1 They set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the people of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt.	1 E tutta la moltitudine dei figli d'Israele, partita da Elim, giunse nel deserto di Sin, che è tra Elim e il Sinai, ai quindici dei secondo mese dopo l'uscita dall'Egitto.
2 And the whole congregation of the people of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness,	2 Allora tutta la moltitudine dei figli d'Israele si mise a mormorare contro Mosè ed Aronne nel deserto,
3 and said to them, "Would that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpots and ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."	3 e a dir loro: « Oh, quanto era meglio esser morti per mano del Signore nella terra d'Egitto, quando sedevamo presso le caldaie della carne e si mangiava pane a sazietà! Perchè ci avete condotti in questo deserto a far morir di fame tutta questa moltitudine? »
4 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law or not.	4 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Ecco, io vi farò piovere del pane dal Cielo: esca il popolo e ne raccolga quanto gliene bisogna giorno per giorno, e così io provi se egli cammina o no secondo la mia legge.
5 On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily."	5 Il sesto giorno devono prepararne da serbare, e sia il doppio di quel che solevano raccogliere per ciascun giorno ».
6 So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel, "At evening you shall know that it was the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt,	6 Allora Mosè ed Aronne dissero a tutti i figli d'Israele: « Questa sera voi conoscerete che il Signore è Colui che v'ha tratti dalla terra d'Egitto;
7 and in the morning you shall see the glory of the LORD, because he has heard your murmurings against the LORD. For what are we, that you murmur against us?"	7 domattina vedrete la gloria dei Signore. Egli ha sentite le vostre mormorazioni contro il Signore; ma noi, e che siamo perchè mormoriate contro di noi? »
8 And Moses said, "When the LORD gives you in the evening flesh to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the LORD has heard your murmurings which you murmur against him--what are we? Your murmurings are not against us but against the LORD."	8 E Mosè aggiunse: « Il Signore questa sera vi darà delle carni a mangiare, e domattina del pane a sazietà, avendo egli udite le mormorazioni che lanciaste contro di lui. Noi infatti, che siamo? Le vostre mormorazioni non sono contro di noi, ma contro il Signore ».
9 And Moses said to Aaron, "Say to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, 'Come near before the LORD, for he has heard your murmurings.'"	9 Poi Mosè disse ad Aronne: « Di' a tutta la moltitudine dei figli d'Israele: Avvicinatevi alla presenza del Signore, perchè egli ha sentite le vostre mormorazioni ».
10 And as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.	10 Or mentre Aronne par lava a tutta la moltitudine dei figli d'Israele, questi volsero gli occhi al deserto, ed ecco la gloria del Signore apparire nella nuvola.
11 And the LORD said to Moses,	11 E il Signore, parlando a Mosè, disse:
12 "I have heard the murmurings of the people of Israel; say to them, 'At twilight you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; then you shall know that I am the LORD your God.'"	12 « Ho udite le mormorazioni dei figli d'Israele; di' dunque loro: Questa sera mangerete della carne, e domattina sarete saziati di pane, e conoscerete che io sono il Signore Dio vostro ».
13 In the evening quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning dew lay round about the camp.	13 Venuta adunque la sera, salirono le quaglie che ricopersero gli accampamenti, e la mattina vi fu la rugiada intorno agli accampamenti.
14 And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as hoarfrost on the ground.	14 Or dopo che la rugiada ebbe coperta la faccia della terra, apparve nel deserto una cosa minuta come ciò che è pestato nel mortaio, e simile alla brina sulla terra.
15 When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "It is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.	15 E i figli d'Israele veduta che l'ebbero, si dissero l'un l'altro: « Manu », cioè: « Che è questo? », perchè non sapevano che fosse. E Mosè disse loro: « Questo è il pane che il Signore vi ha dato a mangiare.
16 This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Gather of it, every man of you, as much as he can eat; you shall take an omer apiece, according to the number of the persons whom each of you has in his tent.'"	16 Or questi son gli ordini del Signore: Ciascuno ne raccolga quanto gli basta pel suo nutrimento: un gomor a testa ne prenderete, secondo il numero delle persone che abitano in ciascuna tenda ».
17 And the people of Israel did so; they gathered, some more, some less.	17 E i figli d'Israele, così facendo, ne raccolsero chi più chi meno,
18 But when they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; each gathered according to what he could eat.	18 ma poi, misuratolo col gomor, chi ne aveva raccolto di più non ne ebbe in maggior quantità, e chi ne aveva raccolto meno non gliene mancava. Ognuno ne raccolse in proporzione di quel che poteva mangiare.
19 And Moses said to them, "Let no man leave any of it till the morning."	19 E Mosè disse loro: « Nessuno ne serbi fino alla mattina ».
20 But they did not listen to Moses; some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and became foul; and Moses was angry with them.	20 Ma non lo stettero a sentire, e alcuni la conservarono fino alla mattina; ma quella cominciò a brulicare di vermi, e si corruppe; Mosè poi s'adirò contro costoro.
21 Morning by morning they gathered it, each as much as he could eat; but when the sun grew hot, it melted.	21 Così ognuno la mattina ne raccoglieva quanto poteva bastare pel suo nutrimento, perchè appena il sole si faceva caldo, la manna si squagliava.
22 On the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers apiece; and when all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses,	22 Or il sesto giorno, raccolto il doppio di quel cibo, cioè due gomor per testa, tutti i capi del popolo vennero a dirlo a Mosè,
23 he said to them, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest, a holy sabbath to the LORD; bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over lay by to be kept till the morning.'"	23 Il quale disse loro: « Ecco quanto ha detto il Signore: Domani è il riposo del sabato, consacrato al Signore: fate oggi tutto quello che avete da fare, e cuocete quel che avete da cuocere, e quel che avanza serbatelo per domani ».
24 So they laid it by till the morning, as Moses bade them; and it did not become foul, and there were no worms in it.	24 E avendo essi fatto come Mosè aveva comandato, la manna non si guastò, nè vi si trovò verme alcuno.
25 Moses said, "Eat it today, for today is a sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field.	25 E Mosè disse: « Mangiatela oggi, perchè è il sabato del Signore, e oggi non potrete trovarne nella campagna,
26 Six days you shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is a sabbath, there will be none."	26 per sei giorni raccoglietene; ma il settimo giorno, essendo il sabato del Signore, non ne troverete ».
27 On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, and they found none.	27 Ora nel settimo giorno, essendo alcuni del popolo andati a raccoglierne, non ne trovarono.
28 And the LORD said to Moses, "How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?	28 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Fino a quando rifiuterete di osservare i miei comandamenti e la mia legge?
29 See! The LORD has given you the sabbath, therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days; remain every man of you in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day."	29 Riflettete che il Signore vi ha dato il sabato, e per questo il sesto giorno vi dà doppia razione di cibo: ognuno se ne stia nella sua tenda, e nessuno esca dalla sua dimora nel settimo giorno ».
30 So the people rested on the seventh day.	30 Così il popolo si riposò nel settimo giorno.
31 Now the house of Israel called its name manna; it was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.	31 Or la casa d'Israele chiamò quel cibo « Manna »; esso era simile al seme di coriandolo, era bianco ed aveva il sapore di fior di farina col miele.
32 And Moses said, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Let an omer of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.'"	32 E Mosè disse: « Questo è ciò che ha ordinato il Signore: empite di manna un gomor, affinchè sia conservata per le future generazioni, ed esse sappiano con qual pane vi ho nutriti nel deserto, dopo avervi tratti dalla terra d'Egitto ».
33 And Moses said to Aaron, "Take a jar, and put an omer of manna in it, and place it before the LORD, to be kept throughout your generations."	33 E Mosè disse ad Aronne: « Prendi un vaso e mettivi un gomor di manna, poi riponila davanti al Signore, per conservarla alle vostre generazioni ».
34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before the testimony, to be kept.	34 Secondo l'ordine dato dal Signore a Mosè, Aron ne la pose nel tabernacolo per esservi conservata.
35 And the people of Israel ate the manna forty years, till they came to a habitable land; they ate the manna, till they came to the border of the land of Canaan.	35 E i figlioli d'Israele si cibarono di manna per quaranta anni finché non giunsero in terra abitabile, si nutrirono di questo cibo, finché non toccarono i confini della terra di Canaan.
36 (An omer is the tenth part of an ephah.)	36 Or il gomor è la decima parte dell'efi.
