Now when the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal.1
And Elijah said to Elisha, "Tarry here, I pray you; for the LORD has sent me as far as Bethel." But Elisha said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel.2 ܘܐܡܪ ܐܠܝܐ ܠܐܠܝܫܥ ܟܬܪ ܠܝ ܗܪܟܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܫܕܪܢܝ ܠܒܝܬ ܐܝܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܠܝܫܥ ܚܝ ܗܘ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܚܝܐ ܗܝ ܢܦܫܟ ܕܠܐ ܐܫܒܩܟ ܘܢܚܬܘ ܠܒܝܬ ܐܝܠ
And the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, "Do you know that today the LORD will take away your master from over you?" And he said, "Yes, I know it; hold your peace."3 ܘܢܦܩܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܢܒ̈ܝܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܐܝܠ ܠܘܬ ܐܠܝܫܥ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܬ ܕܝܘܡܢܐ ܢܣܒ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܪܟ ܡܢ ܪܝܫܟ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܦ ܐܢܐ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܫܬܘܩܘ
Elijah said to him, "Elisha, tarry here, I pray you; for the LORD has sent me to Jericho." But he said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So they came to Jericho.4 ܘܐܡܪ ܐܠܝܐ ܠܐܠܝܫܥ ܟܬܪ ܠܝ ܗܪܟܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܫܕܪܢܝ ܠܐܝܪܝܚܘ ܘܐܡܪ ܚܝ ܗܘ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܚܝܐ ܗܝ ܢܦܫܟ ܕܠܐ ܐܫܒܩܟ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܠܐܝܪܝܚܘ
The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha, and said to him, "Do you know that today the LORD will take away your master from over you?" And he answered, "Yes, I know it; hold your peace."5 ܘܩܪܒܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܢܒܝ̈ܐ ܕܒܐܝܪܝܚܘ ܠܘܬ ܐܠܝܫܥ ܘܐܡܪ̈ܝܢ ܠܗ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܬ ܕܝܘܡܢܐ ܢܣܒ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܪܟ ܡܢ ܪܝܫܟ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܦ ܐܢܐ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܫܬܘܩܘ
Then Elijah said to him, "Tarry here, I pray you; for the LORD has sent me to the Jordan." But he said, "As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you." So the two of them went on.6 ܘܐܡܪ ܐܠܝܐ ܠܐܠܝܫܥ ܟܬܪ ܠܝ ܗܪܟܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܫܕܪܢܝ ܠܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܚܝ ܗܘ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܚܝܐ ܗܝ ܢܦܫܟ ܕܠܐ ܐܫܒܩܟ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܬܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ
Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went, and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan.7 ܘܚܡܫܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܡܢ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܢܒ̈ܝܐ ܐܙܠܘ ܘܩܡܘ ܡܢ ܩܒܘܠ ܡܢ ܪܘܚܩܐ ܘܬܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܩܡܘ ܥܠ ܣܦܬܗ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ
Then Elijah took his mantle, and rolled it up, and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground.8 ܘܢܣܒ ܐܠܝܐ ܡܥܦܪܗ ܘܟܪܟܗ ܘܡܚܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܡ̈ܝܐ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܘܐܬܦܠܓܘ ܦܠܓܐ ܠܟܐ ܘܦܠܓܐ ܠܟܐ ܘܥܒܪܘ ܬܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܒܝܒܫܐ
When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you." And Elisha said, "I pray you, let me inherit a double share of your spirit."9 ܘܟܕ ܥܒܪܘ ܐܡܪ ܐܠܝܐ ܠܐܠܝܫܥ ܫܐܠ ܡܢܐ ܐܥܒܕ ܠܟ ܥܕܠܐ ܐܬܕܒܪ ܡܢܟ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܠܝܫܥ ܢܗܘܐ ܚܕ ܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܒܪܘܚܟ ܥܠܝ
And he said, "You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if you do not see me, it shall not be so."10 ܘܐܡܪ ܐܣܓܝܬ ܫܐܠܬ ܐܢ ܬܚܙܝܢܝ ܟܕ ܡܬܕܒܪ ܐܢܐ ܡܢܟ ܢܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܗܟܢܐ ܘܐܢ ܠܐ ܠܐ ܢܗܘܐ
And as they still went on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.11 ܘܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܗܢܘܢ ܡܡܠܠܝܢ ܘܡܗܠܟܝܢ ܘܗܐ ܡܪܟܒܬܐ ܕܢܘܪܐ ܘܪܟܫܐ ܕܢܘܪܐ. ܘܦܪܫܘ ܒܝܬ ܬܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܘܣܠܩ ܐܠܝܐ ܒܥܠܥܠܐ ܠܫܡܝܐ
And Elisha saw it and he cried, "My father, my father! the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and rent them in two pieces.12 ܘܐܠܝܫܥ ܚܙܐ ܘܗܐ ܡܝܠܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܒܝ ܐܒܝ ܪܟܒܗ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܦܪ̈ܫܘܗܝ ܘܬܘܒ ܠܐ ܚܙܝܗܝ ܘܐܚܕ ܒ̈ܠܒܘܫܘܗܝ ܘܨܪܝ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܨܪ̈ܘܢ
And he took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.13
Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, saying, "Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other; and Elisha went over.14 ܘܩܪܐ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܘܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܗ ܕܡܪܝ ܐܠܝܐ ܘܐܦ ܗܘ ܡܚܐ ܠܡ̈ܝܐ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܘܐܬܦܠܓܘ ܦܠܓܐ ܠܟܐ ܘܦܠܓܐ ܠܟܐ ܘܥܒܪ ܐܠܝܫܥ
Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him over against them, they said, "The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha." And they came to meet him, and bowed to the ground before him.15 ܘܚܙܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܢܒܝ̈ܐ ܕܒܐܝܪܝܚܘ ܡܢ ܩܒܘܠ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܫܪܬ ܪܘܚܗ ܕܐܠܝܐ ܥܠ ܐܠܝܫܥ ܘܐܬܘ ܠܐܘܪܥܗ ܘܣܓܕܘ ܠܗ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ
And they said to him, "Behold now, there are with your servants fifty strong men; pray, let them go, and seek your master; it may be that the Spirit of the LORD has caught him up and cast him upon some mountain or into some valley." And he said, "You shall not send."16 ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܗܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܪܟܐ ܥܡ ܥܒ̈ܕܝܟ ܚܡܫܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܓܢܒܪ̈ܝ ܚܝܠܐ ܢܐܙܠܘܢ ܢܒܥܘܢܗ ܠܡܪܟ ܕܠܡܐ ܫܩܠܬܗ ܪܘܚܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܪܡܝܬܗ ܒܚܕ ܡܢ ܛܘܪ̈ܐ ܐܘ ܒܚܕ ܡܢ ܢܚ̈ܠܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐ ܬܫܕܪܘܢ
But when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, "Send." They sent therefore fifty men; and for three days they sought him but did not find him.17 ܘܐܬܟܬܫܘ ܥܡܗ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܒܗܬ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܫܕܪܘ ܘܫܕܪܘ ܚܡܫܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܒܥܐܘܗܝ ܬܠܬܐ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܢ ܘܠܐ ܐܫܟܚܘܗܝ
And they came back to him, while he tarried at Jericho, and he said to them, "Did I not say to you, Do not go?"18 ܘܐܬܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܘܗܘ ܝܬܒ ܒܐܝܪܝܚܘ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܐܡܪܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܬܐܙܠܘܢ
Now the men of the city said to Elisha, "Behold, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land is unfruitful."19 ܘܐܡܪܘ ܐܢܫ̈ܝ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܠܐܠܝܫܥ ܗܐ ܡܘܬܒܗ ܕܩܪܝܬܐ ܫܦܝܪ ܐܝܟ ܕܡܪܢ ܚܙܐ ܘܡ̈ܝܐ ܒܝܫܝܢ ܘܐܪܥܐ ܡܓܙܝܐ
He said, "Bring me a new bowl, and put salt in it." So they brought it to him.20 ܘܐܡܪ ܐܝܬܘ ܠܝ ܩܘܩܬܐ ܚܕܐ ܚܕܬܐ ܘܐܪܡܘ ܒܗ ܡܠܚܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܘ ܠܗ
Then he went to the spring of water and threw salt in it, and said, "Thus says the LORD, I have made this water wholesome; henceforth neither death nor miscarriage shall come from it."21 ܘܢܦܩ ܠܗ ܠܡܒܘܥܐ ܕܡ̈ܝܐ ܘܐܪܡܝ ܬܡܢ ܡܠܚܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܣܝܬ ܠܡ̈ܝܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܘܬܘܒ ܠܐ ܢܗܘܐ ܬܡܢ ܕܡܐܬ ܘܕܡܓܙܐ
So the water has been wholesome to this day, according to the word which Elisha spoke.22
He went up from there to Bethel; and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!"23 ܘܣܠܩ ܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܠܒܝܬ ܐܝܠ ܘܗܘ ܣܠܩ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܘܛ̈ܠܝܐ ܕܩ̈ܕܩܐ ܢܦܩܘ ܡܢ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܘܡܒܙܚܝܢ ܒܗ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܣܩ ܩܪܚܐ ܣܩ ܩܪܚܐ
And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys.24 ܘܐܬܦܢܝ ܠܒܣܬܪܗ ܘܚܙܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܠܛ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܫܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܢܦܩ ܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܕܒܝܢ ܡܢ ܥܒܐ ܘܦܪܬ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܐܪܒܥܝܢ ܘܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܛܠܝܝܢ
From there he went on to Mount Carmel, and thence he returned to Samaria. saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and rent them in two pieces.25 ܘܐܙܠ ܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܠܛܘܪܐ ܕܟܪܡܠܐ ܘܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܬܘܒ ܠܫܡܪܝܢ
