1 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.	1 Essendosi in quel tempo ammalato Abia figlio di Geroboamo,
2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, "Arise, and disguise yourself, that it be not known that you are the wife of Jeroboam, and go to Shiloh; behold, Ahijah the prophet is there, who said of me that I should be king over this people.	2 Geroboamo disse a sua moglie: « Su, cambia vestito, per non esser conosciuta come moglie di Geroboamo, e va a Silo, dov'è Ahia, il profeta che mi predisse di dover io regnare sopra questo popolo.
3 Take with you ten loaves, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him; he will tell you what shall happen to the child."	3 Prendi anche dieci pani e una focaccia, un vaso di miele, e va a trovarlo perchè egli ti dirà ciò che avverrà al fanciullo ».
4 Jeroboam's wife did so; she arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were dim because of his age.	4 La moglie di Geroboamo fece come egli aveva detto, e, levatasi, andò a Silo, nella casa di Ahia, il quale non poteva vedere, perchè gli si erano ottenebrati gli occhi dalla vecchiaia.
5 And the LORD said to Ahijah, "Behold, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to inquire of you concerning her son; for he is sick. Thus and thus shall you say to her." When she came, she pretended to be another woman.	5 Ma il Signore disse ad Ahia: « Ecco, la moglie di Geroboamo viene a consultarti riguardo al suo figlio che è ammalato: tu le dirai questo e questo ». Or mentre essa entrava, dissimulando il suo essere,
6 But when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, he said, "Come in, wife of Jeroboam; why do you pretend to be another? For I am charged with heavy tidings for you.	6 Ahia, sentito il rumore dei piedi di lei che entrava per la porta, disse: « Entra pure, o moglie di Geroboamo; perchè fingi di essere un'altra? 7 Go, tell Jeroboam, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: "Because I exalted you from among the people, and made you leader over my people Israel,	7 Va a dire a Geroboamo: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Io ti ho esaltato di mezzo al popolo, ti ho fatto capo del mio popolo d'Israele;
8 and tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you; and yet you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments, and followed me with all his heart, doing only that which was right in my eyes,	8 ho lacerato il regno della casa di David per darlo a te; ma tu non sei stato come il mio servo David il quale osservò i miei comandamenti, e mi seguì con tutto il suo cuore, facendo quello che era retto davanti a me;
9 but you have done evil above all that were before you and have gone and made for yourself other gods, and molten images, provoking me to anger, and have cast me behind your back;	9 tu hai fatto il male più di tutti quelli che furono prima di te, ti sei fatto degli dèi stranieri e di getto, per provocarmi a sdegno, e m'hai gettato dietro le spalle.
10 therefore behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam every male, both bond and free in Israel, and will utterly consume the house of Jeroboam, as a man burns up dung until it is all gone.	10 Per questo, ecco io farò piombare dei mali sopra la casa di Geroboamo e della casa di Geroboamo colpirò ogni maschio e chi è rinchiuso, e chi è l'ultimo in Israele, e spazzerò gli avanzi della casa di Geroboamo come si suole spazzare lo sterco, fino a che non è tolto tutto il sudiciume;
11 Any one belonging to Jeroboam who dies in the city the dogs shall eat; and any one who dies in the open country the birds of the air shall eat; for the LORD has spoken it."'	11 quelli di Geroboamo, se morranno in città, saran mangiati dai cani, se morranno in campagna, saran divorati dagli uccelli del cielo; perchè il Signore ha parlato.
12 Arise therefore, go to your house. When your feet enter the city, the child shall die.	12 Or tu levati e vattene a casa tua: appena metterai i piedi in città, morrà il fanciullo;
13 And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found something pleasing to the LORD, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.	13 tutto Israele lo piangerà e gli darà sepoltura; e lui solo, della stirpe di Geroboamo, sarà messo in un sepolcro; perchè in lui solo nella casa di Geroboamo, dal Signore Dio d'Israele fu trovato del bene.
14 Moreover the LORD will raise up for himself a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam today. And henceforth	14 Il Signore costituirà sopra Israele un re che percuoterà la casa di Geroboamo nel giorno e nel tempo prefisso.
15 the LORD will smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers, and scatter them beyond the Euphrates, because they have made their Asherim, provoking the LORD to anger.	15 Inoltre il Signore Dio colpirà Israele come canna agitata dal vento nell'acqua, sradicherà Israele da questa buona terra che diede ai loro padri, e li disperderà al di là del fiume, perchè hanno irritato il Signore col farsi dei boschetti sacri.
16 And he will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and which he made Israel to sin."	16 Il Signore abbandonerà Israele per i peccati di Geroboamo, che peccò e fece peccare Israele ».
17 Then Jeroboam's wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah. And as she came to the threshold of the house, the child died.	17 La moglie di Geroboamo si levò, se ne andò, ma giunta in Tersa, mentre essa metteva il piede sulla soglia di casa, morì il fanciullo.
18 And all Israel buried him and mourned for him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the prophet.	18 Lo seppellirono, e tutto Israele lo pianse, secondo la parola del Signore, da lui detta per mezzo del suo servo Ahia profeta.
19 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.	19 Il resto degli atti di Geroboamo, come abbia egli combattuto e regnato, è scritto nel libro delle cronache dei re d'Israele.
20 And the time that Jeroboam reigned was twenty-two years; and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.	20 Il tempo che regnò Geroboamo fu di ventidue anni, poi si addormentò coi suoi padri e gli successe nel regno il suo figlio Nadab.
21 Now Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.	21 Roboamo, figlio di Salomone, regnò in Giuda. Egli aveva quarant'un anno quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò diciassette anni in Gerusalemme, città eletta dal Signore fra tutte le tribù d'Israele per mettervi il suo nome. Sua madre si chiamava Naama l'Ammonita.
22 And Judah did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, more than all that their fathers had done.	22 Anche Giuda fece il male nel cospetto del Signore; essi lo irritaron più di quello che avessero fatto i loro padri colle loro opere perverse;
23 For they also built for themselves high places, and pillars, and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree;	23 perchè anch'essi si eressero altari e statue e boschetti sacri sopra ogni collina elevata e sotto ogni albero frondoso.
24 and there were also male cult prostitutes in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.	24 Si ebbero nel paese anche gli effeminati. Essi fecero tutte le abbominazioni delle genti che il Signore aveva distrutte davanti alla faccia dei figli d'Israele.
25 In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem;	25 Il quinto anno del regno di Roboamo, Sesac re d'Egitto salì contro Gerusalemme,
26 he took away the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the king's house; he took away everything. He also took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made;	26 e prese i tesori della casa del Signore, i tesori del re, e depredò ogni cosa, anche gli scudi d'oro fatti da Salomone.
27 and King Rehoboam made in their stead shields of bronze, and committed them to the hands of the officers of the guard, who kept the door of the king's house.	27 In luogo di questi, il re Roboamo fece degli scudi di bronzo, e li diede ai capi delle guardie, e a quelli che vegliavano dinanzi alla porta della casa del re.
28 And as often as the king went into the house of the LORD, the guard bore them and brought them back to the guardroom.	28 Quando il re entrava nella casa del Signore, quelli che avevan l'ufficio di precederlo li portavano, e poi li riportavano nella sala delle armi delle guardie.
29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?	29 Il resto degli atti di Roboamo e tutto quello che fece, ecco sta scritto nel libro delle cronache dei re di Giuda.
30 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.	30 Roboamo e Geroboamo furon in continua guerra.
31 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his stead.	31 Roboamo si addormentò coi suoi padri e fu sepolto con essi nella città di David. La sua madre si chiamava Naama l'Ammonita. Gli successe nel regno Abiam suo figlio.
