Exodus 16

1 They set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the people of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt.	1 E partiti sono di Elim, e venne tutta la moltitudine de' figliuoli d'Israel nel deserto di Sin, il quale è intra Elim e Sinai, lo quintodecimo dì del mese secondo, poscia che egli vennero della terra d'Egitto.
2 And the whole congregation of the people of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness,	2 E mormorò tutta la congregazione delli figliuoli d'Israel contra Moisè ed Aaron nella solitudine.
3 and said to them, "Would that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpots and ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."	3 E dissero a loro: Dio il volesse, che noi fos simo morti per la mano del Signore nella terra di Egitto, quando sedavamo sopra le pentole della carne e mangiavamo li pani in saturitade! perchè mena ste noi nel deserto, acciò che voi uccideste tutta la moltitudine di fame?
4 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law or not.	4 Ma disse lo Signore a Moisè: ecco, io pioverò a voi lo pane del cielo; vada lo popolo, e rauni quello che basti per ciascheduno dì, acciò ch' io tenti lui, s'egli vae nella legge mia.
5 On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily."	5 Ma lo sesto die apparecchino quelle cose che induceranno; e sia doppio che quello che soliano ricogliere per cadauno di.
6 So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel, "At evening you shall know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt,	6 E dissero Moisè ed Aaron a tutti li figliuoli d'Israel: nel vespro saperete, che lo Signore abbia menato voi della terra d'Egitto.
7 and in the morning you shall see the glory of the LORD, because he has heard your murmurings against the LORD. For what are we, that you murmur against us?"	7 E la mattina vederete la gloria del Signore Iddio: in verità io ho udito lo mormorare vostro contro lo Signore: noi veramente che siamo, però che mormorate contra noi?
8 And Moses said, "When the LORD gives you in the evening flesh to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the LORD has heard your murmurings which you murmur against him--what are we? Your murmurings are not against us but against the LORD."	8 E disse Moisè: darà a voi lo Signore a vespro delle carni a mangiare, e la mattina li pani in saturità; perciò che egli udì la mormorazione vostra, con la quale mormoraste contra lui. Ma noi che siamo? Nè contra noi è la mormorazione vostra, ma contra a Dio.
9 And Moses said to Aaron, "Say to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, 'Come near before the LORD, for he has heard your murmurings.'"	9 E disse Moisè ad Aaron: dì a tutta la congregazione de' figliuoli d'Israel: andate dinanzi al Signore, perciò che egli udì lo mormorar vostro.
10 And as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.	10 E quando favellava Aaron ad ogni schiatta de' figliuoli d'Israel, ragguardarono alla solitudine; ed ecco la gloria del Signore apparì nella nuvola.
11 And the LORD said to Moses,	11 E favellò lo Signore a Moisè, dicendo:
12 "I have heard the murmurings of the people of Israel; say to them, 'At twilight you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; then you shall know that I am the LORD your God.'"	12 Io udii le mormorazioni de' figliuoli d'Israel, (colle quali contra noi mormorarono); favella a loro: nel vespro mangerete la carne, e la mattina vi saturerete di pane; e saperete ch' io sono lo Signore Iddio vostro.
13 In the evening quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning dew lay round about the camp.	13 Fatto è adunque lo vespro, e saliente la cotornice coprì li castelli; ma la mattina la rugiada stava nello circuito delli castelli.
14 And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as hoarfrost on the ground.	14 E conciosia cosa ch' egli coprisse la faccia della terra, apparì nella solitudine minuto, e quasi pelo tonduto, in similitudine di brinata sopra la terra.
15 When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "It is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.	15 La qual cosa qnando la viddero li figliuoli d'Israel, dissero insieme: Manhu? che significa: che è questo? E non sapeano quello che fosse. Ai quali disse Moisè: questo è lo pane, lo quale diede lo Signore a voi a mangiare.
16 This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Gather of it, every man of you, as much as he can eat; you shall take an omer apiece, according to the number of the persons whom each of you has in his tent.'"	16 Questa è la parola, la quale comandò lo Signore: ricolgane di quello ciascheduno quanto gli basta a mangiare; gomor (cioè una misura) per ciascheduno capo, secondo lo numero delle anime vostre, le quali abitano nel tabernacolo, così torrete.
17 And the people of Israel did so; they gathered, some more, some less.	17 E fecero così li figliuoli d'Israel; e ricolse alcuno più, e alcuno meno.
18 But when they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; each gathered according to what he could eat.	18 E misurarono alla misura di gomor; nè co lui che più n' avea ricolta più ampiamente n'ebbe, nè colui che meno n'avea apparecchiata ne ritrovoe meno; ma tutti, secondo quello che mangiare poteano raunaronsi.
19 And Moses said to them, "Let no man leave any of it till the morning."	19 E disse Moisè a loro; niuno ne lassi di quello la mattina.
20 But they did not listen to Moses; some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and became foul; and Moses was angry with them.	20 I quali non udirono lui, ma lasciàronne alcuno di loro insino alla mattina; e cominciò produrre li vermini, e putiva. Adirato fu contra di loro Moisè.
21 Morning by morning they gathered it, each as much as he could eat; but when the sun grew hot, it melted.	21 Ma raunavano ciascheduno di loro la mattina quanto bastare potea a mangiare; e quando calava lo sole, facevasi liquido.
22 On the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers apiece; and when all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses,	22 Ma nel dì sesto raunavano li cibi doppii, cioè due gomor per ciascheduno uomo: e vennero tutti li principi della moltitudine, e dissero a Moisè.
23 he said to them, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest, a holy sabbath to the LORD; bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over lay by to be kept till the morning.'"	23 Il quale disse a loro: questo è quello che disse lo Signore: lo riposo del sabbato santificato sarà al Signore domane; quello che è da operare fate, e quelle cose che sono da cuocere, cuocetele; e qualunque cosa rimanesse, riponetela insino alla mattina.
24 So they laid it by till the morning, as Moses bade them; and it did not become foul, and there were no worms in it.	24 E fecero così come comandò Moisè; e non puzzò, nè niuno vermine è trovato in quello.
25 Moses said, "Eat it today, for today is a sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field.	25 Disse Moisè: mangiate quello oggi, perciò che l'è il sabbato del Signore; non se ne troverà oggi nel campo.
26 Six days you shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is a sabbath, there will be none."	26 Sei dì la recogliete; ma nel dì settimo, sabbato è del Signore; però non se ne troverà.
27 On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, and they found none.	27 Venne lo settimo dì; e venute fuori le genti del popolo acciò che ne ricogliessero, non ne trovarono.
28 And the LORD said to Moses, "How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?	28 E disse lo Signore a Moisè: perchè non vo lete guardare li comandamenti miei e la legge mia?
29 See! The LORD has given you the sabbath, therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days; remain every man of you in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day."	29 Vedete che ha dato a voi lo Signore lo sabbato; e per questo ha dato voi lo dì sesto li cibi doppii; stia ciascuno appresso sè medesimo; niuno si parta dal luogo suo lo dì settimo.
30 So the people rested on the seventh day.	30 Perciò festeggiò lo popolo lo sabbato, lo dì settimo.
31 Now the house of Israel called its name manna; it was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.	31 E appellò la casa d'Israel lo nome suo Manna: perciò ch' egli era quasi come seme di coriandi bianchi, al gusto suo quasi come simile col miele.
32 And Moses said, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Let an omer of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.'"	32 Ma disse Moisè: questa è la parola che comandò lo Signore: empi lo gomor di quello, e sia reservato alla generazione la quale dee venire dietro, acciò ch' ella conosca lo pane del quale io notricai voi nella solitudine, quando ne foste menati della terra d'Egitto.
33 And Moses said to Aaron, "Take a jar, and put an omer of manna in it, and place it before the LORD, to be kept throughout your generations."	33 E disse [ Moisè] ad Aaron: togli uno vasello, e mettivi dentro la manna, quanto ve ne puote capere lo gomor; e riponilo innanzi al Signore a servare nelle generazioni vostre,
34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before the testimony, to be kept.	34 siccome comandò lo Signore a Moisè. E pose quello Aaron a riservare nel tabernacolo.
35 And the people of Israel ate the manna forty years, till they came to a habitable land; they ate the manna, till they came to the border of the land of Canaan.	35 Li figliuoli d'Israel mangiarono la manna XL anni, tanto che venissero nella terra abitabile. Con questo cibo nutricati sono, insino che toccarono li fini della terra Canaan.
36 (An omer is the tenth part of an ephah.)	36 Ma lo gomor è la decima parte di efi.
