Exodus 14

1 Then the LORD said to Moses,	1 Der Herr sprach zu Mose:
2 "Tell the people of Israel to turn back and encamp in front of Pi-ha-hiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baal-zephon; you shall encamp over against it, by the sea.	2 Sag den Israeliten, sie sollen umkehren und vor Pi-Hahirot zwischen Migdol und dem Meer ihr Lager aufschlagen. Gegenüber von Baal-Zefon sollt ihr am Meer das Lager aufschlagen.
3 For Pharaoh will say of the people of Israel, 'They are entangled in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.'	3 Dann denkt der Pharao: Die Israeliten haben sich im Land verlaufen, die Wüste hat sie eingeschlossen.
4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host; and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD." And they did so.	4 Ich will das Herz des Pharao verhärten, sodass er ihnen nachjagt; dann will ich am Pharao und an seiner ganzen Streitmacht meine Herrlichkeit erweisen und die Ägypter sollen erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin. Und so taten sie es.
5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, the mind of Pharaoh and his servants was changed toward the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?"	5 Als man dem König von Ägypten meldete, das Volk sei geflohen, änderten der Pharao und seine Diener ihre Meinung über das Volk und sagten: Wie konnten wir nur Israel aus unserem Dienst entlassen!
6 So he made ready his chariot and took his army with him,	6 Er ließ seinen Streitwagen anspannen und nahm seine Leute mit.
7 and took six hundred picked chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them.	7 Sechshundert auserlesene Streitwagen nahm er mit und alle anderen Streitwagen der Ägypter und drei Mann auf jedem Wagen.
8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt and he pursued the people of Israel as they went forth defiantly.	8 Der Herr verhärtete das Herz des Pharao, des Königs von Ägypten, sodass er den Israeliten nachjagte, während sie voll Zuversicht weiterzogen.
9 The Egyptians pursued them, all Pharaoh's horses and chariots and his horsemen and his army, and overtook them encamped at the sea, by Pi-ha-hiroth, in front of Baal-zephon.	9 Die Ägypter jagten mit allen Pferden und Streitwagen des Pharao, mit seiner Reiterei und seiner Streitmacht hinter ihnen her und holten sie ein, als sie gerade am Meer lagerten. Es war bei Pi-Hahirot vor Baal-Zefon.
10 When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were in great fear. And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD;	10 Als der Pharao sich näherte, blickten die Israeliten auf und sahen plötzlich die Ägypter von hinten anrücken. Da erschraken die Israeliten sehr und schrien zum Herrn.
11 and they said to Moses, "Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us, in bringing us out of Egypt?	11 Zu Mose sagten sie: Gab es denn keine Gräber in Ägypten, dass du uns zum Sterben in die Wüste holst? Was hast du uns da angetan? Warum hast du uns aus Ägypten herausgeführt?
12 Is not this what we said to you in Egypt, 'Let us alone and let us serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness."	12 Haben wir dir in Ägypten nicht gleich gesagt: Lass uns in Ruhe! Wir wollen Sklaven der Ägypter bleiben; denn es ist für uns immer noch besser, Sklaven der Ägypter zu sein, als in der Wüste zu sterben.
13 And Moses said to the people, "Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.	13 Mose aber sagte zum Volk: Fürchtet euch nicht! Bleibt stehen und schaut zu, wie der Herr euch heute rettet. Wie ihr die Ägypter heute seht, so seht ihr sie niemals wieder.
14 The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be still."	14 Der Herr kämpft für euch, ihr aber könnt ruhig abwarten.
15 The LORD said to Moses, "Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward.	15 Der Herr sprach zu Mose: Was schreist du zu mir? Sag den Israeliten, sie sollen aufbrechen.
16 Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go on dry ground through the sea.	16 Und du heb deinen Stab hoch, streck deine Hand über das Meer und spalte es, damit die Israeliten auf trockenem Boden in das Meer hineinziehen können.
17 And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they shall go in after them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, his chariots, and his horsemen.	17 Ich aber will das Herz der Ägypter verhärten, damit sie hinter ihnen hineinziehen. So will ich am Pharao und an seiner ganzen Streitmacht, an seinen Streitwagen und Reitern meine Herrlichkeit erweisen.
18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen."	18 Die Ägypter sollen erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin, wenn ich am Pharao, an seinen Streitwagen und Reitern meine Herrlichkeit erweise.
19 Then the angel of God who went before the host of Israel moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them,	19 Der Engel Gottes, der den Zug der Israeliten anführte, erhob sich und ging an das Ende des Zuges und die Wolkensäule vor ihnen erhob sich und trat an das Ende.
20 coming between the host of Egypt and the host of Israel. And there was the cloud and the darkness; and the night passed without one coming near the other all night.	20 Sie kam zwischen das Lager der Ägypter und das Lager der Israeliten. Die Wolke war da und Finsternis und Blitze erhellten die Nacht. So kamen sie die ganze Nacht einander nicht näher.
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.	21 Mose streckte seine Hand über das Meer aus und der Herr trieb die ganze Nacht das Meer durch einen starken Ostwind fort. Er ließ das Meer austrocknen und das Wasser spaltete sich.
22 And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.	22 Die Israeliten zogen auf trockenem Boden ins Meer hinein, während rechts und links von ihnen das Wasser wie eine Mauer stand.
23 The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.	23 Die Ägypter setzten ihnen nach; alle Pferde des Pharao, seine Streitwagen und Reiter zogen hinter ihnen ins Meer hinein.
24 And in the morning watch the LORD in the pillar of fire and of cloud looked down upon the host of the Egyptians, and discomfited the host of the Egyptians,	24 Um die Zeit der Morgenwache blickte der Herr aus der Feuer- und Wolkensäule auf das Lager der Ägypter und brachte es in Verwirrung.
25 clogging their chariot wheels so that they drove heavily; and the Egyptians said, "Let us flee from before Israel; for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians."	25 Er hemmte die Räder an ihren Wagen und ließ sie nur schwer vorankommen. Da sagte der Ägypter: Ich muss vor Israel fliehen; denn Jahwe kämpft auf ihrer Seite gegen Ägypten.
26 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the water may come back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen."	26 Darauf sprach der Herr zu Mose: Streck deine Hand über das Meer, damit das Wasser zurückflutet und den Ägypter, seine Wagen und Reiter, zudeckt.
27 So Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its wonted flow when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled into it, and the LORD routed the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.	27 Mose streckte seine Hand über das Meer und gegen Morgen flutete das Meer an seinen alten Platz zurück, während die Ägypter auf der Flucht ihm entgegenliefen. So trieb der Herr die Ägypter mitten ins Meer.
28 The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen and all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea; not so much as one of them remained.	28 Das Wasser kehrte zurück und bedeckte Wagen und Reiter, die ganze Streitmacht des Pharao, die den Israeliten ins Meer nachgezogen war. Nicht ein Einziger von ihnen blieb übrig.
29 But the people of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.	29 Die Israeliten aber waren auf trockenem Boden mitten durch das Meer gezogen, während rechts und links von ihnen das Wasser wie eine Mauer stand.
30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the seashore.	30 So rettete der Herr an jenem Tag Israel aus der Hand der Ägypter. Israel sah die Ägypter tot am Strand liegen.
31 And Israel saw the great work which the LORD did against the Egyptians, and the people feared the LORD; and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses.	31 Als Israel sah, dass der Herr mit mächtiger Hand an den Ägyptern gehandelt hatte, fürchtete das Volk den Herrn. Sie glaubten an den Herrn und an Mose, seinen Knecht.
