Ephesians 5

1 Therefore, as most beloved sons, be imitators of God.	1 Siate, dunque, imitatori di Dio quali figli diletti e camminate nella carità;
2 And walk in love, just as Christ also loved us and delivered himself for us, as an oblation and a sacrifice to God, with a fragrance of sweetness.	2 come anche Cristo ha amato voi e ha dato se stesso peri noi quale offerta e sacrificio di buon odore a Dio.
3 But let not any kind of fornication, or impurity, or rapacity so much as be named among you, just as is worthy of the saints,	3 Fornicazione poi e impurità di qualunque specie o avarizia neppure si nominino tra di voi, come conviene a santi;
4 nor any indecent, or foolish, or abusive talk, for this is without purpose; but instead, give thanks.	4 né turpitudine, stolto parlare o o scurrilità: tutte cose che non convengono;
5 For know and understand this: no one who is a fornicator, or lustful, or rapacious (for these are a kind of service to idols) holds an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.	5 sì senta al contrario rendimento di grazie. Poiché sappiatelo bene, nessun fornicatore o impuro p avaro — che è quanto dire idolatra — ha diritto d’eredità nel regno di Cristo e di Dio.
6 Let no one seduce you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God was sent upon the sons of unbelief.	6 Nessuno v’inganni con vani ragionamenti: proprio a cagione di questi vizi scende l'ira di Dio sui disobbedienti.
7 Therefore, do not choose to become participants with them.	7 Non abbiate, dunque, niente di comune con loro!
8 For you were darkness, in times past, but now you are light, in the Lord. So then, walk as sons of the light.	8 Eravate un tempo tenebre; ora invece siete luce nel Signore: portatevi da figli della luce —
9 For the fruit of the light is in all goodness and justice and truth,	9 frutto della luce è tutto ciò che è buono, giusto e vero —
10 affirming what is well-pleasing to God.	10 e scrutate che cosa sia accetto al Signore
11 And so, have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead, refute them.	11 e non abbiate parte allèé opere infruttuose delle tenebre, ma piuttosto redarguitele apertamente.
12 For the things that are done by them in secret are shameful, even to mention.	12 Le cose, infatti, che coloro compiono in occulto è vergogna perfino dirle.
13 But all things that are disputed are made manifest by the light. For all that is made manifest is light.	13 Ma tutte le cose che vengono redarguite appaiono in piena luce: tutto ciò, infatti, che si rende manifesto è luce.
14 Because of this, it is said: “You who are sleeping: awaken, and rise up from the dead, and so shall the Christ enlighten you.”	14 Per questo dice: «Svegliati, o tu che dormi, e sorgi di tra i morti, e su te risplenderà Cristo».
15 And so, brothers, see to it that you walk cautiously, not like the foolish,	15 Osservate pertanto, con molta attenzione, quale sia la vostra condotta, non da insipienti ma saggi,
16 but like the wise: atoning for this age, because this is an evil time.	16 approfittando bene del tempo presente, perché i giorni sono cattivi.
17 For this reason, do not choose to be imprudent. Instead, understand what is the will of God.	17 Non siate, perciò, disavveduti, ma cercate di comprendere quale sia la volontà del Signore.
18 And do not choose to be inebriated by wine, for this is self-indulgence. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,	18 Non v’inebbriate di vino, il quale causa lussuria; ma riempitevi dello Spirito,
19 speaking among yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual canticles, singing and reciting psalms to the Lord in your hearts,	19 recitando entro di voi salmi, inni e canti spirituali, cantando e salmodiando in cuor vostro al Signore,
20 giving thanks always for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God the Father.	20 rendendo grazie sempre e per tutte le cose nel nome del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo a Dio Padre.
21 Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.	21 Siate soggetti gli uni agli altri nel timore di Cristo.
22 Wives should be submissive to their husbands, as to the Lord.	22 Le mogli siano sottomesse ai propri mariti come al Signore;
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the Church. He is the Savior of his body.	23 poiché il marito è capo della moglie come il Cristo è capo della Chiesa: lui, il salvatore del Corpo.
24 Therefore, just as the Church is subject to Christ, so also should wives be subject to their husbands in all things.	24 Ora, come la Chiesa è sottomessa a Cristo, così. anche le mogli debbono sottomettersi in ogni cosa ai propri mariti.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the Church and handed himself over for her,	25 Mariti, amate le vostre mogli, come Cristo ha amato la sua Chiesa: egli ha dato se stesso per lei;
26 so that he might sanctify her, washing her clean by water and the Word of life,	26 per santificarla, purificandola col lavacro dell’acqua unito alla parola;
27 so that he might offer her to himself as a glorious Church, not having any spot or wrinkle or any such thing, so that she would be holy and immaculate.	27 volendo presentarla a se stesso; questa Chiesa, tutta splendente, che non avesse macchia o ruga o altra cosa del genere, ma fosse santa e senza alcun difetto.
28 So, too, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.	28 Così debbono anche i mariti amare le proprie mogli come i loro stessi corpi. Chi ama propria moglie ama se stesso.
29 For no man has ever hated his own flesh, but instead he nourishes and cherishes it, as Christ also does to the Church.	29 Nessuno, certo, odiò mai la propria carne; al contrario, ognuno la nutre e la cura, come anche Cristo fa con la Chiesa;
30 For we are a part of his body, of his flesh and of his bones.	30 giacchè noi siamo membra del suo corpo.
31 “For this reason, a man shall leave behind his father and mother, and he shall cling to his wife; and the two shall be as one flesh.”	31 Per questo l’uomo lascerà il padre e la madre e si unirà alla propria moglie, e saranno i due una carne sola.
32 This is a great Sacrament. And I am speaking in Christ and in the Church.	32 Questo mistero è grande: io lo dico in rapporto a Cristo e alla Chiesa.
33 Yet truly, each and every one of you should love his wife as himself. And a wife should fear her husband.	33 Peraltro, ciascuno ami la propria moglie, anche voi in particolare, come se stesso; la moglie poi rispetti il marito.
