1 "Do you know when the mountain goats bring forth? Do you observe the calving of the hinds?	1 « Conosci tu il tempo in cui le capre selvatiche figliano nelle rocce, hai assistito nel parto le cerve?
2 Can you number the months that they fulfil, and do you know the time when they bring forth,	2 Hai contati i mesi di lor gravidanza, e sai il tempo del loro parto?
3 when they crouch, bring forth their offspring, and are delivered of their young?	3 S'incurvano per dare alla luce e partoriscono mandando gemiti.
4 Their young ones become strong, they grow up in the open; they go forth, and do not return to them.	4 I loro piccoli le lasciano per correre alla pastura; se ne vanno e non tornano più alle madri.
5 "Who has let the wild ass go free? Who has loosed the bonds of the swift ass,	5 Chi pose l'onagro in libertà e ne sciolse i legami?
6 to whom I have given the steppe for his home, and the salt land for his dwelling place?	6 Io gli diedi una dimora nel deserto ed una terra salata ad abitare.
7 He scorns the tumult of the city; he hears not the shouts of the driver.	7 Egli disprezza l'affollamento della città e non sente il vociar dell'aguzzino.
8 He ranges the mountains as his pasture, and he searches after every green thing.	8 Vo1ge in giro gli occhi alle montagne di sua pastura e va in traccia d'ogni filo d'erba.
9 "Is the wild ox willing to serve you? Will he spend the night at your crib?	9 Il rinoceronte vorrà egli servirti? Se ne starà alla tua mangiatoia?
10 Can you bind him in the furrow with ropes, or will he harrow the valleys after you?	10 Lo legherai al tuo giogo per arare? Romperà dietro a te le zolle delle tue valli?
11 Will you depend on him because his strength is great, and will you leave to him your labor?	11 Ti fiderai della sua gran forza? Gli affiderai i tuoi lavori?
12 Do you have faith in him that he will return, and bring your grain to your threshing floor?	12 Credi tu che egli ti renda la tua sementè e ti empia la tua aia?
13 "The wings of the ostrich wave proudly; but are they the pinions and plumage of love?	13 La penna dello struzzo è simile alle penne della cicogna e dello sparviero.
14 For she leaves her eggs to the earth, and lets them be warmed on the ground,	14 Quando egli abbandona le sue ova per terra, sei forse tu che le riscaldi sulla sabbia?
15 forgetting that a foot may crush them, and that the wild beast may trample them.	15 Egli non pensa che un piede le potrà schiacciare, che la fiera le potrà calpestare.
16 She deals cruelly with her young, as if they were not hers; though her labor be in vain, yet she has no fear;	16 Spietato contro i suoi nati, come se non fossero suoi, rende la sua fatica vana anche non costretto dal timore;
17 because God has made her forget wisdom, and given her no share in understanding.	17 perché il Signore gli negò la saggezza e non gli diede giudizio.
18 When she rouses herself to flee, she laughs at the horse and his rider.	18 Ma quando è tempo stende in alto le sue ali e si burla del cavallo e del cavaliere.
19 "Do you give the horse his might? Do you clothe his neck with strength?	19 Sarai tu quello che darai la forza al destriero e gli vestirai il collo di fremiti?
20 Do you make him leap like the locust? His majestic snorting is terrible.	20 E lo farai saltare come locusta? La fierezza del suo sbuffare atterrisce.
21 He paws in the valley, and exults in his strength; he goes out to meet the weapons.	21 Raspa la terra colla zampa, si slancia con audacia, va incontro agli armati.
22 He laughs at fear, and is not dismayed; he does not turn back from the sword.	22 Disprezza la paura, non cede alla spada;
23 Upon him rattle the quiver, the flashing spear and the javelin.	23 sopra di lui risonerà il turcasso, scintillerà la lancia e lo scudo.
24 With fierceness and rage he swallows the ground; he cannot stand still at the sound of the trumpet.	24 Spumante e fremente divora la terra, non gli par vero che suoni la tromba.
25 When the trumpet sounds, he says 'Aha!' He smells the battle from afar, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.	25 Sentito lo squillo, dice: Via! Sente da lungi l'odor della battaglia, le esortazioni dei duci e il vociar dei soldati.
26 "Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars, and spreads his wings toward the south?	26 Forse per la tua sapienza lo sparviero si veste di piume e spicca il volo verso il mezzodì?
27 Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up and makes his nest on high?	27 Forse al tuo cenno l'aquila si leverà in alto e porrà il suo nido nei luoghi più dovati?
28 On the rock he dwells and makes his home in the fastness of the rocky crag.	28 Sta sopra le rocce, per­notta fra i dirupi scoscesi e sopra vette inaccessibili.
29 Thence he spies out the prey; his eyes behold it afar off.	29 Di lassù con­templa la preda, e i suoi occhi ve­dono da lontano.
30 His young ones suck up blood; and where the slain are, there is he."	30 I suoi aqui­lotti lambiscono il sangue, ed essa si trova dovunque sia un cadavere ».
	31 Poi il Signore, seguitando a parlare, disse a Giobbe:
	32 « Chi chiede ragione a Dio s'acquieterà così facilmente? Certo chi critica Dio deve rispondergli ».
	33 Allora Giobbe rispose al Signore, dicendo:
	34 « Io, che ho parlato con leggerezza, che posso rispondere? Porrò la mia mano sulla mia bocca.
	35 H0 detto una cosa, (oh, non l'avessi. detta!) e un'altra, e non dirò più nulla ».
