Psalms 49

1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. Hear this, all peoples! Give ear, all inhabitants of the world,	1 Ao mestre de canto. Salmo dos filhos de Coré. Escutai, povos todos; atendei, todos vós que habitais a terra,
2 both low and high, rich and poor together!	2 humildes e poderosos, tanto ricos como pobres.
3 My mouth shall speak wisdom; the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.	3 Dirão os meus lábios palavras de sabedoria, e o meu coração meditará pensamentos profundos.
4 I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.	4 Ouvirei, atento, as sentenças inspiradas por Deus; depois, ao som da lira, explicarei meu oráculo.
5 Why should I fear in times of trouble, when the iniquity of my persecutors surrounds me,	5 Por que ter medo nos dias de infortúnio, quando me cerca a malícia dos meus inimigos?
6 men who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?	6 Eles confiam em seus bens, e se vangloriam das grandes riquezas.
7 Truly no man can ransom himself, or give to God the price of his life,	7 Mas nenhum homem a si mesmo pode salvar-se, nem pagar a Deus o seu resgate.
8 for the ransom of his life is costly, and can never suffice,	8 Caríssimo é o preço da sua alma, jamais conseguirá
9 that he should continue to live on for ever, and never see the Pit.	9 prolongar indefinidamente a vida e escapar da morte,
10 Yea, he shall see that even the wise die, the fool and the stupid alike must perish and leave their wealth to others.	10 porque ele verá morrer o sábio, assim como o néscio e o insensato, deixando a outrem os seus bens.
11 Their graves are their homes for ever, their dwelling places to all generations, though they named lands their own.	11 O túmulo será sua eterna morada, sua perpétua habitação, ainda que tenha dado a regiões inteiras o seu nome,
12 Man cannot abide in his pomp, he is like the beasts that perish.	12 pois não permanecerá o homem que vive na opulência: ele é semelhante ao gado que se abate.
13 This is the fate of those who have foolish confidence, the end of those who are pleased with their portion. [Selah]	13 Este é o destino dos que estultamente em si confiam, tal é o fim dos que só vivem em delícias.
14 Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; straight to the grave they descend, and their form shall waste away; Sheol shall be their home.	14 Como um rebanho serão postos no lugar dos mortos; a morte é seu pastor e os justos dominarão sobre eles. Depressa desaparecerão suas figuras, a região dos mortos será sua morada.
15 But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. [Selah]	15 Deus, porém, livrará minha alma da habitação dos mortos, tomando-me consigo.
16 Be not afraid when one becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases.	16 Não temas quando alguém se torna rico, quando aumenta o luxo de sua casa.
17 For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him.	17 Em morrendo, nada levará consigo, nem sua fortuna descerá com ele aos infernos.
18 Though, while he lives, he counts himself happy, and though a man gets praise when he does well for himself,	18 Ainda que em vida a si se felicitasse: Hão de te aplaudir pelos bens que granjeaste.
19 he will go to the generation of his fathers, who will never more see the light.	19 Ele irá para a companhia de seus pais, que nunca mais verão a luz.
20 Man cannot abide in his pomp, he is like the beasts that perish.	20 O homem que vive na opulência e não reflete é semelhante ao gado que se abate.
