A prayer of one afflicted, when he is faint and pours out his complaint before the LORD. Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry come to thee!1 The prayer of the poor man, when he was anxious, and poured out his supplication before the Lord.
Do not hide thy face from me in the day of my distress! Incline thy ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call!2 Hear, O Lord, my prayer: and let my cry come to thee.
For my days pass away like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace.3 Turn not away thy face from me: in the day when I am in trouble, incline thy ear to me. In what day soever I shall call upon thee, hear me speedily.
My heart is smitten like grass, and withered; I forget to eat my bread.4 For my days are vanished like smoke: and my bones are grown dry like fuel for the fire.
Because of my loud groaning my bones cleave to my flesh.5 I am smitten as grass, and my heart is withered: because I forgot to eat my bread.
I am like a vulture of the wilderness, like an owl of the waste places;6 Through the voice of my groaning, my bone hath cleaved to my flesh.
I lie awake, I am like a lonely bird on the housetop.7 I am become like to a pelican of the wilderness: I am like a night raven in the house.
All the day my enemies taunt me, those who deride me use my name for a curse.8 I have watched, and am become as a sparrow all alone on the housetop.
For I eat ashes like bread, and mingle tears with my drink,9 All the day long my enemies reproached me: and they that praised me did swear against me.
because of thy indignation and anger; for thou hast taken me up and thrown me away.10 For I did eat ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping.
My days are like an evening shadow; I wither away like grass.11 Because of thy anger and indignation: for having lifted me up thou hast thrown me down.
But thou, O LORD, art enthroned for ever; thy name endures to all generations.12 My days have declined like a shadow, and I am withered like grass.
Thou wilt arise and have pity on Zion; it is the time to favor her; the appointed time has come.13 But thou, O Lord, endurest for ever: and thy memorial to all generations.
For thy servants hold her stones dear, and have pity on her dust.14 Thou shalt arise and have mercy on Sion: for it is time to have mercy on it, for the time is come.
The nations will fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.15 For the stones thereof have pleased thy servants: and they shall have pity on the earth thereof.
For the LORD will build up Zion, he will appear in his glory;16 And the Gentiles shall fear thy name, O Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.
he will regard the prayer of the destitute, and will not despise their supplication.17 For the Lord hath built up Sion: and he shall be seen in his glory.
Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet unborn may praise the LORD:18 He hath had regard to the prayer of the humble: and he hath not despised their petition.
that he looked down from his holy height, from heaven the LORD looked at the earth,19 Let these things be written unto another generation: and the people that shall be created shall praise the Lord:
to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die;20 Because he hath looked forth from his high sanctuary: from heaven the Lord hath looked upon the earth.
that men may declare in Zion the name of the LORD, and in Jerusalem his praise,21 That he might hear the groans of them that are in fetters: that he might release the children of the slain:
when peoples gather together, and kingdoms, to worship the LORD.22 That they may declare the name of the Lord in Sion: and his praise in Jerusalem;
He has broken my strength in mid-course; he has shortened my days.23 When the people assemble together, and kings, to serve the Lord.
"O my God," I say, "take me not hence in the midst of my days, thou whose years endure throughout all generations!"24 He answered him in the way of his strength: Declare unto me the fewness of my days.
Of old thou didst lay the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of thy hands.25 Call me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are unto generation and generation.
They will perish, but thou dost endure; they will all wear out like a garment. Thou changest them like raiment, and they pass away;26 In the beginning, O Lord, thou foundedst the earth: end the heavens are the works of thy hands.
but thou art the same, and thy years have no end.27 They shall perish but thou remainest: and all of them shall grow old like a garment: And as a vesture thou shalt change them, and they shall be changed.
The children of thy servants shall dwell secure; their posterity shall be established before thee.28 But thou art always the selfsame, and thy years shall not fail.
The children of thy servants shall continue: and their seed shall be directed for ever.
