1 And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.	1 Tout le peuple de Juda choisit Ozias qui avait alors 16 ans et on le fit roi à la place de son père Amasias.
2 He built Eloth and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.	2 Il rebâtit Élat et la rendit à Juda après que le roi se fut couché avec ses pères.
3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.	3 Ozias avait 16 ans lorsqu’il monta sur le trône et il régna 52 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère Yékolyas était de Jérusalem.
4 And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.	4 Il fit ce qui est juste au regard de Yahvé, tout comme l’avait fait son père Amasias.
5 He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God; and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him prosper.	5 Durant toute la vie de Zacharie qui lui apprenait la crainte de Dieu, Amasias s’appliqua à rechercher Dieu. Dieu lui accorda la réussite tout le temps qu’il chercha Dieu.
6 He went out and made war against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in the territory of Ashdod and elsewhere among the Philistines.	6 Il se mit en campagne contre les Philistins; il démolit le rempart de Gat, les murs de Yabné et d’Ashdod, puis il reconstruisit les villes de la région d’Ashdod et du pays des Philistins.
7 God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabs that dwelt in Gurbaal, and against the Me-unites.	7 Dieu l’aida contre les Philistins, contre les Arabes qui habitaient Gour-Baal et les Méounites.
8 The Ammonites paid tribute to Uzziah, and his fame spread even to the border of Egypt, for he became very strong.	8 Les Ammonites versèrent l’impôt à Ozias; il fut célèbre jusqu’aux portes de l’Égypte, car il était devenu très puissant.
9 Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate and at the Valley Gate and at the Angle, and fortified them.	9 Ozias construisit des tours à Jérusalem, à la Porte de l’Angle, à la Porte de la Vallée et aux raccords du rempart: il leur donna des défenses.
10 And he built towers in the wilderness, and hewed out many cisterns, for he had large herds, both in the Shephelah and in the plain, and he had farmers and vinedressers in the hills and in the fertile lands, for he loved the soil.	10 Il construisit aussi des tours dans le désert et il y creusa de grandes citernes, car il y avait de nombreux troupeaux, tout comme dans le Bas-Pays et sur le plateau. Il aimait l’agriculture et possédait laboureurs et vignerons.
11 Moreover Uzziah had an army of soldiers, fit for war, in divisions according to the numbers in the muster made by Je-iel the secretary and Ma-aseiah the officer, under the direction of Hananiah, one of the king's commanders.	11 Ozias avait une armée entraînée, des hommes prêts à combattre organisés selon les données du recensement fait par Yéhiel, le secrétaire, et le greffier Maaséyas. Elle était aux ordres de Hananyas, l’un des officiers du roi.
12 The whole number of the heads of fathers' houses of mighty men of valor was two thousand six hundred.	12 Elle comptait au total 2 600 hommes, bons combattants et chefs de familles.
13 Under their command was an army of three hundred and seven thousand five hundred, who could make war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.	13 Sous leurs ordres se trouvait l’armée de campagne: elle comptait 307 500 hommes prêts à combattre pour épauler le roi contre l’ennemi.
14 And Uzziah prepared for all the army shields, spears, helmets, coats of mail, bows, and stones for slinging.	14 Ozias leur prépara pour toutes les campagnes, des boucliers, des lances, des casques, des cuirasses, des arcs et des pierres pour les frondes.
15 In Jerusalem he made engines, invented by skilful men, to be on the towers and the corners, to shoot arrows and great stones. And his fame spread far, for he was marvelously helped, till he was strong.	15 Il fit aussi pour Jérusalem des machines, inventées par un ingénieur, que l’on installait sur les tours et sur les angles du rempart pour lancer des flèches et de grosses pierres. Son nom devint célèbre au loin, car il sut si bien se faire aider qu’il devint très puissant.
16 But when he was strong he grew proud, to his destruction. For he was false to the LORD his God, and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.	16 Mais avec la puissance il devint orgueilleux au point de se corrompre; sans aucun égard pour Yahvé son Dieu, il entra dans la Maison de Yahvé pour faire fumer lui-même de l’encens sur l’autel des parfums.
17 But Azariah the priest went in after him, with eighty priests of the LORD who were men of valor;	17 Le prêtre Azarias entra derrière le roi Ozias, et avec lui 80 prêtres courageux;
18 and they withstood King Uzziah, and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but for the priests the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary; for you have done wrong, and it will bring you no honor from the LORD God."	18 ils lui firent front: “Ce n’est pas à toi, Ozias, lui dirent-ils, de faire fumer l’encens en l’honneur de Yahvé, mais bien aux prêtres fils d’Aaron qui ont été consacrés pour cela! Sors de la Maison! Tu désobéis et cela ne te couvrira pas de gloire devant Yahvé Dieu!”
19 Then Uzziah was angry. Now he had a censer in his hand to burn incense, and when he became angry with the priests leprosy broke out on his forehead, in the presence of the priests in the house of the LORD, by the altar of incense.	19 Ozias tenait en main un encensoir pour faire fumer l’encens; rouge de colère, il s’emportait contre les prêtres; mais alors sur son front la lèpre apparut, sous les yeux des prêtres qui se tenaient près de l’autel des parfums dans la Maison de Yahvé.
20 And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked at him, and behold, he was leprous in his forehead! And they thrust him out quickly, and he himself hastened to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.	20 Azarias, le prêtre en chef, et tous les autres prêtres se tournèrent vers lui; voyant la lèpre sur son front, ils le chassèrent aussitôt; lui-même se dépêcha de sortir car Yahvé l’avait frappé.
21 And King Uzziah was a leper to the day of his death, and being a leper dwelt in a separate house, for he was excluded from the house of the LORD. And Jotham his son was over the king's household, governing the people of the land.	21 Le roi Ozias fut lépreux jusqu’au jour de sa mort et, comme lépreux, il habita dans une maison isolée; il fut exclu de la Maison de Yahvé. Yotam, son fils, était chargé du palais royal et gouvernait le peuple du pays.
22 Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, from first to last, Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz wrote.	22 Le reste des actes d’Ozias, depuis les premiers jusqu’aux derniers, ont été écrits par le prophète Isaïe, fils d’Amos.
23 And Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the burial field which belonged to the kings, for they said, "He is a leper." And Jotham his son reigned in his stead.	23 Ozias se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra avec eux, mais seulement dans le terrain des tombes royales, car on disait: “C’est un lépreux!” Son fils Yotam régna à sa place.
