1 Then all the troops of the Philistines were gathered together at Aphek. But Israel also made camp, above the spring which is in Jezreel.	1 Toutes les troupes des Philistins s'assemblèrent donc à Aphec, et Israël vint camper près de la fontaine de Jezraël.
2 And indeed, the princes of the Philistines advanced by hundreds and by thousands; but David and his men were in the rear with Achish.	2 Les princes des Philistins marchaient avec leurs bataillons de cent hommes et de mille hommes; et David, accompagné de ses gens, était à l'arrière-garde avec Achis.
3 And the leaders of the Philistines said to Achish, “What do these Hebrews intend to do?” And Achish said to the leaders of the Philistines: “Could you be ignorant about David, who was the servant of Saul, the king of Israel, and who has been with me for many days, even years, and I have not found within him anything, from the day that he fled to me, even to this day?”	3 Alors les princes des Philistins dirent à Achis: Que font ici ces Hébreux? Achis répondit aux princes des Philistins: Ne connaissez-vous pas David, qui a été serviteur de Saül, roi d'Israël? Il est avec moi depuis plus d'un an, et je n'ai rien trouvé à redire en lui depuis le jour où il s'est réfugié chez moi jusqu'à présent.
4 Then the leaders of the Philistines became angry against him, and they said to him: “Let this man return, and let him settle in his place, which you appointed for him. But let him not descend with us to battle, lest he become an adversary to us when we begin to fight. For in what other way will he be able to please his lord, except with our heads?	4 Mais les princes des Philistins s'irritèrent contre lui, et lui dirent: Que cet homme-là s'en retourne, qu'il demeure au lieu où vous l'avez mis, et qu'il ne se trouve point avec nous à la bataille, de peur qu'il ne se tourne contre nous quand nous aurons commencé à combattre. Car comment pourra-t-il apaiser autrement son maître que par notre sang?
5 Is not this the David, about whom they were singing, while dancing, saying: ‘Saul struck down his thousands, but David his ten thousands?’ ”	5 N'est-ce pas là ce David, auquel on chantait en choeurs: Saül en a tué mille, et David dix mille?
6 Therefore, Achish called David, and he said to him: “As the Lord lives, you are good and righteous in my sight, even in your departure and your return with me in the military camp. And I have not found anything evil in you, from the day that you came to me, even to this day. But you are not pleasing to the princes.	6 Achis appela donc David, et lui dit: Je vous jure par le Seigneur qu'à mes yeux vous êtes droit et bon, et que j'approuve toutes vos démarches dans mon camp; je n'ai rien trouvé de mauvais en vous, depuis le jour où vous êtes venu auprès de moi jusqu'à maintenant; mais vous n'agréez pas aux princes.
7 Therefore, return, and go in peace, so that you do not offend the eyes of the princes of the Philistines.”	7 Retournez-vous-en donc, et allez en paix; afin que vous ne blessiez point les yeux des princes des Philistins.
8 And David said to Achish, “But what have I done, or what have you found in me, your servant, from the day that I was in your sight to this day, so that I may not go out and fight against the enemies of my lord, the king?”	8 David dit à Achis: Qu'ai-je donc fait, et qu'avez-vous trouvé en moi, votre serviteur, depuis le temps où j'ai paru devant vous jusqu'à ce jour, pour m'interdire d'aller avec vous, et de combattre contre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi?
9 And in response, Achish said to David: “I know that you are good in my sight, like an angel of God. But the leaders of the Philistines have said: ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’	9 Achis répondit à David: Il est vrai que pour moi je vous estime comme un ange de Dieu; mais les princes des Philistins ont dit: Il n'ira pas avec nous au combat.
10 And so, rise up in the morning, you and the servants of your lord who came with you. And when you have risen up in the night, as it begins to be light, go forth.”	10 C'est pourquoi tenez-vous prêts dès le matin, vous et les serviteurs de votre maître qui sont venus avec vous; levez-vous la nuit, et partez dès que le jour commencera à paraître.
11 And so David rose up in the night, he and his men, so that they might set out in the morning. And they returned to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines ascended to Jezreel.	11 Ainsi David se leva avec ses gens pendant la nuit, pour partir dès le matin, et pour retourner au pays des Philistins; et les Philistins montèrent à Jezraël.
