1 There was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David; and David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul became weaker and weaker.	1 Fu adunque lungo contrasto tra la casa di Saul, e la casa di David. David andava sempre avanti, e si faceva più forte, e la casa di Saul andava ogni dì in decadenza.
2 And sons were born to David at Hebron: his first-born was Amnon, of Ahino-am of Jezreel;	2 E nacquero a David dei figliuoli in Hebron: e suo primogenito fu Ammon nato ad Achinoam di Jezrael.
3 and his second, Chile-ab, of Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;	3 E dopo di lui Cheleab figliuolo di Abigail vedova di Nabal del Carmelo: il terzo Absalom figliuolo di Maacha, che era figlia di Tholmai re di Gessur.
4 and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;	4 E il quarto Adonia figliuolo di Haggith: e il quinto Saphathia figliuolo di Abital.
5 and the sixth, Ithre-am, of Eglah, David's wife. These were born to David in Hebron.	5 Il sesto Jethraam figliuolo di Egla moglie di David: Questi nacquero a David in Hebron.
6 While there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, Abner was making himself strong in the house of Saul.	6 Durando adunque la guerra tra la casa di Saul, e la casa di David, Abner figliuolo di Ner reggeva la casa di Saul.
7 Now Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah; and Ish-bosheth said to Abner, "Why have you gone in to my father's concubine?"	7 Or Saul avea avuta una concubina per nome Respha figliuola di Aja. E disse Isboseth ad Abner:
8 Then Abner was very angry over the words of Ish-bosheth, and said, "Am I a dog's head of Judah? This day I keep showing loyalty to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not given you into the hand of David; and yet you charge me today with a fault concerning a woman.	8 Perchè se' tu andato a trovare la concubina del padre mio? Ma quegli sdegnato sommamente per le parole di Isboseth, disse: Non son io una testa di cane riguardo a Giuda, perchè oggi ho usato misericordia verso la casa di Saul tuo padre, e verso i suoi fratelli, e parenti, e non ho data la tua persona nelle mani di David, e tu oggi se' andato a cercare, onde accusarmi per ragion d'una donna?
9 God do so to Abner, and more also, if I do not accomplish for David what the LORD has sworn to him,	9 Iddio faccia questo e peggio ad Abner, se io non farò in vantaggio di David quello che il Signore ha promesso a lui con giuramento,
10 to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul, and set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan to Beer-sheba."	10 Che sia trasferito il regno dalla casa di Saul, e che il trono di David s'innalzi sopra Israele, e sopra Giuda, da Dan fino a Bersabee.
11 And Ish-bosheth could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him.	11 E quegli non fiatò più, perchè avea paura di lui.
12 And Abner sent messengers to David at Hebron, saying, "To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and behold, my hand shall be with you to bring over all Israel to you."	12 Ma Abner spedì messi a David, che in suo nome gli dicessero: A chi appartiene (tutto) il paese? E soggiungessero: Fa amistà con me, e le mie forze saranno per te, e io riunirò teco tutto Israele.
13 And he said, "Good; I will make a covenant with you; but one thing I require of you; that is, you shall not see my face, unless you first bring Michal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see my face."	13 Rispose David: Benissimo: io faro teco amistà: una sola cosa ti chieggo, e dico che tu non vedrai la mia faccia, prima che abbi condotta a me Michol figliuola di Saul: allora verrai, e mi vedrai.
14 Then David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth Saul's son, saying, "Give me my wife Michal, whom I betrothed at the price of a hundred foreskins of the Philistines."	14 E David spedì messi ad Isboseth figliuolo di Saul per dire a lui: Rendimi Michol mia moglie, di cui comperai le nozze col prezzo di cento Filistei.
15 And Ish-bosheth sent, and took her from her husband Palti-el the son of Laish.	15 Allora Isboseth mandò gente, che la tolse al suo marito Phatiel figliuolo di Lais.
16 But her husband went with her, weeping after her all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, "Go, return"; and he returned.	16 E suo marito le tenne dietro piangendo fino a Bahurim: e Abner disse a lui: Vanne e torna indietro. Ed egli se ne andò.
17 And Abner conferred with the elders of Israel, saying, "For some time past you have been seeking David as king over you.	17 Prese eziandio Abner a trattare co' seniori d’Israele, a' quali diceva: Voi già desideravate di aver Davidde per re.
18 Now then bring it about; for the LORD has promised David, saying, 'By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines, and from the hand of all their enemies.'"	18 Fatelo dunque adesso: perocché il Signore ha parlato e ha detto di Davidde: Io salverò per mano di David mio servo il popolo mio d'Israele dalle mani de’ Filistei, e di tutti i suoi nemici.
19 Abner also spoke to Benjamin; and then Abner went to tell David at Hebron all that Israel and the whole house of Benjamin thought good to do.	19 Indi Abner parlò anche con que’ di Beniamin. E se n'andò in Hebron per riportare a David tutto quello, onde era convenuto con Israele, con tutto Beniamin.
20 When Abner came with twenty men to David at Hebron, David made a feast for Abner and the men who were with him.	20 E giunse presso David in Hebron con venti persone. E David fece un banchetto ad Abner, e alla sua gente venuta con lui.
21 And Abner said to David, "I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your heart desires." So David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.	21 E Abner disse a David: Io parto per andar e a riunir teco, signor mio re, tutto Israele, e far teco alleanza, onde tu comandi a tutti come desideri. Ma quando Davidde ebbe accompagnato Abner, e questi si fu partito contento,
22 Just then the servants of David arrived with Joab from a raid, bringing much spoil with them. But Abner was not with David at Hebron, for he had sent him away, and he had gone in peace.	22 Immediatamente sopraggiunse Gioab, e la gente di David la quale avendo trucidato i ladroni, portava grandissima preda. Or Abner non era più con David in Hebron, perchè questi lo avea licenziato, ed egli era partito contento.
23 When Joab and all the army that was with him came, it was told Joab, "Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he has let him go, and he has gone in peace."	23 E poi arrivò Gioab, e tutto l’esercito che era con lui: e vi fu chi diede a Gioab questa nuova, e disse: Abner figliuolo di Ner è stato a trovare il re: e questi lo ha licenziato, ed egli se n'è andato in pace.
24 Then Joab went to the king and said, "What have you done? Behold, Abner came to you; why is it that you have sent him away, so that he is gone?	24 Or Gioab andò dal re, e gli disse: Che hai tu fatto? Poco fa è venuto Abner a te: perchè lo hai tu rimandato, ed egli se n’è andato, e l'ha scampata?
25 You know that Abner the son of Ner came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you are doing."	25 Non conosci tu Abner figliuolo di Ner, il quale non è venuto a te, se non per ingannarti, e spiare tutti i tuoi andamenti, e sapere tutto quel che tu fai?
26 When Joab came out from David's presence, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the cistern of Sirah; but David did not know about it.	26 Indi Gioab lasciò David, e spedì gente dietro ad Abner, e lo fece ritornare dalla cisterna di Sira senza saputa di David.
27 And when Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him privately, and there he smote him in the belly, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.	27 E allorchè Abner fu giunto di nuovo ad Hebron, Gioab lo condusse seco nel mezzo della porta per parlargli, volendo tradirlo: e ivi lo ferì nell’anguinaia, e lo uccise per far vendetta del sangue di Asael suo fratello.
28 Afterward, when David heard of it, he said, "I and my kingdom are for ever guiltless before the LORD for the blood of Abner the son of Ner.	28 Ma David avendo udito quel che era avvenuto, disse: Sonò mondo per sempre io, e il mio regno dinanzi al Signore dal sangue di Abner figliuolo di Ner.
29 May it fall upon the head of Joab, and upon all his father's house; and may the house of Joab never be without one who has a discharge, or who is leprous, or who holds a spindle, or who is slain by the sword, or who lacks bread!"	29 E (il sangue di lui) cada sopra la testa di Gioab, e sopra tutta la casa del padre di lui e non manchi giammai nella casa di Gioab chi patisca di gonorrea, chi sia coperto di lebbra, e chi maneggi il fuso, e chi perisca di spada, e chi manchi di pane.
30 So Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel in the battle at Gibeon.	30 Gioab adunque, e Abisai suo fratello uccisero Abner, perchè questi avea ucciso Asael loro fratello nella battaglia a Gabaon.
31 Then David said to Joab and to all the people who were with him, "Rend your clothes, and gird on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner." And King David followed the bier.	31 Ma David disse a Gioab, e a tutto il popolo che era con lui: Stracciate le vostre vesti, e cingetevi di sacco, e menate duolo nei funerali di Abner: e il re David andò dietro alla bara.
32 They buried Abner at Hebron; and the king lifted up his voice and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.	32 E seppellito che ebbero Abner in Hebron, il re Davidde alzò la voce, e pianse al sepolcro di Abner, e tutto il popolo pianse egualmente.
33 And the king lamented for Abner, saying, "Should Abner die as a fool dies?	33 E il re addolorato per causa di Abner, disse: Non è morto Abner, come sogliono i vili.
34 Your hands were not bound, your feet were not fettered; as one falls before the wicked you have fallen." And all the people wept again over him.	34 Le tue mani non sono state legate, e non sono stati messi in ceppi i tuoi piedi; ma se’ caduto, come si cade dinanzi a' figliuoli d’iniquità. E tutto il popolo ripetendo pianse sopra di lui.
35 Then all the people came to persuade David to eat bread while it was yet day; but David swore, saying, "God do so to me and more also, if I taste bread or anything else till the sun goes down!"	35 Ed essendo andata tutta la gente per prender cibo con David, essendo ancora giorno, giurò David, e disse: Iddio faccia a me questo e peggio, se prima del tramontare del sole io assaggerò pane, o alcun'altra cosa.
36 And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them; as everything that the king did pleased all the people.	36 E tutto il popolo udì questo, e furono grate nel cospetto di tutto il popolo tutte le cose che il re avea fatte:
37 So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it had not been the king's will to slay Abner the son of Ner.	37 E tutta la plebe, e tutto Israele riconobbe in quel dì, come il re non avea cooperato alla morte di Abner figliuolo di Ner.
38 And the king said to his servants, "Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?	38 E il re disse a' suoi servi: Non sapete voi forse che è oggi perito in Israele un principe, e anche grandissimo?
39 And I am this day weak, though anointed king; these men the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me. The LORD requite the evildoer according to his wickedness!"	39 E io sono tuttora debole, benché unto re, ma questi figliuoli di Sarvia son crudi con me. Renda il Signore a chi mal fa a proporzione di sua malizia.
