1 Now the sons of Ruben and of Gad had many herds, and their substance in cattle was inestimable. And when they had seen that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for feeding animals,	1 Groß und überaus stark war der Viehbestand der Rubeniten und der Gaditen. Sie besichtigten das Land Jaser und das Gebiet von Gilead und fanden, daß die Gegend sich für Viehzucht gut eignete.
2 they went to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest and the leaders of the multitude, and they said:	2 Da gingen die Gaditen und die Rubeniten hin und sprachen zu Moses, dem Priester Eleasar und zu den Fürsten der Gemeinde.
3 “Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Sebam, and Nebo, and Beon,	3 "Atarot, Dibon, Jaser, Nimra, Hesbon, Elale, Sebam, Nebo und Beon,
4 the land, which the Lord has struck in the sight of the sons of Israel, is a very fertile region for pasturing animals. And we, your servants, have very many cattle.	4 das Land, das der Herr vor der Gemeinde Israel geschlagen hat, ist ein Land für Viehzucht, und deine Knechte haben Herden." Und sie fuhren fort: "Haben wir Gnade bei dir gefunden, so werde dieses Land deinen Knechten zum Eigentum übergeben. Laß uns also nicht den Jordan durchschreiten!"
5 And so we beseech you, if we have found favor before you, that you give it to us, your subjects, as a possession, and that you not cause us cross the Jordan.”	5 Und sie fuhren fort:
6 And Moses answered them: “Should your brothers go to battle, while you sit here?	6 Moses antwortete den Gaditen und Rubeniten: "Sollen etwa eure Brüder in den Kampf ziehen, und ihr wollt hier ruhig sitzen?
7 Why do you subvert the minds of the sons of Israel, so that they might not dare to cross into the place which the Lord will give to them?	7 Warum wollt ihr denn die Israeliten entmutigen, in das Land hinüberzuziehen, das der Herr ihnen gegeben hat?
8 Did not your fathers act in the same way, when I sent them from Kadesh-Barnea to explore the land?	8 So haben eure Väter auch gehandelt, als ich sie von Kades-Barnea aussandte, das Land zu besichtigen.
9 And when they had gone all the way to the Valley of the Cluster of Grapes, having viewed the entire region, they subverted the hearts of the sons of Israel, so that they would not enter into the parts that the Lord gave to them.	9 Sie zogen dann bis zum Tale Eschkol und besichtigten das Land. Dann entmutigten sie aber die Israeliten, so daß diese nicht mehr in das Land gehen wollten, das der Herr ihnen verliehen hatte.
10 And being angry, the Lord swore an oath, saying:	10 An jenem Tag aber entbrannte der Zorn des Herrn, und er tat den Schwur:
11 ‘These men, who ascended out of Egypt, from twenty years and above, will not see the land, which I have promised under an oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For they were not willing to follow me,	11 Nie werden die Männer von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber, die von Ägypten weggezogen sind, das Land zu sehen bekommen, das ich Abraham, Isaak und Jakob eidlich versprochen habe; denn sie haben mir nicht gehorcht.
12 except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun; these have fulfilled my will.’	12 Ausgenommen sind Kaleb, der Kenissiter, der Sohn Jephunnes, und Josua, der Sohn Nuns. Denn diese haben dem Herrn völlig gehorcht.
13 And the Lord, being angry against Israel, led them in a course through the desert for forty years, until the entire generation, which had done evil in his sight, was consumed.	13 Da entbrannte der Zorn des Herrn gegen Israel. Er ließ sie vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste herumirren, bis das ganze Geschlecht, das sich in den Augen des Herrn versündigt hatte, aufgerieben war.
14 And behold,” he said, “you have risen up in the place of your fathers, the offshoots and the nurslings of sinful men, in order to augment the fury of the Lord against Israel.	14 Und nun seid ihr an die Stelle eurer Väter getreten, eine Brut von Sündern, um die Zornesglut des Herrn gegen Israel noch stärker zum Entfachen zu bringen.
15 But if you are not willing to follow him, he will leave the people behind in the wilderness, and you will have been the cause of all our deaths.”	15 Wenn ihr euch nun von ihm abwendet, so läßt er es gewiß noch länger in der Wüste, und ihr verursacht diesem ganzen Volk den Untergang."
16 But approaching closer, they said: “We will manufacture sheep pens and cattle stalls, as well as fortified cities, for our little ones.	16 Sie traten zu ihm heran und sprachen: "Wir wollen hier Kleinviehherden für unseren Viehbestand errichten und Städte für unsere Familien.
17 But we ourselves will continue on, armed and girded for battle, before the sons of Israel, until we lead them to their places. Our little ones, and whatever we may be able to have, shall be in walled cities, because of the treachery of the inhabitants.	17 Wir selbst aber wollen uns rüsten und zu Kampfgruppen geordnet an der Spitze der Israeliten ziehen, bis wir auch sie an ihre Wohnsitze gebracht haben. Nur sollen Weib und Kind in den befestigten Städten bleiben wegen der Bewohner jenes Landes.
18 We will not return to our houses, even until the sons of Israel may possess their inheritance.	18 Wir kehren nicht zurück zu unseren Häusern, bis sämtliche Israeliten zu ihrem Erbbesitz gekommen sind.
19 Neither will we seek anything across the Jordan, because we already have our possession on its eastern side.”	19 Denn wir werden ja bei ihnen jenseits des Jordans und darüber hinaus keinen Erbbesitz erhalten; denn uns ist als Erbbesitz das Land östlich jenseits des Jordans zugefallen."
20 And Moses said to them: “If you accomplish what you have promised, you may go out, equipped for battle, before the Lord.	20 Moses sprach zu ihnen: "Wenn ihr das tun wollt, wenn ihr euch vor dem Herrn zum Kampfe rüstet
21 And let every fighting man cross over the Jordan, until the Lord overthrows his enemies,	21 und ein jeder in voller Rüstung vor dem Herrn den Jordan überschreitet, bis er seine Feinde vor sich her vertrieben hat,
22 and all the land is subjected to him. Then you will be guiltless with the Lord and with Israel, and you will obtain the regions which you desire before the Lord.	22 und wenn ihr erst dann heimkehren wollt, wenn das Land vor dem Herrn unterworfen ist, dann seid ihr von eurer Pflicht gegenüber dem Herrn und Israel befreit. Dieses Land soll euch vor dem Herrn als Besitz zuteil werden.
23 But if you do not do what you have said, no one could doubt that you will have sinned against God. And know this: your sin shall overtake you.	23 Handelt ihr aber nicht so, dann seid ihr sündhaft vor dem Herrn. Wißt, daß dann eure Sünde auf euch zurückfallen wird.
24 Therefore, build cities for your little ones, and pens and stables for your sheep and cattle; and fulfill what you have promised.”	24 Baut euch nun also Städte für Weib und Kind sowie Hürden für euer Kleinvieh! Tut aber das, was euer Mund gesprochen hat!"
25 And the sons of Gad and of Ruben said to Moses: “We are your servants, we shall do what you, our ruler, orders.	25 Die Gaditen und Rubeniten erwiderten dem Moses: "Deine Knechte werden tun, wie du, unser Herr, befiehlst!
26 We will leave behind our little ones, and our wives, and the sheep and cattle, in the cities of Gilead.	26 Unsere Kinder, unsere Frauen, unser Herdenbestand und unser Viehbesitz sollen dort in den Städten Gileads bleiben.
27 And we, your servants, all well-equipped, will go forth to battle, just as you, our ruler, has spoken.”	27 Deine Knechte aber wollen in voller Kriegsrüstung vor dem Herrn zum Kampfe ziehen, wie du, unser Herr, befiehlst!"
28 Therefore, Moses instructed Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the princes of the families throughout the tribes of Israel, and he said to them:	28 Moses gab nun dem Priester Eleasar und Josua, dem Sohne Nuns, und den Stammeshäuptern der Israeliten Weisung.
29 “If the sons of Gad and the sons of Ruben cross over the Jordan with you, all armed for war before the Lord, and if the land becomes subject to you, give them Gilead as a possession.	29 Er sprach: "Ziehen die Gaditen und die Rubeniten mit euch in voller Kriegsausrüstung über den Jordan in den Kampf vor dem Herrn, und liegt das Land unterworfen vor euch, so gebt ihnen das Gebiet von Gilead zum Besitz!
30 But if they are not willing to cross with you, armed, into the land of Canaan, then let them receive places among you for their dwellings.”	30 Ziehen aber die Krieger mit euch nicht hinüber, dann sollen sie mit euch zusammen im Lande Kanaan ansässig werden."
31 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Ruben responded: “Just as the Lord has spoken to his servants, so shall we do.	31 Die Gaditen und Rubeniten erwiderten darauf: "Wie der Herr deinen Knechten befohlen hat, so wollen wir tun!
32 We will go forth, armed, before the Lord into the land of Canaan; and we acknowledge that we have already received our possession across the Jordan.”	32 Wir wollen kampfgerüstet vor dem Herrn ins Land Kanaan hinüberziehen, damit uns unser Erbbesitz jenseits des Jordans erhalten bleibe!"
33 And so, Moses gave to the sons of Gad and of Ruben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og, king of Bashan, and their land with its surrounding cities.	33 Da verlieh ihnen Moses - den Gaditen, Rubeniten und der Hälfte des Stammes Manasse, des Sohnes Josephs - das Königreich des Amoriterkönigs Sichon und das Königreich des Basankönigs Og, das Land samt seinen Städten mit Umgebung, die Städte ringsum im Land.
34 Therefore, the sons of Gad built up Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,	34 Die Gaditen bauten: Dibon, Atarot, Aroer,
35 and Atroth and Shophan, and Jazer, and Jogbehah,	35 Atrot-Schophan, Jaser, Jogbeha,
36 and Beth-Nimrah, and Beth-Haran, as fortified cities with pens for their cattle.	36 Bet-Nimra und Bet-Haran, feste Städte und Kleinviehhürden.
37 Yet truly, the sons of Ruben built up Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,	37 Die Rubeniten bauten Hesbon, Elale, Kirjatajim,
38 and Nebo, and Baal-meon (their names having been changed) and Sibmah, appointing names for the cities which they had built.	38 Nebo, Baal-Meon - mit veränderten Namen - und Sibma. Sie benannten die Städte, die sie gebaut hatten, mit (ihren alten) Namen.
39 Moreover, the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, continued on within Gilead, and they devastated it, putting to death its inhabitant, the Amorite.	39 Vie Nachkommen Machirs, des Sohnes Manasses, zogen nach Gilead, eroberten es und vertrieben die darin ansässigen Amoriter.
40 Therefore, Moses gave the land of Gilead to Machir, the son of Manasseh, and he lived in it.	40 So verlieh Moses Gilead dem Manassestamm Machir, und dieser ließ sich darin nieder.
41 But Jair, the son of Manasseh, went out and occupied its villages, which he called Havoth Jair, that is, the Villages of Jair.	41 Jair, der Sohn des Manasse, zog ebenfalls aus, eroberte ihre Zeltdörfer und benannte sie "Zeltdörfer Jairs"
42 Likewise, Nobah went forth and captured Kenath with its villages. And he called it by his own name, Nobah.	42 Auch Nobach zog aus, eroberte Kenat mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften. Er benannte es nach seinem Namen Nobach.
