1 Then all the troops of the Philistines were gathered together at Aphek. But Israel also made camp, above the spring which is in Jezreel.	1 Les Philistins rassemblèrent toutes leurs troupes à Afek, tandis que les Israélites campaient à côté de la source qui se trouve dans la plaine de Yizréel.
2 And indeed, the princes of the Philistines advanced by hundreds and by thousands; but David and his men were in the rear with Achish.	2 Les chefs des Philistins défilaient avec leurs groupes de cent et de mille; David et ses hommes étaient à l’arrière-garde avec Akich.
3 And the leaders of the Philistines said to Achish, “What do these Hebrews intend to do?” And Achish said to the leaders of the Philistines: “Could you be ignorant about David, who was the servant of Saul, the king of Israel, and who has been with me for many days, even years, and I have not found within him anything, from the day that he fled to me, even to this day?”	3 Les chefs des Philistins demandèrent à Akich: “Qui sont ces Hébreux?” Akich leur répondit: “Mais c’est David, le serviteur de Saül, roi d’Israël. Depuis longtemps, deux ans peut-être, il est chez moi, et je n’ai jamais eu à me plaindre de lui depuis qu’il est passé de mon côté.”
4 Then the leaders of the Philistines became angry against him, and they said to him: “Let this man return, and let him settle in his place, which you appointed for him. But let him not descend with us to battle, lest he become an adversary to us when we begin to fight. For in what other way will he be able to please his lord, except with our heads?	4 Les chefs des Philistins se mirent en colère contre Akich, ils lui dirent: “Renvoie cet homme, et qu’il retourne d’où il vient! Qu’il ne vienne pas avec nous à la bataille, il pourrait bien se retourner contre nous. Comment pourrait-il acheter le pardon de son maître, sinon avec les têtes de nos hommes?
5 Is not this the David, about whom they were singing, while dancing, saying: ‘Saul struck down his thousands, but David his ten thousands?’ ”	5 N’est-ce pas à propos de ce David que l’on dansait en chantant: Saül en a tué mille, mais David en a tué dix mille?”
6 Therefore, Achish called David, and he said to him: “As the Lord lives, you are good and righteous in my sight, even in your departure and your return with me in the military camp. And I have not found anything evil in you, from the day that you came to me, even to this day. But you are not pleasing to the princes.	6 Akich appela donc David et lui dit: “Aussi vrai que Yahvé est vivant, tu es un homme droit. Pour ma part, je suis heureux que tu sois ici avec moi, car tu n’as mérité aucun reproche depuis que tu es arrivé jusqu’à maintenant, mais tu es très mal vu des chefs.
7 Therefore, return, and go in peace, so that you do not offend the eyes of the princes of the Philistines.”	7 Retourne donc, va-t’en en paix et n’indisposons pas les chefs des Philistins.”
8 And David said to Achish, “But what have I done, or what have you found in me, your servant, from the day that I was in your sight to this day, so that I may not go out and fight against the enemies of my lord, the king?”	8 David dit à Akich: “Qu’ai-je donc fait? Qu’as-tu à reprocher à ton serviteur depuis que je suis venu jusqu’à maintenant, pour que tu me refuses de combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi?”
9 And in response, Achish said to David: “I know that you are good in my sight, like an angel of God. But the leaders of the Philistines have said: ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’	9 Akich répondit à David: “Je le sais, tu es aussi sûr pour nous qu’un ange de Dieu, mais les chefs des Philistins ont décidé que tu ne viendrais pas avec nous à la bataille.
10 And so, rise up in the morning, you and the servants of your lord who came with you. And when you have risen up in the night, as it begins to be light, go forth.”	10 Levez-vous donc de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton maître qui sont venus avec toi, et retournez à l’endroit que je vous ai assigné. Ne le prends pas mal, tu sais que je t’estime. Demain matin vous vous lèverez tôt, et dès que le jour se lèvera vous partirez.”
11 And so David rose up in the night, he and his men, so that they might set out in the morning. And they returned to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines ascended to Jezreel.	11 David et ses hommes se levèrent donc de bonne heure; dès le matin ils repartirent pour le pays des Philistins; quant aux Philistins, ils montèrent vers Yizréel.
