Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition JERUSALEM
Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.1 Manassé avait douze ans à son avènement et il régna 55 ans à Jérusalem.
He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.2 Il fit ce qui déplaît à Yahvé, imitant les abominations des nations que Yahvé avait chasséesdevant les Israélites.
For he rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had broken down, and erected altars to the Baals, and made Asherahs, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them.3 Il rebâtit les hauts lieux qu'avaient détruits Ezéchias son père, il éleva des autels aux Baals etfabriqua des pieux sacrés, il se prosterna devant toute l'armée du ciel et lui rendit un culte.
And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever."4 Il construisit des autels dans le Temple de Yahvé, dont Yahvé avait dit: "C'est à Jérusalemque mon Nom sera à jamais."
And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.5 Il construisit des autels à toute l'armée du ciel dans les deux cours du Temple de Yahvé.
And he burned his sons as an offering in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and practiced soothsaying and augury and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with wizards. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.6 C'est lui qui fit passer ses enfants par le feu dans la vallée des fils de Hinnom. Il pratiqua lesincantations, la divination et la magie, installa des nécromants et des devins, et multiplia les actions que Yahvéregarde comme mauvaises, provoquant ainsi sa colère.
And the image of the idol which he had made he set in the house of God, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, "In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name for ever;7 Il plaça l'idole, qu'il avait fait sculpter, dans le Temple de Dieu, dont Dieu avait dit à David età son fils Salomon: "Dans ce Temple et dans Jérusalem, la ville que j'ai choisie entre toutes les tribus d'Israël, jeplacerai mon Nom à jamais.
and I will no more remove the foot of Israel from the land which I appointed for your fathers, if only they will be careful to do all that I have commanded them, all the law, the statutes, and the ordinances given through Moses."8 Je ne détournerai plus les pas des Israélites de la terre où j'ai établi vos pères, pourvu qu'ilsveillent à pratiquer tout ce que je leur ai commandé selon toute la Loi, les prescriptions et les coutumestransmises par Moïse."
Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that they did more evil than the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel.9 Mais Manassé égara les Judéens et les habitants de Jérusalem, au point qu'ils agirent encoreplus mal que les nations que Yahvé avait exterminées devant les Israélites.
The LORD spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they gave no heed.10 Yahvé parla à Manassé et à son peuple, mais ils ne prêtèrent pas l'oreille.
Therefore the LORD brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks and bound him with fetters of bronze and brought him to Babylon.11 Alors Yahvé fit venir contre eux les généraux du roi d'Assyrie qui capturèrent Manassé avecdes crocs, le mirent aux fers et l'emmenèrent à Babylone.
And when he was in distress he entreated the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.12 A l'occasion de cette épreuve, il chercha à apaiser Yahvé, son Dieu, il s'humiliaprofondément devant le Dieu de ses pères;
He prayed to him, and God received his entreaty and heard his supplication and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God.13 il le pria et lui se laissa fléchir. Il entendit sa supplication et le réintégra dans sa royauté, àJérusalem. Manassé reconnut que c'est Yahvé qui est Dieu.
Afterwards he built an outer wall for the city of David west of Gihon, in the valley, and for the entrance into the Fish Gate, and carried it round Ophel, and raised it to a very great height; he also put commanders of the army in all the fortified cities in Judah.14 Après quoi, il restaura la muraille extérieure de la Cité de David, à l'ouest du Gihôn situédans le ravin, jusqu'à la porte des Poissons; elle entoura l'Ophel et il la suréleva beaucoup. Il mit des générauxdans toutes les villes fortifiées de Juda.
And he took away the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built on the mountain of the house of the LORD and in Jerusalem, and he threw them outside of the city.15 Il écarta alors du Temple de Yahvé les dieux de l'étranger et la statue, ainsi que tous lesautels qu'il avait construits sur la montagne du Temple et dans Jérusalem; il les jeta hors de la ville.
He also restored the altar of the LORD and offered upon it sacrifices of peace offerings and of thanksgiving; and he commanded Judah to serve the LORD the God of Israel.16 Il rétablit l'autel de Yahvé, y offrit des sacrifices de communion et de louange et ordonnaaux Judéens de servir Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël;
Nevertheless the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God.17 mais le peuple continuait de sacrifier sur les hauts lieux, bien qu'à Yahvé son Dieu.
Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD the God of Israel, behold, they are in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.18 Le reste de l'histoire de Manassé, la prière qu'il fit à son Dieu et les paroles des voyants quis'adressèrent à lui au nom de Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, se trouvent dans les Actes des rois d'Israël.
And his prayer, and how God received his entreaty, and all his sin and his faithlessness, and the sites on which he built high places and set up the Asherim and the images, before he humbled himself, behold, they are written in the Chronicles of the Seers.19 Sa prière et son exaucement, tous ses péchés et son impiété, les endroits où il avait construitdes hauts lieux et dressé des pieux sacrés et des idoles avant de s'être humilié, sont consignés dans l'histoire deHozaï.
So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his house; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.20 Manassé se coucha avec ses pères et on l'enterra dans le jardin de son palais. Son fils Amonrégna à sa place.
Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.21 Amon avait 22 ans à son avènement et il régna deux ans à Jérusalem.
He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as Manasseh his father had done. Amon sacrificed to all the images that Manasseh his father had made, and served them.22 Il fit ce qui déplaît à Yahvé, comme avait fait son père Manassé. Amon sacrifia et rendit unculte à toutes les idoles qu'avait faites son père Manassé.
And he did not humble himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself, but this Amon incurred guilt more and more.23 Il ne s'humilia pas devant Yahvé comme s'était humilié son père Manassé; au contraire, lui,Amon, se rendit gravement coupable.
And his servants conspired against him and killed him in his house.24 Ses serviteurs complotèrent contre lui et il le tuèrent dans son palais;
But the people of the land slew all those who had conspired against King Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.25 mais le peuple du pays frappa tous ceux qui avaient conspiré contre Amon et proclama roi àsa place son fils Josias.
