1 In the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Ched-or-laomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim,	1 Al tempo di Amrafel re di Sennaar, di Arioch re di Ellasar, di Chedorlahomer re dell’Elam, e di Tideal re delle nazioni.
2 these kings made war with Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).	2 costoro fecero una guerra contro Bara re di Sodoma, Birsha re di Gomorra, Shineab re di Adma, Shemeber re di Zeboim, e contro il re di Bela, chiamata anche Zoar.
3 And all these joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).	3 Tutti questi si coalizzarono nella valle di Siddim che è il Mare Salato.
4 Twelve years they had served Ched-or-laomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.	4 Per dodici anni essi erano stati sottomessi a Chedorlahomer, ma il decimoterzo anno si erano ribellati.
5 In the fourteenth year Ched-or-laomer and the kings who were with him came and subdued the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,	5 Nell’anno decimoquarto arrivarono Chedorlahomer e i re che erano con lui e sconfissero i Refaim ad Ashtarot-Karnaim, gli Zuzim ad Ham, gli Emim a Shave-Kiriataim
6 and the Horites in their Mount Seir as far as El-paran on the border of the wilderness;	6 e i Khorrei nelle montagne di Seir fino a El-Paran che è il deserto.
7 then they turned back and came to Enmishpat (that is, Kadesh), and subdued all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who dwelt in Hazazon-tamar.	7 Poi mutarono direzione, vennero alla fonte del Giudizio che è Kadesh, e sconfissero tutto il territorio degli Amaleciti e anche gli Amorrei che abitavano in Khazazon-Tamar.
8 Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out, and they joined battle in the Valley of Siddim	8 Allora il re di Sodoma, il re di Gomorra, il re di Adma, il re di Zeboim e il re di Bela, chiamata anche Zoar, uscirono e si schierarono in ordine di battaglia contro di essi nella valle di Siddim,
9 with Ched-or-laomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar, four kings against five.	9 e cioè contro Chedorlahomer re dell’Elam, Tideal re delle nazioni, Amrafel re di Sennaar e Arioch re di Ellasar: quattro re contro cinque.
10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of bitumen pits; and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some fell into them, and the rest fled to the mountain.	10 Ora la valle di Siddim era un seguito di pozzi di bitume; messi in fuga, il re di Sodoma e il re di Gomorra vi caddero dentro e i superstiti fuggirono sulla montagna.
11 So the enemy took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and went their way;	11 I nemici presero tutti i beni di Sodoma e Gomorra e tutti i loro viveri e se ne andarono.
12 they also took Lot, the son of Abram's brother, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.	12 Ma, andandosene, presero anche Lot, figlio del fratello di Abramo; e i suoi beni: egli abitava appunto a Sodoma.
13 Then one who had escaped came, and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and of Aner; these were allies of Abram.	13 Ma un fuggiasco venne ad avvertire Abramo l’Ebreo mentre si trovava alla quercia di Mambre l’Amorreo, fratello di Shchol e di Aner: questi erano alleati di Abramo.
14 When Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen of them, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.	14 Quando Abramo udì ché il congiunto suo era stato condotto via prigioniero, organizzò i suoi uomini esperti nelle armi, schiavi che erano nati nella sua casa, in numero di trecentodiciotto, e diresse l’inseguimento fino a Dan.
15 And he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and routed them and pursued them to Hobah, north of Damascus.	15 Diviso il contingente in due schiere, lui con i suoi schiavi piombò sopra di essi di notte, li sconfisse e proseguì l’inseguimento fino a Khoba che è a settentrione di Damasco.
16 Then he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his kinsman Lot with his goods, and the women and the people.	16 Ricuperò così tutti i beni e ricuperò anche Lot con i beni, le donne e il popolo.
17 After his return from the defeat of Ched-or-laomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley).	17 Quando Abramo fu di ritorno, dopo la sconfitta di Chedorlahomer e dei re che erano con questo, il re di Sodoma gli uscì incontro nella valle di Shave, chiamata anche la valle del Re.
18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was priest of God Most High.	18 Intanto Melchizedek, re di Salem, offrì pane e vino, poiché era sacerdote di Dio l'Altissimo.
19 And he blessed him and said, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, maker of heaven and earth;	19 E lo benedisse con queste parole: «Sia benedetto Abramo da Dio l’Altissimo, creatore del cielo e della terra,
20 and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!" And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.	20 e benedetto sia Dio l’Altissimo che ti ha messo nelle mani i tuoi nemici». E Abramo gli diede la decima di tutto.
21 And the king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the persons, but take the goods for yourself."	21 Poi il re di Sodoma disse ad Abramo: «Dammi le persone e prendi pure i beni per te».
22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have sworn to the LORD God Most High, maker of heaven and earth,	22 Ma Abramo disse al re di Sodoma: «Alzo la mano davanti a Jahvè Dio l’Altissimo, creatore del cielo e della terra:
23 that I would not take a thread or a sandal-thong or anything that is yours, lest you should say, 'I have made Abram rich.'	23 né un filo né una correggia di calzare, niente io prenderò di ciò che è tuo; non potrai dire: “lo ho arricchito Abramo!”.
24 I will take nothing but what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me; let Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre take their share."	24 lo non c’entro! Soltanto ciò che i giovani hanno consumato e la parte spettante agli uomini che sono venuti con me, Aner, Eshchlol e Mambre... Essi sì riceveranno la loro parte».
