Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition LA SACRA BIBBIA
From his descendants the Lord brought forth a man of mercy, who found favor in the sight of all flesh and was beloved by God and man, Moses, whose memory is blessed.1 Fece sorgere da lui un uomo fedele che trovò l'ammirazione di tutti i viventi, amato da Dio e dagli uomini, Mosè, la cui memoria è benedetta.
He made him equal in glory to the holy ones, and made him great in the fears of his enemies.2 Gli ha dato una gloria pari ai santi e il potere di spaventare i nemici.
By his words he caused signs to cease; the Lord glorified him in the presence of kings. He gave him commands for his people, and showed him part of his glory.3 Con la sua parola faceva cessare i prodigi; il Signore l'ha glorificato dinanzi ai re, gli ha dato i comandamenti per il suo popolo, gli ha fatto vedere la sua gloria.
He sanctified him through faithfulness and meekness; he chose him out of all mankind.4 Per la sua fede e umiltà l'ha consacrato, scegliendolo fra tutta l'umanità.
He made him hear his voice, and led him into the thick darkness, and gave him the commandments face to face, the law of life and knowledge, to teach Jacob the covenant, and Israel his judgments.5 Gli fece sentire la sua voce, l'ha fatto entrare nella nube oscura, gli ha dato di presenza i comandamenti, una legge di vita e di intelligenza, perché insegnasse a Giacobbe l'alleanza e i suoi giudizi ad Israele.
He exalted Aaron, the brother of Moses, a holy man like him, of the tribe of Levi.6 Innalzò Aronne, uomo santo come lui, suo fratello, della tribù di Levi.
He made an everlasting covenant with him, and gave him the priesthood of the people. He blessed him with splendid vestments, and put a glorious robe upon him.7 L'ha stabilito quale alleanza perpetua e gli ha dato il sacerdozio del popolo. L'ha onorato con splendidi ornamenti e l'ha ricoperto con veste di gloria.
He clothed him with superb perfection, and strengthened him with the symbols of authority, the linen breeches, the long robe, and the ephod.8 L'ha fregiato col massimo degli onori e l'ha incoronato con le insegne del potere: calzoni, tunica e manto.
And he encircled him with pomegranates, with very many golden bells round about, to send forth a sound as he walked, to make their ringing heard in the temple as a reminder to the sons of his people;9 Gli fece orlare la veste con melagrane e porre intorno tanti campanelli d'oro che risuonassero alla cadenza dei suoi passi, perché il tintinnìo sentito nel tempio fosse un richiamo per i figli del suo popolo.
with a holy garment, of gold and blue and purple, the work of an embroiderer; with the oracle of judgment, Urim and Thummim;10 Gli fece indossare la veste santa, lavorata dal ricamatore con oro, giacinto e porpora; il pettorale del giudizio e l'oracolo della verità, scarlatto filato, opera di artista,
with twisted scarlet, the work of a craftsman; with precious stones engraved like signets, in a setting of gold, the work of a jeweler, for a reminder, in engraved letters, according to the number of the tribes of Israel;11 con pietre preziose, incise come sigilli, incastonate sull'oro, opera di un intagliatore, perché ricordassero con la scrittura incisa il numero delle tribù d'Israele.
with a gold crown upon his turban, inscribed like a signet with "Holiness," a distinction to be prized, the work of an expert, the delight of the eyes, richly adorned.12 Sopra il turbante gli pose una corona d'oro con l'impronta del sigillo della consacrazione, insegna d'onore, opera magnifica, fatta bella per il godimento degli occhi.
Before his time there never were such beautiful things. No outsider ever put them on, but only his sons and his descendants perpetually.13 Cose tanto belle non ci furono prima di lui, né mai un estraneo potrà indossarle, al di fuori dei soli suoi figli e dei suoi discendenti, per sempre.
His sacrifices shall be wholly burned twice every day continually.14 I suoi sacrifici sono offerti in olocausto, ogni giorno per due volte, senza fine.
Moses ordained him, and anointed him with holy oil; it was an everlasting covenant for him and for his descendants all the days of heaven, to minister to the Lord and serve as priest and bless his people in his name.15 Mosè riempì le sue mani e lo unse con olio santo; ciò costituì per lui un'alleanza perpetua, e anche per i suoi discendenti finché dura il cielo: perché lo servissero e facessero i sacerdoti, e nel nome del Signore benedicessero il popolo.
He chose him out of all the living to offer sacrifice to the Lord, incense and a pleasing odor as a memorial portion, to make atonement for the people.16 L'ha scelto fra tutti i viventi per offrire primizie al Signore, il memoriale fragrante dell'incenso, perché espiasse a favore del popolo.
In his commandments he gave him authority and statutes and judgments, to teach Jacob the testimonies, and to enlighten Israel with his law.17 Gli ha affidato i suoi comandamenti con l'autorità di emettere sentenze, per insegnare a Giacobbe le sue testimonianze e illuminare Israele nella sua legge.
Outsiders conspired against him, and envied him in the wilderness, Dathan and Abiram and their men and the company of Korah, in wrath and anger.18 Degli estranei hanno cospirato contro di lui, nel deserto si sono ingelositi di lui quelli che erano con Datan e Abiron e il gruppo di Core, tutti presi dall'ira.
The Lord saw it and was not pleased, and in the wrath of his anger they were destroyed; he wrought wonders against them to consume them in flaming fire.19 Il Signore vide e ne fu indignato, furono distrutti nell'impeto della sua ira, fece pure portenti contro di loro per consumarli nel fuoco della sua fiamma.
He added glory to Aaron and gave him a heritage; he allotted to him the first of the first fruits, he prepared bread of first fruits in abundance;20 Poi aggiunse gloria ad Aronne, dandogli un vero patrimonio: gli assegnò le primizie dei frutti, gli assicurò soprattutto pane in abbondanza.
for they eat the sacrifices to the Lord, which he gave to him and his descendants.21 Perciò mangiano con i sacrifici del Signore, che egli ha dato a lui e alla sua discendenza.
But in the land of the people he has no inheritance, and he has no portion among the people; for the Lord himself is his portion and inheritance.22 Egli solo non ha avuto eredità nella terra del popolo, non gli è toccata una porzione tra di loro, perché il Signore è la sua porzione ed eredità.
Phinehas the son of Eleazar is the third in glory, for he was zealous in the fear of the Lord, and stood fast, when the people turned away, in the ready goodness of his soul, and made atonement for Israel.23 Finees, figlio di Eleazaro, merita il terzo posto nella gloria, perché fu zelante nel timore del Signore e ha dimostrato, nella rivolta del popolo, la bontà e il coraggio del suo animo; così poté espiare a favore d'Israele.
Therefore a covenant of peace was established with him, that he should be leader of the sanctuary and of his people, that he and his descendants should have the dignity of the priesthood for ever.24 Perciò fu stabilita con lui un'alleanza di pace, perché fosse lui a guidare i santi e il suo popolo; così restava con lui e con la sua discendenza il sommo sacerdozio nei secoli.
A covenant was also established with David, the son of Jesse, of the tribe of Judah: the heritage of the king is from son to son only; so the heritage of Aaron is for his descendants.25 Per l'alleanza fatta con Davide, figlio di Iesse, della tribù di Giuda, il regno passava dal padre a un solo figlio; ma l'eredità d'Aronne passa a tutta la discendenza.
May the Lord grant you wisdom in your heart to judge his people in righteousness, so that their prosperity may not vanish, and that their glory may endure throughout their generations.26 Il Signore vi conceda la sapienza del cuore per giudicare il suo popolo con giustizia, perché non svanisca la prosperità dei padri e la loro gloria duri nelle generazioni.
