep far from a man who has the power to kill, and you will not be worried by the fear of death. But if you approach him, make no misstep, lest he rob you of your life. Know that you are walking in the midst of snares, and that you are going about on the city battlements.	13 Tieniti lontano dall'uomo che ha il potere di uccidere e non sperimenterai il timore della morte. Se l'avvicini, sta' attento a non sbagliare perché egli non ti tolga la vita; sappi che cammini in mezzo ai lacci e ti muovi sull'orlo delle mura cittadine.
14 As much as you can, aim to know your neighbors, and consult with the wise.	14 Rispondi come puoi al prossimo e consìgliati con i saggi.
15 Let your conversation be with men of understanding, and let all your discussion be about the law of the Most High.	15 Conversa con uomini assennati e ogni tuo colloquio sia sulle leggi dell'Altissimo.
16 Let righteous men be your dinner companions, and let your glorying be in the fear of the Lord.	16 Tuoi commensali siano gli uomini giusti, il tuo vanto sia nel timore del Signore.
17 A work will be praised for the skill of the craftsmen; so a people's leader is proved wise by his words.	17 Un lavoro per mano di esperti viene lodato, ma il capo del popolo è saggio per il parlare.
18 A babbler is feared in his city, and the man who is reckless in speech will be hated.	18 Un uomo linguacciuto è il terrore della sua città, chi non sa controllar le parole sarà detestato.
