1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.	1 Il saggio figliuolo da consolazione al padre suo: ma il figliuolo stolto è l'afflizione di sua madre.
2 Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death.	2 Non faranno prò i tesori raccolti dall'empietà; ma la giustizia libera dalla morte.
3 The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.	3 Il Signore non affliggerà colla fame l'anima del giusto, e sventerà le mire degli empj.
4 A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.	4 La mano oziosa produce la mendicità, la mano attiva accumula ricchezze. Chi fa capitale delle menzogne si ciba de' venti, ed egli pure va dietro agli uccelli, che volano.
5 A son who gathers in summer is prudent, but a son who sleeps in harvest brings shame.	5 Chi fa sua raccolta al tempo della messe, è un saggio figliuolo, chi dorme nell'estate, è un figliuolo, che fa vergogna.
6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.	6 La benedizione del Signore posa sulla testa del giusto: ma la faccia degli empj è ricoperta dalla iniquità.
7 The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.	7 Si loda la memoria del giusto; ma la rinomanza degli empj marcirà.
8 The wise of heart will heed commandments, but a prating fool will come to ruin.	8 Colui, che è saggio di cuore acetta gli avvertimenti; per lo stolto ogni parola è flagello.
9 He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.	9 Chi cammina con semplicità, con fidanza cammina: chi è storto ne' suoi andamenti sarà discoperto.
10 He who winks the eye causes trouble, but he who boldly reproves makes peace.	10 L'occhio che ammicca, sarà apportator di dolori: e allo stolto faranno piaga le labbra.
11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.	11 Sorgente di vita è la bocca del giusto; ma la bocca degli empj racchiude iniquità
12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.	12 L'odio accende le risse, la carità ricuopre tutti i mancamenti.
13 On the lips of him who has understanding wisdom is found, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks sense.	13 Sulle labbra del saggio trovasi la sapienza; e la verga sul dosso di colui, che manca di buon giudicio.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge, but the babbling of a fool brings ruin near.	14 I saggi nascondono il loro sapere: la bocca dello stolto si caparra rossori.
15 A rich man's wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin.	15 Le facoltà del ricco sono la sua città forte: la miseria de' poveri li fa paurosi.
16 The wage of the righteous leads to life, the gain of the wicked to sin.	16 Il giusto lavora per vivere, guadagni dell'empio sono per lo peccato.
17 He who heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof goes astray.	17 Chi tien conto della disciplina egli è nella via della vita; chi schiva la correzione è fuori di strada.
18 He who conceals hatred has lying lips, and he who utters slander is a fool.	18 Le labbra menzognere nascendone malevolenza: è privo di mente chi svela l'infamia altrui.
19 When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is prudent.	19 Il molto parlare non sarà senza peccato; ma chi sa affrenar le sue labbra ha perfetta prudenza.
20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the mind of the wicked is of little worth.	20 La lingua del giusto è come il più fino argento: ma il cuore degli empj non vai niente.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.	21 Le labbra del giusto istruiscono un gran numero di persone; ma quelli, che non ricevono la istruzione, per inopia di cuore periscono.
22 The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.	22 La benedizione del Signore è apportatrice di ricchezza, e non mena seco afflizione.
23 It is like sport to a fool to do wrong, but wise conduct is pleasure to a man of understanding.	23 L'insensato commette i delitti come per giuoco; ma la sapienza dell'uomo sta nella prudenza.
24 What the wicked dreads will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.	24 Verrà sopra l'empio quel, ch'egli teme: i giusti otterranno quel, che desiderano.
25 When the tempest passes, the wicked is no more, but the righteous is established for ever.	25 Verrà meno l'empio come turbine che passa: ma il giusto è come un fondamento eterno.
26 Like vinegar to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.	26 Quello che è l'aceto pei denti, e il fumo pegli occhi, lo è il pigro per quelli, che lo hanno spedito.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short.	27 Il timor del Signore allunga la vita; gli anni degli empj saranno accorciati.
28 The hope of the righteous ends in gladness, but the expectation of the wicked comes to nought.	28 L'espettazione de' giusti è lieta: ma le speranze degli empj anderanno in fumo.
29 The LORD is a stronghold to him whose way is upright, but destruction to evildoers.	29 La via del Signore fa forte il giusto: quelli, che male operano son paurosi.
30 The righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land.	30 Il giusto non sarà smosso giammai; ma gli empj non avranno abitazione sopra la terra.
31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.	31 La bocca del giusto darà frutti di sapienza: la lingua de' malvaggj anderà in perdizione.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked, what is perverse.	32 Le labbra del giusto ruminano cose gradevoli, e la bocca dell'empio cose perverse.
