1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.	1 Il figlio saggio rallegra il padre, ma il figlio stolto rattrista la madre,
2 Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death.	2 Non giovano i tesori male acquistati, ma la giustizia libera dalla morte,
3 The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.	3 Jahvè non fa soffrire la fame al giusto, ma delude le brame degli empi,
4 A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.	4 La mano oziosa fa impoverire, la mano attiva fa arricchire.
5 A son who gathers in summer is prudent, but a son who sleeps in harvest brings shame.	5 Il figlio avveduto raccoglie nell’estate; il figlio infame dorme profondamente durante la messe.
6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.	6 Le benedizioni sul capo del giusto; ma la violenza offusca il volto degli empi.
7 The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.	7 La memoria del giusto è in benedizione, invece il nome degli empi marcisce,
8 The wise of heart will heed commandments, but a prating fool will come to ruin.	8 Chi è saggio di cuore accetta le esortazioni ma chi è stolto di labbra andrà in rovina.
9 He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.	9 Chi cammina con integrità cammina sicuro, ma chi va per vie storte va in malora.
10 He who winks the eye causes trouble, but he who boldly reproves makes peace.	10 Chi strizza l’occhio dà disgusto, chi invece riprende apertamente risana.
11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.	11 È sorgente di vita la bocca del giusto, ma la bocca degli empi nasconde violenza.
12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.	12 L’odio suscita contese, ma l’amore copre tutte le offese.
13 On the lips of him who has understanding wisdom is found, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks sense.	13 Sulle labbra dell’avveduto si trova la sapienza, la verga è per il dorso di chi è privo di senno.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge, but the babbling of a fool brings ruin near.	14 I saggi nascondono la loro scienza, la bocca dello stolto è una rovina che sovrasta.
15 A rich man's wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin.	15 La roba del ricco è la sua città forte, rovina dei poveri è la loro miseria.
16 The wage of the righteous leads to life, the gain of the wicked to sin.	16 Il salario del giusto è fonte di vita, il guadagno dell’empio va nel peccato.
17 He who heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof goes astray.	17 È sulla strada della vita chi accetta la correzione, ma chi disprezza l’ammonimento si smarrisce.
18 He who conceals hatred has lying lips, and he who utters slander is a fool.	18 Le labbra menzognere nascondono l’odio, chi sparge calunnia è uno stolto.
19 When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is prudent.	19 Nelle molte parole non manca il peccato, e chi frena le sue labbra è assennato.
20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the mind of the wicked is of little worth.	20 La lingua del giusto è argento puro, il cuore degli empi non vale nulla.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.	21 Le labbra del giusto nutrono molti, invece gli stolti muoiono per mancanza di senno.
22 The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.	22 La benedizione di Jahvè fa arricchire, la nostra fatica non vi aggiunge nulla.
23 It is like sport to a fool to do wrong, but wise conduct is pleasure to a man of understanding.	23 È uno scherzo per lo stolto commettere l’iniquità come per l’uomo intelligente essere saggio.
24 What the wicked dreads will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.	24 All’empio accadrà ciò che teme, invece il desiderio dei giusti si adempirà.
25 When the tempest passes, the wicked is no more, but the righteous is established for ever.	25 Come passa un turbine così scompare l’empio, ma il giusto ha un fondamento eterno.
26 Like vinegar to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.	26 Come l’aceto ai denti e il fumo agli occhi, così il pigro per chi lo manda.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short.	27 Il timore di Jahvè accresce i giorni, mentre gli anni degli empi saranno accorciati.
28 The hope of the righteous ends in gladness, but the expectation of the wicked comes to nought.	28 L’attesa dei giusti si muta in letizia, ma la speranza dei peccatori svanirà.
29 The LORD is a stronghold to him whose way is upright, but destruction to evildoers.	29 La via di Jahvè è forza all’uomo intemerato, e rovina dei malfattori.
30 The righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land.	30 Il giusto non sarà mai smosso, ma gli empi non dureranno sulla terra.
31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.	31 Sulla bocca del giusto germoglia la sapienza, invece la lingua perversa sarà strappata.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked, what is perverse.	32 Le labbra del giusto conoscono la gentilezza, ma la bocca degli empi la perversità.
