Jonah 2

1 And the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.	1 Der Herr aber schickte einen großen Fisch, der Jona verschlang. Jona war drei Tage und drei Nächte im Bauch des Fisches
2 And Jonah prayed to the Lord, his God, from the belly of the fish.	2 und er betete im Bauch des Fisches zum Herrn, seinem Gott:
3 And he said: “I cried out to the Lord from my tribulation, and he heeded me. From the belly of hell, I cried out, and you heeded my voice.	3 In meiner Not rief ich zum Herrn und er erhörte mich. Aus der Tiefe der Unterwelt schrie ich um Hilfe und du hörtest mein Rufen.
4 And you have thrown me into the deep, in the heart of the sea, and a flood has encircled me. All your whirlpools and your waves have passed over me.	4 Du hast mich in die Tiefe geworfen, in das Herz der Meere; mich umschlossen die Fluten, all deine Wellen und Wogen schlugen über mir zusammen.
5 And I said: I am expelled from the sight of your eyes. Yet, truly, I will see your holy temple again.	5 Ich dachte: Ich bin aus deiner Nähe verstoßen. Wie kann ich deinen heiligen Tempel wieder erblicken?
6 The waters surrounded me, even to the soul. The abyss has walled me in. The ocean has covered my head.	6 Das Wasser reichte mir bis an die Kehle, die Urflut umschloss mich; Schilfgras umschlang meinen Kopf.
7 I descended to the base of the mountains. The bars of the earth have enclosed me forever. And you will raise up my life from corruption, Lord, my God.	7 Bis zu den Wurzeln der Berge, tief in die Erde kam ich hinab; ihre Riegel schlossen mich ein für immer. Doch du holtest mich lebendig aus dem Grab herauf, Herr, mein Gott.
8 When my soul was in anguish within me, I called to mind the Lord, so that my prayer might come to you, to your holy temple.	8 Als mir der Atem schwand, dachte ich an den Herrn und mein Gebet drang zu dir, zu deinem heiligen Tempel.
9 Those who in vain observe vanities, abandon their own mercy.	9 Wer nichtige Götzen verehrt, der handelt treulos.
10 But I, with a voice of praise, will sacrifice to you. I will repay whatever I have vowed to the Lord, because of my salvation.”	10 Ich aber will dir opfern und laut dein Lob verkünden. Was ich gelobt habe, will ich erfüllen. Vom Herrn kommt die Rettung.
11 And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.	11 Da befahl der Herr dem Fisch, Jona ans Land zu speien.
