1 Now the sons of Ruben and of Gad had many herds, and their substance in cattle was inestimable. And when they had seen that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for feeding animals,	1 Los rubenitas y los gaditas poseían muchos rebaños y muy grandes. Viendo que la tierra de Yacer y la de Galaad eran tierra excelente para el pastoreo,
2 they went to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest and the leaders of the multitude, and they said:	2 fueron y dijeron a Moisés, al sacerdote Eleazar y a los jefes de la comunidad:
3 “Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Sebam, and Nebo, and Beon,	3 «Atarot, Dibón, Yacer, Nimrá, Jesbón, Elalé, Sebán, Nebo y Maón,
4 the land, which the Lord has struck in the sight of the sons of Israel, is a very fertile region for pasturing animals. And we, your servants, have very many cattle.	4 el país que el Señor conquistó al llegar la comunidad de Israel es tierra apropiada para ganado, y tus siervos tienen ganado».
5 And so we beseech you, if we have found favor before you, that you give it to us, your subjects, as a possession, and that you not cause us cross the Jordan.”	5 Y añadieron: «Si hemos hallado gracia a tus ojos, que se nos dé esta tierra en propiedad a tus siervos; no nos hagas pasar el Jordán».
6 And Moses answered them: “Should your brothers go to battle, while you sit here?	6 Respondió Moisés a los gaditas y a los rubenitas: «¿De modo que vuestros hermanos van a ir al combate y vosotros os vais a quedar aquí?
7 Why do you subvert the minds of the sons of Israel, so that they might not dare to cross into the place which the Lord will give to them?	7 ¿Por qué quitáis a los hijos de Israel el ánimo de pasar a la tierra que les ha dado el Señor?
8 Did not your fathers act in the same way, when I sent them from Kadesh-Barnea to explore the land?	8 Eso hicieron ya vuestros padres, cuando los mandé de Cadés Barnea a reconocer el país:
9 And when they had gone all the way to the Valley of the Cluster of Grapes, having viewed the entire region, they subverted the hearts of the sons of Israel, so that they would not enter into the parts that the Lord gave to them.	9 subieron al valle de Escol, vieron la tierra y quitaron a los hijos de Israel el ánimo de entrar en la tierra que les había dado el Señor.
10 And being angry, the Lord swore an oath, saying:	10 Por eso se encendió aquel día la ira del Señor y juró:
11 ‘These men, who ascended out of Egypt, from twenty years and above, will not see the land, which I have promised under an oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For they were not willing to follow me,	11 “Los hombres que salieron de Egipto, de veinte años para arriba, nunca verán la tierra que prometí con juramento a Abrahán, a Isaac y a Jacob, porque no me han sido fieles,
12 except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun; these have fulfilled my will.’	12 excepto Caleb, hijo de Jefuné el queniceo, y Josué, hijo de Nun, que fueron fieles al Señor”.
13 And the Lord, being angry against Israel, led them in a course through the desert for forty years, until the entire generation, which had done evil in his sight, was consumed.	13 Se encendió la ira del Señor contra Israel y los hizo andar errantes por el desierto durante cuarenta años, hasta que se acabó toda aquella generación que había obrado mal a los ojos del Señor.
14 And behold,” he said, “you have risen up in the place of your fathers, the offshoots and the nurslings of sinful men, in order to augment the fury of the Lord against Israel.	14 ¡Y ahora vosotros, raza de hombres pecadores, os alzáis a imitación de vuestros padres, para atizar más el fuego de la ira del Señor contra Israel!
15 But if you are not willing to follow him, he will leave the people behind in the wilderness, and you will have been the cause of all our deaths.”	15 Si os apartáis de él, volverá a retenernos en el desierto, y vosotros seréis los causantes del desastre de todo este pueblo».
16 But approaching closer, they said: “We will manufacture sheep pens and cattle stalls, as well as fortified cities, for our little ones.	16 Entonces se acercaron a Moisés y le dijeron: «Construiremos aquí rediles para nuestras ovejas y ciudades para nuestros niños.
17 But we ourselves will continue on, armed and girded for battle, before the sons of Israel, until we lead them to their places. Our little ones, and whatever we may be able to have, shall be in walled cities, because of the treachery of the inhabitants.	17 Pero nosotros tomaremos las armas a la cabeza de los hijos de Israel, hasta que los introduzcamos en sus lugares; entretanto, nuestros hijos se quedarán en las plazas fuertes, al abrigo de los habitantes del país.
18 We will not return to our houses, even until the sons of Israel may possess their inheritance.	18 No volveremos a nuestras casas hasta que todos los hijos de Israel hayan tomado posesión de su heredad.
19 Neither will we seek anything across the Jordan, because we already have our possession on its eastern side.”	19 Y nosotros no tendremos heredad con ellos al otro lado del Jordán, pues nuestra heredad nos ha tocado de este lado, del lado oriental del Jordán».
20 And Moses said to them: “If you accomplish what you have promised, you may go out, equipped for battle, before the Lord.	20 Moisés les dijo: «Si hacéis lo que habéis dicho, si os armáis para combatir delante del Señor
21 And let every fighting man cross over the Jordan, until the Lord overthrows his enemies,	21 y todos vuestros combatientes pasan el Jordán delante del Señor, hasta que os quite de delante a sus enemigos
22 and all the land is subjected to him. Then you will be guiltless with the Lord and with Israel, and you will obtain the regions which you desire before the Lord.	22 y la tierra sea ocupada a la llegada del Señor, y solo después volvéis, quedaréis exentos de culpa ante el Señor y ante Israel. Y obtendréis esta tierra en propiedad delante del Señor.
23 But if you do not do what you have said, no one could doubt that you will have sinned against God. And know this: your sin shall overtake you.	23 Pero si no lo hacéis así, pecaréis contra el Señor, y sabed que vuestro pecado acabará por saliros al encuentro.
24 Therefore, build cities for your little ones, and pens and stables for your sheep and cattle; and fulfill what you have promised.”	24 Construid, pues, ciudades para vuestros niños, y rediles para vuestros rebaños; y haced lo que habéis prometido».
25 And the sons of Gad and of Ruben said to Moses: “We are your servants, we shall do what you, our ruler, orders.	25 Dijeron los gaditas y los rubenitas a Moisés: «Tus siervos harán lo que mi señor manda.
26 We will leave behind our little ones, and our wives, and the sheep and cattle, in the cities of Gilead.	26 Nuestros hijos, nuestras mujeres, nuestros rebaños y todo nuestro ganado se quedarán aquí en las ciudades de Galaad.
27 And we, your servants, all well-equipped, will go forth to battle, just as you, our ruler, has spoken.”	27 Pero tus siervos, todos los que llevan armas, pasarán delante del Señor e irán a la guerra, como dice mi señor».
28 Therefore, Moses instructed Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the princes of the families throughout the tribes of Israel, and he said to them:	28 Moisés dio esta orden al sacerdote Eleazar, a Josué, hijo de Nun, y a los cabezas de familia en las tribus de los hijos de Israel:
29 “If the sons of Gad and the sons of Ruben cross over the Jordan with you, all armed for war before the Lord, and if the land becomes subject to you, give them Gilead as a possession.	29 «Si los gaditas y rubenitas, todo el que esté armado, pasan con vosotros el Jordán, para combatir delante del Señor, y la tierra os queda sometida, les daréis la tierra de Galaad en propiedad.
30 But if they are not willing to cross with you, armed, into the land of Canaan, then let them receive places among you for their dwellings.”	30 Pero si no pasan armados con vosotros, tendrán su heredad entre vosotros en la tierra de Canaán».
31 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Ruben responded: “Just as the Lord has spoken to his servants, so shall we do.	31 Respondieron los gaditas y los rubenitas: «Haremos lo que ha dicho mi señor a tus siervos.
32 We will go forth, armed, before the Lord into the land of Canaan; and we acknowledge that we have already received our possession across the Jordan.”	32 Nosotros pasaremos armados delante del Señor a la tierra de Canaán; pero danos la propiedad de nuestra herencia a este lado del Jordán».
33 And so, Moses gave to the sons of Gad and of Ruben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og, king of Bashan, and their land with its surrounding cities.	33 Moisés dio a los gaditas, a los rubenitas y a media tribu de Manasés, hijo de José, el reino de Sijón, rey de los amorreos, y el reino de Og, rey de Basán; el país con las ciudades comprendidas en sus fronteras: las ciudades del país en toda su extensión.
34 Therefore, the sons of Gad built up Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,	34 Los gaditas construyeron las plazas fuertes de Dibón, Atarot y Aroer,
35 and Atroth and Shophan, and Jazer, and Jogbehah,	35 Atrot Sofán, Yacer, Yogbohá,
36 and Beth-Nimrah, and Beth-Haran, as fortified cities with pens for their cattle.	36 Bet Nimrá, Bet Harán, y rediles para los rebaños.
37 Yet truly, the sons of Ruben built up Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,	37 Los rubenitas construyeron Jesbón, Elalé, Quiriatáin,
38 and Nebo, and Baal-meon (their names having been changed) and Sibmah, appointing names for the cities which they had built.	38 Nebo, Baal Maón, cambiadas de nombre, y Sibmá. Y pusieron nombres a las ciudades que construyeron.
39 Moreover, the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, continued on within Gilead, and they devastated it, putting to death its inhabitant, the Amorite.	39 Los hijos de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, fueron a Galaad, la conquistaron y expulsaron a los amorreos que habitaban allí.
40 Therefore, Moses gave the land of Gilead to Machir, the son of Manasseh, and he lived in it.	40 Moisés dio Galaad a Maquir, hijo de Manasés, que se estableció allí.
41 But Jair, the son of Manasseh, went out and occupied its villages, which he called Havoth Jair, that is, the Villages of Jair.	41 Yaír, hijo de Manasés, fue y se apoderó de las aldeas de ellos y las llamó Aldeas de Yaír.
42 Likewise, Nobah went forth and captured Kenath with its villages. And he called it by his own name, Nobah.	42 Nóbaj fue y se apoderó de Quenat y de sus aldeas, y le puso su propio nombre: Nóbaj.
