Proverbs 21

1 The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.	1 Il cuore del re è un corso d’acqua in mano al Signore: lo dirige dovunque egli vuole.
2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart.	2 Agli occhi dell’uomo ogni sua via sembra diritta, ma chi scruta i cuori è il Signore.
3 To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.	3 Praticare la giustizia e l’equità per il Signore vale più di un sacrificio.
4 Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin.	4 Occhi alteri e cuore superbo, lucerna dei malvagi è il peccato.
5 The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but every one who is hasty comes only to want.	5 I progetti di chi è diligente si risolvono in profitto, ma chi ha troppa fretta va verso l’indigenza.
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor and a snare of death.	6 Accumulare tesori a forza di menzogne è futilità effimera di chi cerca la morte.
7 The violence of the wicked will sweep them away, because they refuse to do what is just.	7 La violenza dei malvagi li travolge, perché rifiutano di praticare la giustizia.
8 The way of the guilty is crooked, but the conduct of the pure is right.	8 La via di un uomo colpevole è tortuosa, ma l’innocente è retto nel suo agire.
9 It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a contentious woman.	9 È meglio abitare su un angolo del tetto che avere casa in comune con una moglie litigiosa.
10 The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.	10 L’anima del malvagio desidera fare il male, ai suoi occhi il prossimo non trova pietà.
11 When a scoffer is punished, the simple becomes wise; when a wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.	11 Quando lo spavaldo viene punito, l’inesperto diventa saggio; egli acquista scienza quando il saggio viene istruito.
12 The righteous observes the house of the wicked; the wicked are cast down to ruin.	12 Il giusto osserva la casa del malvagio e precipita i malvagi nella sventura.
13 He who closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself cry out and not be heard.	13 Chi chiude l’orecchio al grido del povero invocherà a sua volta e non otterrà risposta.
14 A gift in secret averts anger; and a bribe in the bosom, strong wrath.	14 Un dono fatto in segreto calma la collera, un regalo di nascosto placa il furore violento.
15 When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous, but dismay to evildoers.	15 È una gioia per il giusto quando è fatta giustizia, mentre è un terrore per i malfattori.
16 A man who wanders from the way of understanding will rest in the assembly of the dead.	16 L’uomo che si scosta dalla via della saggezza, riposerà nell’assemblea delle ombre dei morti.
17 He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.	17 Diventerà indigente chi ama i piaceri, chi ama vino e profumi non si arricchirà.
18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous, and the faithless for the upright.	18 Il malvagio serve da riscatto per il giusto e il perfido per gli uomini retti.
19 It is better to live in a desert land than with a contentious and fretful woman.	19 Meglio abitare in un deserto che con una moglie litigiosa e irritabile.
20 Precious treasure remains in a wise man's dwelling, but a foolish man devours it.	20 Tesori preziosi e profumi sono nella dimora del saggio, ma l’uomo stolto dilapida tutto.
21 He who pursues righteousness and kindness will find life and honor.	21 Chi ricerca la giustizia e l’amore troverà vita e gloria.
22 A wise man scales the city of the mighty and brings down the stronghold in which they trust.	22 Il saggio assale una città di guerrieri e abbatte la fortezza in cui essa confidava.
23 He who keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.	23 Chi custodisce la bocca e la lingua preserva se stesso dalle afflizioni.
24 "Scoffer" is the name of the proud, haughty man who acts with arrogant pride.	24 Il superbo arrogante si chiama spavaldo, egli agisce nell’eccesso dell’insolenza.
25 The desire of the sluggard kills him for his hands refuse to labor.	25 Il desiderio del pigro lo porta alla morte, perché le sue mani rifiutano di lavorare.
26 All day long the wicked covets, but the righteous gives and does not hold back.	26 L’empio indulge tutto il giorno alla cupidigia, mentre il giusto dona senza risparmiare.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it with evil intent.	27 Il sacrificio dei malvagi è un orrore, tanto più se offerto con cattiva intenzione.
28 A false witness will perish, but the word of a man who hears will endure.	28 Il falso testimone perirà, ma chi ascolta potrà parlare sempre.
29 A wicked man puts on a bold face, but an upright man considers his ways.	29 Il malvagio assume un’aria sfrontata, l’uomo retto controlla la propria condotta.
30 No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel, can avail against the LORD.	30 Non c’è sapienza, non c’è prudenza, non c’è consiglio di fronte al Signore.
31 The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the LORD.	31 Il cavallo è pronto per il giorno della battaglia, ma al Signore appartiene la vittoria.
