Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition LXX
Do not be jealous of the wife of your bosom, and do not teach her an evil lesson to your own hurt.1 μη ζηλου γυναικα του κολπου σου μηδε διδαξης επι σεαυτον παιδειαν πονηραν
Do not give yourself to a woman so that she gains mastery over your strength.2 μη δως γυναικι την ψυχην σου επιβηναι αυτην επι την ισχυν σου
Do not go to meet a loose woman, lest you fall into her snares.3 μη υπαντα γυναικι εταιριζομενη μηποτε εμπεσης εις τας παγιδας αυτης
Do not associate with a woman singer, lest you be caught in her intrigues.4 μετα ψαλλουσης μη ενδελεχιζε μηποτε αλως εν τοις επιχειρημασιν αυτης
Do not look intently at a virgin, lest you stumble and incur penalties for her.5 παρθενον μη καταμανθανε μηποτε σκανδαλισθης εν τοις επιτιμιοις αυτης
Do not give yourself to harlots lest you lose your inheritance.6 μη δως πορναις την ψυχην σου ινα μη απολεσης την κληρονομιαν σου
Do not look around in the streets of a city, nor wander about in its deserted sections.7 μη περιβλεπου εν ρυμαις πολεως και εν ταις ερημοις αυτης μη πλανω
Turn away your eyes from a shapely woman, and do not look intently at beauty belonging to another; many have been misled by a woman's beauty, and by it passion is kindled like a fire.8 αποστρεψον οφθαλμον απο γυναικος ευμορφου και μη καταμανθανε καλλος αλλοτριον εν καλλει γυναικος πολλοι επλανηθησαν και εκ τουτου φιλια ως πυρ ανακαιεται
Never dine with another man's wife, nor revel with her at wine; lest your heart turn aside to her, and in blood you be plunged into destruction.9 μετα υπανδρου γυναικος μη καθου το συνολον και μη συμβολοκοπησης μετ' αυτης εν οινω μηποτε εκκλινη η ψυχη σου επ' αυτην και τω πνευματι σου ολισθης εις απωλειαν
Forsake not an old friend, for a new one does not compare with him. A new friend is like new wine; when it has aged you will drink it with pleasure.10 μη εγκαταλιπης φιλον αρχαιον ο γαρ προσφατος ουκ εστιν εφισος αυτω οινος νεος φιλος νεος εαν παλαιωθη μετ' ευφροσυνης πιεσαι αυτον
Do not envy the honors of a sinner, for you do not know what his end will be.11 μη ζηλωσης δοξαν αμαρτωλου ου γαρ οιδας τι εσται η καταστροφη αυτου
Do not delight in what pleases the ungodly; remember that they will not be held guiltless as long as they live.12 μη ευδοκησης εν ευδοκια ασεβων μνησθητι οτι εως αδου ου μη δικαιωθωσιν
Keep far from a man who has the power to kill, and you will not be worried by the fear of death. But if you approach him, make no misstep, lest he rob you of your life. Know that you are walking in the midst of snares, and that you are going about on the city battlements.13 μακραν απεχε απο ανθρωπου ος εχει εξουσιαν του φονευειν και ου μη υποπτευσης φοβον θανατου καν προσελθης μη πλημμελησης ινα μη αφεληται την ζωην σου επιγνωθι οτι εν μεσω παγιδων διαβαινεις και επι επαλξεων πολεως περιπατεις
As much as you can, aim to know your neighbors, and consult with the wise.14 κατα την ισχυν σου στοχασαι τους πλησιον και μετα σοφων συμβουλευου
Let your conversation be with men of understanding, and let all your discussion be about the law of the Most High.15 μετα συνετων εστω ο διαλογισμος σου και πασα διηγησις σου εν νομω υψιστου
Let righteous men be your dinner companions, and let your glorying be in the fear of the Lord.16 ανδρες δικαιοι εστωσαν συνδειπνοι σου και εν φοβω κυριου εστω το καυχημα σου
A work will be praised for the skill of the craftsmen; so a people's leader is proved wise by his words.17 εν χειρι τεχνιτων εργον επαινεσθησεται και ο ηγουμενος λαου σοφος εν λογω αυτου
A babbler is feared in his city, and the man who is reckless in speech will be hated.18 φοβερος εν πολει αυτου ανηρ γλωσσωδης και ο προπετης εν λογω αυτου μισηθησεται
