1 In the twelfth year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, who ruled over the Assyrians in the great city of Nineveh, in the days of Arphaxad, who ruled over the Medes in Ecbatana--	1 Nell'anno decimosecondo del regno di Nabucodònosor, che regnava sugli Assiri nella grande città di Ninive, Arpacsàd regnava sui Medi in Ecbàtana.
2 he is the king who built walls about Ecbatana with hewn stones three cubits thick and six cubits long; he made the walls seventy cubits high and fifty cubits wide;	2 Questi edificò intorno a Ecbàtana mura con pietre tagliate nella misura di tre cubiti di larghezza e sei cubiti di lunghezza, portando l'altezza del muro a settanta cubiti e la larghezza a cinquanta cubiti.
3 at the gates he built towers a hundred cubits high and sixty cubits wide at the foundations;	3 Costruì alle porte della città le torri murali alte cento cubiti e larghe alla base sessanta cubiti;
4 and he made its gates, which were seventy cubits high and forty cubits wide, so that his armies could march out in force and his infantry form their ranks--	4 costruì le porte portandole fino all'altezza di settanta cubiti: la larghezza di ciascuna era di quaranta cubiti, per il passaggio dell'esercito dei suoi forti e l'uscita in parata dei suoi fanti.
5 it was in those days that King Nebuchadnezzar made war against King Arphaxad in the great plain which is on the borders of Ragae.	5 In quel periodo di tempo il re Nabucodònosor mosse guerra al re Arpacsàd nella grande pianura, cioè nella piana che si trova nel territorio di Ragau.
6 He was joined by all the people of the hill country and all those who lived along the Euphrates and the Tigris and the Hydaspes and in the plain where Arioch ruled the Elymaeans. Many nations joined the forces of the Chaldeans.	6 Ma si schierarono a fianco di costui tutti gli abitanti delle montagne e quelli della zona dell'Eufrate, del Tigri e dell'Idaspe e gli abitanti della pianura di Arioch, re degli Elamiti. Così molte genti si trovarono adunate in aiuto ai figli di Cheleud.
7 Then Nebuchadnezzar king of the Assyrians sent to all who lived in Persia and to all who lived in the west, those who lived in Cilicia and Damascus and Lebanon and Antilebanon and all who lived along the seacoast,	7 Allora Nabucodònosor re degli Assiri spedì messaggeri a tutti gli abitanti della Persia e a tutti gli abitanti delle regioni occidentali: a quelli della Cilicia e di Damasco, del Libano e dell'Antilibano e a tutti gli abitanti della fascia litoranea
8 and those among the nations of Carmel and Gilead, and Upper Galilee and the great Plain of Esdraelon,	8 e a quelli che appartenevano alle popolazioni del Carmelo e di Gàlaad, della Galilea superiore e della grande pianura di Esdrelon;
9 and all who were in Samaria and its surrounding towns, and beyond the Jordan as far as Jerusalem and Bethany and Chelous and Kadesh and the river of Egypt, and Tahpanhes and Raamses and the whole land of Goshen,	9 a tutti gli abitanti della Samaria e delle sue città, a quelli che stavano oltre il Giordano fino a Gerusalemme, Batane, Chelus e Cades e al torrente d'Egitto, nonché a Tafni, a Ramesse e a tutto il paese di Gessen,
10 even beyond Tanis and Memphis, and all who lived in Egypt as far as the borders of Ethiopia.	10 fino a comprendere la regione al di sopra di Tanis e Menfi, e ancora a tutti gli abitanti dell'Egitto sino ai confini dell'Etiopia.
11 But all who lived in the whole region disregarded the orders of Nebuchadnezzar king of the Assyrians, and refused to join him in the war; for they were not afraid of him, but looked upon him as only one man, and they sent back his messengers empty-handed and shamefaced.	11 Ma gli abitanti di tutte queste regioni disprezzarono l'invito di Nabucodònosor re degli Assiri e non lo seguirono nella guerra, perché non avevano alcun timore di lui, che agli occhi loro era come un uomo qualunque. Essi respinsero i suoi messaggeri a mani vuote e con disonore.
12 Then Nebuchadnezzar was very angry with this whole region, and swore by his throne and kingdom that he would surely take revenge on the whole territory of Cilicia and Damascus and Syria, that he would kill them by the sword, and also all the inhabitants of the land of Moab, and the people of Ammon, and all Judea, and every one in Egypt, as far as the coasts of the two seas.	12 Allora Nabucodònosor si accese di sdegno terribile contro tutte queste regioni e giurò per il suo trono e per il suo regno che avrebbe fatto sicura vendetta, devastando con la spada i paesi della Cilicia, di Damasco e della Siria, tutte le popolazioni della terra di Moab, gli Ammoniti, tutta la Giudea e tutti gli abitanti dell'Egitto fino al limite dei due mari.
13 In the seventeenth year he led his forces against King Arphaxad, and defeated him in battle, and overthrew the whole army of Arphaxad, and all his cavalry and all his chariots.	13 Quindi marciò con l'esercito contro il re Arpacsàd nel diciassettesimo anno, e prevalse su di lui in battaglia, travolgendo l'esercito di Arpacsàd con tutta la sua cavalleria e tutti i suoi carri.
14 Thus he took possession of his cities, and came to Ecbatana, captured its towers, plundered its markets, and turned its beauty into shame.	14 S'impadronì delle sue città, giunse fino a Ecbàtana e ne espugnò le torri, ne saccheggiò le piazze e ne mutò lo splendore in ludibrio.
15 He captured Arphaxad in the mountains of Ragae and struck him down with hunting spears; and he utterly destroyed him, to this day.	15 Poi sorprese Arpacsàd sui monti di Ragau, lo trafisse con le sue lance e lo tolse di mezzo in quel giorno.
16 Then he returned with them to Nineveh, he and all his combined forces, a vast body of troops; and there he and his forces rested and feasted for one hundred and twenty days.	16 Fece quindi ritorno a Ninive con tutto l'esercito eterogeneo, che era una moltitudine infinita di guerrieri e si fermò là, egli e il suo esercito, per centoventi giorni dandosi a divertimenti e banchetti.
