Proverbs 3

1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments;	1 Mon fils, n'oublie pas mon enseignement, et que ton coeur garde mes préceptes,
2 for length of days and years of life and abundant welfare will they give you.	2 car ils augmenteront la durée de tes jours, tes années de vie et ton bien-être.
3 Let not loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them about your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.	3 Que piété et fidélité ne te quittent! Fixe-les à ton cou, inscris-les sur la tablette de ton coeur.
4 So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and man.	4 Tu trouveras ainsi faveur et réussite aux regards de Dieu et des hommes.
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.	5 Repose-toi sur Yahvé de tout ton coeur, ne t'appuie pas sur ton propre entendement;
6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.	6 en toutes tes démarches, reconnais-le et il aplanira tes sentiers.
7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.	7 Ne te figure pas être sage, crains Yahvé et te détourne du mal:
8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.	8 cela sera salutaire à ton corps et rafraîchissant pour tes os.
9 Honor the LORD with your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce;	9 Honore Yahvé de tes biens et des prémices de tout ton revenu;
10 then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.	10 alors tes greniers regorgeront de blé et tes cuves déborderont de vin nouveau.
11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof,	11 Ne méprise pas, mon fils, la correction de Yahvé, et ne prends pas mal sa réprimande,
12 for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.	12 car Yahvé reprend celui qu'il aime, comme un père le fils qu'il chérit.
13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gets understanding,	13 Heureux l'homme qui a trouvé la sagesse, l'homme qui acquiert l'intelligence!
14 for the gain from it is better than gain from silver and its profit better than gold.	14 Car mieux vaut la gagner que gagner de l'argent, son revenu vaut mieux que de l'or.
15 She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her.	15 Elle est précieuse plus que les perles, rien de ce que tu désires ne l'égale.
16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.	16 Dans sa droite: longueur des jours! Dans sa gauche: richesse et honneur!
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.	17 Ses chemins sont chemins de délices, tous ses sentiers, de bonheur.
18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called happy.	18 C'est un arbre de vie pour qui la saisit, et qui la tient devient heureux.
19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens;	19 Yahvé, par la sagesse, a fondé la terre, il a établi les cieux par l'intelligence.
20 by his knowledge the deeps broke forth, and the clouds drop down the dew.	20 Par sa science furent creusés les abîmes, et les nues distillent la rosée.
21 My son, keep sound wisdom and discretion; let them not escape from your sight,	21 Mon fils, sans les quitter des yeux, observe le conseil et la prudence;
22 and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.	22 ils seront vie pour ton âme et grâce pour ton cou.
23 Then you will walk on your way securely and your foot will not stumble.	23 Tu iras ton chemin en sécurité, ton pied n'achoppera pas.
24 If you sit down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.	24 Si tu te couches, tu seras sans frayeur, une fois couché, ton sommeil sera doux.
25 Do not be afraid of sudden panic, or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes;	25 Ne redoute ni terreur soudaine ni attaque qui vienne des méchants,
26 for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.	26 car Yahvé sera ton assurance, il préservera tes pas du piège.
27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.	27 Ne refuse pas un bienfait à qui y a droit quand il est en ton pouvoir de le faire.
28 Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it"--when you have it with you.	28 Ne dis pas à ton prochain: "Va-t'en! repasse! demain je te donnerai!" quand la chose est en tonpouvoir.
29 Do not plan evil against your neighbor who dwells trustingly beside you.	29 Ne machine pas le mal contre ton prochain, alors qu'il demeure en confiance avec toi.
30 Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm.	30 Ne te querelle pas sans motif avec un homme, s'il ne t'a fait aucun mal.
31 Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways;	31 N'envie pas l'homme violent, ne choisis jamais ses chemins,
32 for the perverse man is an abomination to the LORD, but the upright are in his confidence.	32 car les pervers sont l'abomination de Yahvé, lui qui fait des hommes droits ses familiers.
33 The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the abode of the righteous.	33 Malédiction de Yahvé sur la maison du méchant! mais il bénit la demeure des justes.
34 Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he shows favor.	34 Il raille les railleurs, mais aux pauvres il donne sa faveur.
35 The wise will inherit honor, but fools get disgrace.	35 La gloire est la part des sages, mais les sots héritent le mépris.
