1 Then six days before the Passover, Jesus went to Bethania, where Lazarus had died, whom Jesus raised up.	1 Gesù adunque, sei giorni prima di Pasqua, andò a Betania, dov'era Lazzaro, il morto che Gesù aveva risuscitato.
2 And they made a dinner for him there. And Martha was ministering. And truly, Lazarus was one of those who were sitting at table with him.	2 Ed ivi gli fecero una cena; e Marta serviva a tavola, Lazzaro poi era uno dei suoi commensali.
3 And then Mary took twelve ounces of pure spikenard ointment, very precious, and she anointed the feet of Jesus, and she wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.	3 Or Maria, presa una libbra d'unguento di nardo puro di gran pregio, unse i piedi di Gesù e glieli asciugò coi suoi capelli, e la casa fu ripiena del profumo dell'unguento.
4 Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was soon to betray him, said,	4 Disse allora uno dei suoi discepoli, Giuda Iscariote, il quale stava per tradirlo:
5 “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the needy?”	5 E perchè tal unguento non si è venduto per trecento danari e dato ai poveri?
6 Now he said this, not out of concern for the needy, but because he was a thief and, since he held the purse, he used to carry what was put into it.	6 Ciò disse, non perchè gl'importasse dei poveri, ma perchè era ladro, e, tenendo la borsa, portava via quel che ci mettevan dentro.
7 But Jesus said: “Permit her, so that she may keep it against the day of my burial.	7 Disse adunque Gesù: Lasciatela fare: e ciò le valga pel giorno della mia sepoltura.
8 For the poor, you have with you always. But me, you do always not have.”	8 Chè i poveri li avete sempre con voi, me però non sempre mi avrete.
9 Now a great multitude of the Jews knew that he was in that place, and so they came, not so much because of Jesus, but so that they might see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.	9 Or molta gente dei Giudei venne a sapere come Gesù fosse in Betania, e vi andarono non per Gesù soltanto, ma anche per vedere Lazzaro da lui risuscitato dai morti.
10 And the leaders of the priests planned to put Lazarus to death also.	10 Deliberarono allora i principi dei sacerdoti di ammazzare anche Lazzaro;
11 For many of the Jews, because of him, were going away and were believing in Jesus.	11 perchè molti per causa di lui abbandonavano i Giudei e credevano in Gesù.
12 Then, on the next day, the great crowd that had come to the feast day, when they had heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,	12 Il giorno dopo una gran folla, accorsa alla festa, avendo sentito che Gesù veniva a Gerusalemme,
13 took branches of palm trees, and they went ahead to meet him. And they were crying out: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who arrives in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel!”	13 prese dei rami di palma e andò ad incontrarlo, gridando: Osanna! Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore: il re d'Israele.
14 And Jesus found a small donkey, and he sat upon it, just as it is written:	14 E Gesù, trovato un asinello, vi montò sopra, come sta scritto:
15 “Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion. Behold, your king arrives, sitting on the colt of a donkey.”	15 Non temere, figlia di Sion: ecco viene il tuo re, seduto sopra un puledro d'asina.
16 At first, his disciples did not realize these things. But when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that these things happened to him.	16 Queste cose i suoi discepoli allora non le compresero; ma, glorificato che fu Gesù, si ricordarono che erano state scritte di lui, e che gli erano state fatte.
17 And so the crowd that had been with him, when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead, offered testimony.	17 E la folla che era con lui quando chiamò Lazzaro fuori del sepolcro e lo risuscitò dai morti, ne rendeva testimonianza.
18 Because of this, too, the crowd went out to meet him. For they heard that he had accomplished this sign.	18 Anche per questo gli andò incontro la furba, perchè aveva sentito che egli aveva fatto quel miracolo.
19 Therefore, the Pharisees said among themselves: “Do you see that we are accomplishing nothing? Behold, the entire world has gone after him.”	19 I Farisei allora dissero fra di loro: Vedete che non concludiamo nulla? Ecco, tutto il mondo gli va dietro. L'omaggio dei Gentili
20 Now there were certain Gentiles among those who went up so that they might worship on the feast day.	20 Or fra quelli accorsi ad adorare per la festa, v'erano alcuni dentili.
21 Therefore, these approached Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and they petitioned him, saying: “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”	21 Questi, accostatisi a Filippo, che era di Betsaida della Galilea, lo pregarono dicendo: Signore, desideriamo vedere Gesù.
22 Philip went and told Andrew. Next, Andrew and Philip told Jesus.	22 Filippo andò a dirlo ad Andrea, e Andrea e Filippo lo dissero a Gesù.
23 But Jesus answered them by saying: “The hour arrives when the Son of man shall be glorified.	23 E Gesù rispose loro: E' venuta l'ora nella quale deve essere glorificato il Figlio dell'uomo.
24 Amen, amen, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies,	24 In verità, in verità vi dico: se il granello di frumento caduto in terra non muore, rimane infecondo; se invece muore, produce molto frutto.
25 it remains alone. But if it dies, it yields much fruit. Whoever loves his life, will lose it. And whoever hates his life in this world, preserves it unto eternal life.	25 Chi ama la sua vita la perderà e chi odia la sua vita in questo mondo, la salverà per la vita eterna.
26 If anyone serves me, let him follow me. And where I am, there too my minister shall be. If anyone has served me, my Father will honor him.	26 Se uno mi vuol servire mi segua; e dove son io, ci sarà pure il mio servo. Se uno mi serve l'onorerà il Padre mio.
27 Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say? Father, save me from this hour? But it is for this reason that I came to this hour.	27 Ma ora ramina mia è conturbata: E che dirò? Padre, salvami da quest'ora? Ma sono venuto appunto per quest'ora.
28 Father, glorify your name!” And then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”	28 Padre, glorifica il tuo nome. E dal cielo venne questa voce: E l'ho glorificato, e di nuovo lo glorificherò.
29 Therefore, the crowd, which was standing near and had heard it, said that it was like thunder. Others were saying, “An Angel was speaking with him.”	29 Or la folla che era presente, e udì, disse che era stato un tuono. Altri dicevano: Un Angelo gli ha parlato.
30 Jesus responded and said: “This voice came, not for my sake, but for your sakes.	30 E Gesù prese a dire: Non per me, ma per voi è venuta questa voce.
31 Now is the judgment of the world. Now will the prince of this world be cast out.	31 Or si fa giudizio di questo mondo, ora il principe di questo mondo sarà cacciato fuori.
32 And when I have been lifted up from the earth, I will draw all things to myself.”	32 Ed io quando sarò innalzato da terra, trarrò tutto a me.
33 (Now he said this, signifying what kind of death he would die.)	33 Ciò diceva per significare di qual morte doveva morire.
34 The crowd answered him: “We have heard, from the law, that the Christ remains forever. And so how can you say, ‘The Son of man must be lifted up?’ Who is this Son of man?”	34 Gli rispose la gente: Noi abbiamo appreso dalla legge che il Cristo vive in eterno. Or come dici tu che il Figlio dell'uomo deve essere innalzato? Chi è questo Figlio dell'uomo?
35 Therefore, Jesus said to them: “For a brief time, the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. But whoever walks in darkness does not know where is he going.	35 Disse allora Gesù ad essi: Ancora un poco la luce è con voi. Camminate mentre avete la luce, affinchè non vi sorprendano le tenebre; e chi cammina nel buio, non sa dove vada.
36 While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may be sons of the Light.” Jesus spoke these things, and then he went away and hid himself from them.	36 Finchè avete luce, credete nella luce, per esser figli della luce. Queste cose disse Gesù; poi se ne andò e si nascose da essi.
37 And although he had done such great signs in their presence, they did not believe in him,	37 Ma sebbene avesse fatti cosi grandi miracoli, davanti a loro, non credevano in lui,
38 so that the word of the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled, which says: “Lord, who has believed in our hearing? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”	38 affinché s'adempisse la parola detta dal profeta Isaia: Signore, chi ha creduto a ciò che ha ascoltato da noi? E a chi è stato rivelato il braccio del Signore?
39 Because of this, they were not able to believe, for Isaiah said again:	39 Non potevan credere perchè Isaia aveva anche detto:
40 “He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, so that they may not see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and be converted: and then I would heal them.”	40 Accecò i loro occhi e indurì il loro cuore, affinchè cogli occhi non vedano, e col cuore non intendano, e si convertano e li risani.
41 These things Isaiah said, when he saw his glory and was speaking about him.	41 Tali cose disse Isaia allorché ne vide la gloria e ne parlò.
42 Yet truly, many of the leaders also believed in him. But because of the Pharisees, they did not confess him, so that they would not be cast out of the synagogue.	42 Nondimeno anche dei capi molti credettero in lui; ma per paura dei Farisei non lo confessavano, per non essere cacciati dalla sinagoga.
43 For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.	43 Perchè amarono più la gloria degli uomini che quella di Dio.
44 But Jesus cried out and said: “Whoever believes in me, does not believe in me, but in him who sent me.	44 Ma Gesù esclamò ad alta voce: Chi crede in me, crede non in me, ma in colui che mi ha mandato;
45 And whoever sees me, sees him who sent me.	45 e chi vede me, vede colui che mi ha mandato.
46 I have arrived as a light to the world, so that all who believe in me might not remain in darkness.	46 Io son venuto luce al mondo, affinchè chi crede in me non resti nelle tenebre.
47 And if anyone has heard my words and not kept them, I do not judge him. For I did not come so that I may judge the world, but so that I may save the world.	47 E se uno ascolta le mie parole e non le osserva, io non lo giudico: non son venuto infatti a giudicare, ma a salvare il mondo.
48 Whoever despises me and does not accept my words has one who judges him. The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him on the last day.	48 Chi mi disprezza e non riceve le mie parole, ha chi lo giudica: la parola da me annunziata, quella lo giudicherà nel giorno estremo.
49 For I am not speaking from myself, but from the Father who sent me. He gave a commandment to me as to what I should say and how I should speak.	49 Perchè io non ho parlato di mio; ma il Padre, che mi ha mandato, egli stesso mi ha prescritto quel che debbo dire e di che ho da parlare.
50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. Therefore, the things that I speak, just as the Father has said to me, so also do I speak.”	50 E so che il suo comandamento è vita eterna. Le cose adunque che dico, le dico come me le ha dette il Padre.
