Prima lettera di Giovanni 5

1 - Chiunque crede che Gesù è il Cristo, è nato da Dio. E chiunque ama Colui che lo generò, ama anche colui che è nato da esso.	1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God, and everyone who loves the father loves (also) the one begotten by him.
2 Da questo conosciamo che amiamo i figliuoli di Dio, se amiamo Dio e osserviamo i suoi comandamenti.	2 In this way we know that we love the children of God when we love God and obey his commandments.
3 Poichè questo è amare Dio, che noi osserviamo i suoi comandamenti; e i suoi comandamenti non sono gravosi.	3 For the love of God is this, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,
4 Poichè tutto quello che è nato da Dio, vince il mondo, e questa è la vittoria che vince il mondo, la fede nostra.	4 for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.
5 Chi è che vince il mondo, se non colui che crede che Gesù è il Figliuolo di Dio?	5 Who (indeed) is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 Questi è colui che è venuto con l'acqua e con il sangue, Gesù Cristo; non con l'acqua solo, ma con l'acqua e con il sangue. E lo spirito è quello che attesta che Cristo è verità.	6 This is the one who came through water and blood, Jesus Christ, not by water alone, but by water and blood. The Spirit is the one that testifies, and the Spirit is truth.
7 Poichè sono tre che rendono testimonianza in cielo: il Padre, il Verbo e lo Spirito Santo; e questi tre sono una cosa sola.	7 So there are three that testify,
8 E sono tre che rendono testimonianza in terra: lo spirito, l'acqua e il sangue; e questi tre sono una cosa sola.	8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood, and the three are of one accord.
9 Se accettiamo la testimonianza degli uomini, la testimonianza di Dio è maggiore. Ora la testimonianza di Dio, che è maggiore è questa che Egli ha reso al suo Figliuolo.	9 If we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is surely greater. Now the testimony of God is this, that he has testified on behalf of his Son.
10 Chi crede nel Figliuol di Dio, ha in sè la testimonianza di Dio. Chi non crede al Figliuolo, tiene Dio per bugiardo, perchè non crede alla testimonianza che Dio ha reso al suo Figliuolo.	10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar by not believing the testimony God has given about his Son.
11 E la testimonianza è questa: che Dio ci ha dato la vita eterna. E questa vita è nel suo figliuolo.	11 And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 Chi ha il Figliuolo ha la vita; chi non ha il Figliuolo non ha la vita.	12 Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life.
13 Vi scrivo queste cose, affinchè sappiate che avete la vita eterna voi, che credete nel nome del Figliuol di Dio.	13 I write these things to you so that you may know that you have eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God.
14 E questa è la fiducia che noi abbiamo in Lui; che qualunque cosa chiederemo secondo la sua volontà, Egli ci esaudisce.	14 And we have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
15 E sappiamo che ci esaudisce, qualunque cosa gli chiediamo; lo sappiamo perchè abbiamo l'effetto delle richieste a Lui fatte.	15 And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours.
16 Chi sa che il proprio fratello commette un peccato che non conduce a morte, chieda e sarà data la vita a quello che pecca non a morte. Vi è un peccato a morte: non dico che uno preghi per questo.	16 If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray.
17 Ogni iniquità è peccato; e vi è peccato a morte.	17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly.
18 Sappiamo che chiunque è nato da Dio, non pecca; ma la divina generazione lo conserva e il maligno non lo tocca.	18 We know that no one begotten by God sins; but the one begotten by God he protects, and the evil one cannot touch him.
19 Sappiamo che siamo [nati] da Dio: e tutto il mondo sta sotto al maligno.	19 We know that we belong to God, and the whole world is under the power of the evil one.
20 E sappiamo che il Figliuol di Dio è venuto e ci ha dato la mente per conoscere il vero Dio, e siamo nel vero suo Figliuolo. Questi è il vero Dio e la vita eterna.	20 We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us discernment to know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
21 Figliuolini, guardatevi dagli idoli! Amen.	21 Children, be on your guard against idols.
