Psalms 44

1 To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah. We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what deeds thou didst perform in their days, in the days of old:	1 [Für den Chormeister. Ein Weisheitslied der Korachiter.]
2 thou with thy own hand didst drive out the nations, but them thou didst plant; thou didst afflict the peoples, but them thou didst set free;	2 Gott, wir hörten es mit eigenen Ohren, unsere Väter erzählten uns von dem Werk, das du in ihren Tagen vollbracht hast, in den Tagen der Vorzeit.
3 for not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm give them victory; but thy right hand, and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance; for thou didst delight in them.	3 Mit eigener Hand hast du Völker vertrieben, sie aber eingepflanzt. Du hast Nationen zerschlagen, sie aber ausgesät.
4 Thou art my King and my God, who ordainest victories for Jacob.	4 Denn sie gewannen das Land nicht mit ihrem Schwert, noch verschaffte ihr Arm ihnen den Sieg; nein, deine Rechte war es, dein Arm und dein leuchtendes Angesicht; denn du hattest an ihnen Gefallen.
5 Through thee we push down our foes; through thy name we tread down our assailants.	5 Du, mein König und mein Gott, du bist es, der Jakob den Sieg verleiht.
6 For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me.	6 Mit dir stoßen wir unsere Bedränger nieder, in deinem Namen zertreten wir unsere Gegner.
7 But thou hast saved us from our foes, and hast put to confusion those who hate us.	7 Denn ich verlasse mich nicht auf meinen Bogen, noch kann mein Schwert mir helfen;
8 In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to thy name for ever. [Selah]	8 nein, du hast uns vor unsern Bedrängern gerettet; alle, die uns hassen, bedeckst du mit Schande.
9 Yet thou hast cast us off and abased us, and hast not gone out with our armies.	9 Wir rühmen uns Gottes den ganzen Tag und preisen deinen Namen auf ewig. [Sela]
10 Thou hast made us turn back from the foe; and our enemies have gotten spoil.	10 Doch nun hast du uns verstoßen und mit Schmach bedeckt, du ziehst nicht mit unserm Heer in den Kampf.
11 Thou hast made us like sheep for slaughter, and hast scattered us among the nations.	11 Du lässt uns vor unsern Bedrängern fliehen und Menschen, die uns hassen, plündern uns aus.
12 Thou hast sold thy people for a trifle, demanding no high price for them.	12 Du gibst uns preis wie Schlachtvieh, unter die Völker zerstreust du uns.
13 Thou hast made us the taunt of our neighbors, the derision and scorn of those about us.	13 Du verkaufst dein Volk um ein Spottgeld und hast an dem Erlös keinen Gewinn.
14 Thou hast made us a byword among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples.	14 Du machst uns zum Schimpf für die Nachbarn, zu Spott und Hohn bei allen, die rings um uns wohnen.
15 All day long my disgrace is before me, and shame has covered my face,	15 Du machst uns zum Spottlied der Völker, die Heiden zeigen uns nichts als Verachtung.
16 at the words of the taunters and revilers, at the sight of the enemy and the avenger.	16 Meine Schmach steht mir allzeit vor Augen und Scham bedeckt mein Gesicht
17 All this has come upon us, though we have not forgotten thee, or been false to thy covenant.	17 wegen der Worte des lästernden Spötters, wegen der rachgierigen Blicke des Feindes.
18 Our heart has not turned back, nor have our steps departed from thy way,	18 Das alles ist über uns gekommen und doch haben wir dich nicht vergessen, uns von deinem Bund nicht treulos abgewandt.
19 that thou shouldst have broken us in the place of jackals, and covered us with deep darkness.	19 Unser Herz ist nicht von dir gewichen, noch hat unser Schritt deinen Pfad verlassen.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God, or spread forth our hands to a strange god,	20 Doch du hast uns verstoßen an den Ort der Schakale und uns bedeckt mit Finsternis.
21 would not God discover this? For he knows the secrets of the heart.	21 Hätten wir den Namen unseres Gottes vergessen und zu einem fremden Gott die Hände erhoben,
22 Nay, for thy sake we are slain all the day long, and accounted as sheep for the slaughter.	22 würde Gott das nicht ergründen? Denn er kennt die heimlichen Gedanken des Herzens.
23 Rouse thyself! Why sleepest thou, O Lord? Awake! Do not cast us off for ever!	23 Nein, um deinetwillen werden wir getötet Tag für Tag, behandelt wie Schafe, die man zum Schlachten bestimmt hat.
24 Why dost thou hide thy face? Why dost thou forget our affliction and oppression?	24 Wach auf! Warum schläfst du, Herr? Erwache, verstoß nicht für immer!
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our body cleaves to the ground.	25 Warum verbirgst du dein Gesicht, vergisst unsere Not und Bedrängnis?
26 Rise up, come to our help! Deliver us for the sake of thy steadfast love!	26 Unsere Seele ist in den Staub hinabgebeugt, unser Leib liegt am Boden.
	27 Steh auf und hilf uns! In deiner Huld erlöse uns!
