Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition NOVA VULGATA
Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.1 Duodecim annorum erat Manasses, cum regnare coe pisset, et quinquaginta quinque annis regnavit in Ierusalem.
He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.2 Fecit autem malum coram Domino iuxta abominationes gentium, quas expulit Dominus coram filiis Israel.
For he rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had broken down, and erected altars to the Baals, and made Asherahs, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them.3 Et conversus instauravit excelsa, quae demolitus fuerat Ezechias pater eius, construxitque aras Baalim et fecit palos et adoravit omnem militiam caeli et coluit eam.
And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever."4 Aedificavit quoque altaria in domo Domini, de qua dixerat Dominus: “ In Ierusalem erit nomen meum in aeternum ”.
And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.5 Aedificavit autem ea cuncto exercitui caeli in duobus atriis domus Domini.
And he burned his sons as an offering in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and practiced soothsaying and augury and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with wizards. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.6 Transireque fecit filios suos per ignem in valle filii Ennom. Hariolatus est, sectabatur auguria, maleficis artibus inserviebat, habebat secum pythones et aruspices; multaque mala operatus est coram Domino, ut irritaret eum.
And the image of the idol which he had made he set in the house of God, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, "In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name for ever;7 Posuit quoque sculptile, idolum, quod fecerat, in domo Dei, de qua locutus est Deus ad David et ad Salomonem filium eius dicens: “ In domo hac et in Ierusalem, quam elegi de cunctis tribubus Israel, ponam nomen meum in sempiternum.
and I will no more remove the foot of Israel from the land which I appointed for your fathers, if only they will be careful to do all that I have commanded them, all the law, the statutes, and the ordinances given through Moses."8 Et moveri non faciam pedem Israel de terra, quam tradidi patribus eorum, ita dumtaxat si custodierint facere, quae praecepi eis, cunctamque legem et praecepta atque iudicia, per manum Moysi ”.
Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that they did more evil than the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel.9 Igitur Manasses seduxit Iudam et habitatores Ierusalem, ut facerent malum super omnes gentes, quas subverterat Dominus a facie filiorum Israel.
The LORD spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they gave no heed.10 Locutusque est Dominus ad eum et ad populum illius, et attendere noluerunt.
Therefore the LORD brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks and bound him with fetters of bronze and brought him to Babylon.11 Idcirco superinduxit eis principes exercitus regis Assyriorum; ceperuntque Manassen compedibus et vinctum catenis duxerunt Babylonem.
And when he was in distress he entreated the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.12 Qui, postquam coangustatus est, oravit Dominum Deum suum et egit paenitentiam valde coram Deo patrum suorum.
He prayed to him, and God received his entreaty and heard his supplication and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God.13 Deprecatusque est eum, et placatus ei exaudivit orationem eius reduxitque eum Ierusalem in regnum suum; et cognovit Manasses quod Dominus ipse esset Deus.
Afterwards he built an outer wall for the city of David west of Gihon, in the valley, and for the entrance into the Fish Gate, and carried it round Ophel, and raised it to a very great height; he also put commanders of the army in all the fortified cities in Judah.14 Post haec aedificavit murum extra civitatem David ad occidentem Gihon in convalle et ad introitum portae Piscium per circuitum Ophel et exaltavit illum vehementer; constituitque principes exercitus in cunctis civitatibus Iudae munitis.
And he took away the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built on the mountain of the house of the LORD and in Jerusalem, and he threw them outside of the city.15 Et abstulit deos alienos et idolum de domo Domini, aras quoque, quas fecerat in monte domus Domini et in Ierusalem, et proiecit omnia extra urbem.
He also restored the altar of the LORD and offered upon it sacrifices of peace offerings and of thanksgiving; and he commanded Judah to serve the LORD the God of Israel.16 Porro instauravit altare Domini et immolavit super illud victimas pacificorum et pro gratiarum actione praecepitque Iudae, ut serviret Domino, Deo Israel.
Nevertheless the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God.17 Attamen adhuc populus immolabat in excelsis Domino Deo suo.
Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD the God of Israel, behold, they are in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.18 Reliqua autem gestorum Manasse et obsecratio eius ad Deum suum, verba quoque videntium, qui loquebantur ad eum in nomine Domini, Dei Israel, continentur in sermonibus regum Israel.
And his prayer, and how God received his entreaty, and all his sin and his faithlessness, and the sites on which he built high places and set up the Asherim and the images, before he humbled himself, behold, they are written in the Chronicles of the Seers.19 Oratio quoque eius et exauditio et cuncta peccata atque contemptus, loca etiam, in quibus aedificavit excelsa et fecit palos et statuas, antequam ageret paenitentiam, scripta sunt in sermonibus Hozai.
So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his house; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.20 Dormivit ergo Manasses cum patribus suis, et sepelierunt eum in domo sua. Regnavitque pro eo filius eius Amon.
Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.21 Viginti duorum annorum erat Amon, cum regnare coepisset, et duobus annis regnavit in Ierusalem.
He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as Manasseh his father had done. Amon sacrificed to all the images that Manasseh his father had made, and served them.22 Fecitque malum in conspectu Domini, sicut fecerat Manasses pater eius, et cunctis idolis, quae Manasses fuerat fabricatus, immolavit atque servivit.
And he did not humble himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself, but this Amon incurred guilt more and more.23 Et non humiliavit se ante faciem Domini, sicut humiliaverat se Manasses pater eius, et multo maiora deliquit.
And his servants conspired against him and killed him in his house.24 Cumque coniurassent adversus eum servi sui, interfecerunt eum in domo sua.
But the people of the land slew all those who had conspired against King Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.25 Porro populus terrae, caesis omnibus, qui conspiraverant contra regem Amon, consti tuit regem Iosiam filium eius pro eo.
