1 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was content in my house and prospering in my palace.	1 Moi, Nabuchodonosor, j'étais tranquille dans ma maison et heureux dans mon palais.
2 I saw a dream that terrified me, and my thoughts on my bed and the visions in my head disturbed me.	2 J'ai vu un songe qui m'a effrayé, et mes pensées sur ma couche et les visions de mon imagination m'épouvantèrent.
3 And so a decree was established by me, that all of the wise men of Babylon should be brought in before me, and that they should reveal to me the answer to the dream.	3 Aussi je publiai un décret pour qu'on fît venir en ma présence tous les sages de Babylone, afin qu'ils me donnassent l'explication de mon songe.
4 Then the seers, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers entered, and I explained about the dream in their presence, but they did not reveal its answer to me.	4 Alors les devins, les mages,les Chaldéens et les augures se présentèrent, et je racontai mon songe devant eux, et ils ne m'en donnèrent pas l'explication.
5 And then their colleague came in before me, Daniel, (whose name is Belteshazzar according to the name of my god,) who has the spirit of the holy gods within his very self, and I told the dream directly to him.	5 Enfin Daniel, leur collègue, à qui j'ai donné le nom de Baltassar, d'après le nom de mon dieu, et qui a en lui-même l'esprit des dieux saints, entra en ma présence. Et je lui racontai mon songe.
6 Belteshazzar, leader of the seers, since I know that you have in you the spirit of the holy gods, and that no mystery is unreachable to you, explain to me the visions of my dreams, which I saw, and the solution to them.	6 Baltassar, prince des devins, comme je sais que tu as en toi l'esprit des dieux saints, et qu'aucun secret ne t'est impénétrable, raconte-moi les visions de mes songes et donne-m'en l'explication.
7 This was the vision of my head on my bed. I looked, and behold, a tree in the middle of the earth, and its height was exceedingly great.	7 Voici la vision de mon esprit lorsque j'étais sur ma couche: Je regardais, et voici qu'il y avait un arbre au milieu de la terre, et sa hauteur était extrême.
8 The tree was great and strong, and its height reached up to heaven. It could be seen all the way to the ends of the entire earth.	8 C'était un arbre grand et fort, et sa cime atteignait le ciel; on l'apercevait jusqu'aux extrémités de toute la terre.
9 Its leaves were very beautiful, and its fruit was very abundant, and in it was food for the whole world. Under it, animals and beasts were dwelling, and in its branches, the birds of the sky were sheltered, and from it, all flesh was fed.	9 Ses feuilles étaient très belles, et ses fruits très abondants; il portait de la nourriture pour tous. Sous lui habitaient les animaux et les bêtes sauvages; les oiseaux du ciel demeuraient sur ses branches, et toute chair trouvait en lui sa nourriture.
10 I saw in the vision of my head upon my blanket, and behold, a watcher and a holy one descended from heaven.	10 Je regardais, dans la vision de mon esprit, sur ma couche, et voici, un de ceux qui veillent et qui sont saints descendit du ciel.
11 He cried out loudly, and he said this: “Cut down the tree and prune its branches; shake off its leaves and scatter its fruits; let flee the beasts, which are under it, and the birds from its branches.	11 Il cria avec force, et il dit: Abattez l'arbre, coupez ses branches, faites tomber ses feuilles et dispersez ses fruits; que les bêtes qui sont dessous s'enfuient, ainsi que les oiseaux qui sont sur ses branches.
12 Nevertheless, leave the stump of its roots in the earth, and let it be bound with a band of iron and brass among the plants, which are close by, and let it be touched by the dew of heaven, and let its place be with the wild animals among the plants of the earth.	12 Cependant laissez en terre le germe de ses racines; qu'il soit lié avec une chaîne de fer et d'airain parmi les herbes des champs; qu'il soit trempé de la rosée du ciel, et qu'il ait, avec les bêtes sauvages, l'herbe de la terre pour son partage.
13 Let his heart be changed from being human, and let the heart of a wild animal be given to him, and let seven periods of time pass over him.	13 Que son coeur d'homme soit changé, et qu'on lui donne un coeur de bête, et que sept temps passent sur lui.
14 This is the decree from the judgment of the watchers, and the decision and proclamation of the holy ones, until the living shall know that the Supreme One is ruler in the kingdom of men, and that he will give it to whomever he wills, and he will appoint the lowest man over it.”	14 Cette sentence a été portée par ceux qui veillent; c'est la parole et la demande des saints, jusqu'à ce que les vivants connaissent que le Très Haut domine sur le royaume des hommes, qu'Il le donne à qui il Lui plaît, et qu'Il établit Roi le plus humble des hommes.
15 I, king Nebuchadnezzar, saw this dream. And so you, Belteshazzar, must quickly explain to me the interpretation because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to declare the meaning of it to me. But you are able because the spirit of the holy gods is in you.	15 Voilà le songe que j'ai eu, moi le roi Nabuchodonosor. Hâte-toi donc, Baltassar, de m'en donner l'explication; car tous les sages de mon royaume n'ont pu me l'interpréter; mais toi, tu le peux, car l'esprit des dieux saints est en toi.
16 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, began silently to think within himself for about one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. But the king responded, saying, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream and its interpretation disturb you.” Belteshazzar answered and said, “My lord, the dream is for those who hate you, and its interpretation may be for your enemies.	16 Alors Daniel, surnommé Baltassar, commença à penser en lui-même en silence, pendant près d'une heure, et ses pensées le troublaient. Mais le roi, prenant la parole, dit: Baltassar, que ce songe et son interprétation ne te troublent point. Baltassar répondit: Mon seigneur, que ce songe soit pour ceux qui te haïssent, et son interprétation pour tes ennemis!
17 The tree that you saw was lofty and strong; its height reached toward heaven, and it could be seen throughout the whole world.	17 L'arbre que tu as vu grand et vigoureux, et dont la hauteur atteignait le ciel et qu'on apercevait sur toute la terre,
18 And its branches were very beautiful, and its fruit very abundant, and in it was food for all. Under it, dwelt the beasts of the field, and in its branches, the birds of the air stayed.	18 cet arbre dont les branches étaient très belles et les fruits très abondants, qui portait de la nourriture pour tous, sous lequel habitaient les bêtes des champs, et parmi les branches duquel demeuraient les oiseaux du ciel,
19 It is you, O king, who has been greatly esteemed, and you have grown strong. And you have increased your power, and it reaches towards heaven, and your rule is to the ends of the whole earth.	19 c'est toi, ô roi, qui es devenu grand et puissant, dont la grandeur s'est accrue et s'est élevée jusqu'au ciel, et dont la puissance s'est étendue jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre entière.
20 Yet the king also saw a watcher and a holy one descend from heaven and say: ‘Cut down the tree and scatter it; however, leave the stump of its roots in the earth, and let it be bound with iron and brass, among the surrounding plants, and let it be sprinkled with the dew of heaven, and let his feeding be with the wild beasts, until seven periods of time pass over him.’	20 Le roi a vu ensuite que celui qui veille et qui est saint est descendu du Ciel et qu'il a dit: Abattez cet arbre et détruisez-le; cependant laissez en terre le germe de ses racines; qu'il soit lié avec le fer et l'airain parmi les herbes des champs; qu'il soit trempé par la rosée du ciel, et qu'il paisse avec les bêtes sauvages, jusqu'à ce que sept temps soient passés sur lui.
21 This is the interpretation of the judgment of the Most High, which has reached my lord, the king.	21 Voici l'interprétation de la sentence du Très-Haut, qui a été prononcée contre mon seigneur le roi:
22 They will expel you from among men, and your dwelling will be with the beasts and the wild animals, and you will eat hay like an ox, and you will be drenched with the dew of heaven. Likewise, seven periods of time will pass over you, until you know that the Supreme One rules over the kingdom of men, and he gives it to whomever he wills.	22 On te chassera du milieu des hommes, et tu habiteras avec les animaux et les bêtes sauvages; tu mangeras du foin comme un boeuf; tu seras trempé de la rosée du ciel, et sept temps passeront sur toi, jusqu'à ce que tu saches que le Très-Haut domine sur le royaume des hommes, et qu'Il le donne à qui Il veut.
23 But, since he commanded that the stump of its roots, that is, of the tree, should be left behind, your kingdom will be left for you, after you have realized that power is from divinity.	23 Quant à l'ordre de laisser le germe des racines de l'arbre, cela signifie que ton royaume te demeurera, lorsque tu auras reconnu que toute puissance vient du Ciel.
24 Because of this, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you. And redeem your sins with alms, and your iniquities with mercy towards the poor. Perhaps he will forgive your offenses.”	24 C'est pourquoi, ô roi, puisse mon conseil te plaire; rachète tes péchés par des aumônes, et tes iniquités par des oeuvres de miséricorde envers les pauvres; peut-être le Seigneur pardonnera-t-Il tes fautes.
25 All these things came upon king Nebuchadnezzar.	25 Toutes ces choses arrivèrent au roi Nabuchodonosor.
26 After the end of twelve months, he was taking a walk in the palace of Babylon.	26 Après douze mois, il se promenait dans le palais de Babylone;
27 And the king spoke out loud, saying, “Isn’t this the great Babylon, which I have built, as the home of the kingdom, by the strength of my power and in the glory of my excellence?”	27 et le roi prit la parole et dit: N'est-ce pas là cette grande Babylone que j'ai bâtie come résidence royale, dans la force de ma puissance et dans l'éclat de ma gloire?
28 And while the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice rushed down from heaven, “To you, O king Nebuchadnezzar, it is said: ‘Your kingdom will be taken away from you,	28 Cette parole était encore dans la bouche du roi, lorsqu'une voix s'élança du Ciel: Voici ce qui t'est annoncé, roi Nabuchodonosor: Ton royaume te sera enlevé,
29 and they will expel you from among men, and your dwelling will be with the beasts and the wild animals. You will eat hay like an ox, and seven times will pass over you, until you know that the Supreme One rules in the kingdom of men, and he gives it to whomever he wills.’ ”	29 on te chassera du milieu des hommes, et tu habiteras avec les animaux et les bêtes sauvages; tu mangeras du foin comme un boeuf, et sept temps passeront sur toi, jusqu'à ce que tu saches que le Très-Haut domine sur le royaume des hommes, et qu'Il le donne à qui Il veut.
30 The same hour, the sentence was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar, and he was driven away from among men, and he ate hay like an ox, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until his hair increased like the feathers of eagles, and his nails like those of birds.	30 A la même heure, cette parole fut accomplie sur Nabuchodonosor: il fut chassé du milieu des hommes, il mangea du foin comme un boeuf, son corps fut trempé de la rosée du ciel, jusqu'à ce que ses cheveux eussent crû comme les plumes d'un aigle, et ses ongles comme ceux des oiseaux.
31 Therefore, at the end of these days, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my mind was restored to me. And I blessed the Most High, and I praised and glorified him who lives forever. For his power is an everlasting power, and his kingdom is from generation to generation.	31 A la fin du temps marqué, moi, Nabuchodonosor, j'élevai mes yeux au Ciel, et le sens me fut rendu; je bénis le Très-Haut, je louai et je glorifiai Celui qui vit éternellement, parce que Sa puissance est une puissance éternelle, et que Son royaume s'étend de génération en génération.
32 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing before him. For he acts according to his own will, with the inhabitants of the earth just as with the holy inhabitants of heaven. And there is no one who can resist his hand, or say to him, “Why have you done this?”	32 Tous les habitants de la terre sont devant Lui comme un néant; car Il agit comme il Lui plaît, soit avec les vertus célestes, soit avec les habitants de la terre; et nul ne peut résister à Sa main, ni Lui dire: Pourquoi avez-Vous fait cela?
33 At the same time, my mind returned to me, and I arrived at the honor and glory of my kingdom. And my appearance was given back to me. And my nobles and my magistrates needed me. And I was restored to my kingdom, and even greater majesty was added to me.	33 En ce même temps le sens me revint, et je recouvrai l'éclat et la gloire de mon royaume; ma première forme me fut rendue, mes grands et mes magistrats vinrent me chercher; je fus rétabli dans mon royaume, et une magnificence plus grande me fut donnée.
34 Therefore I, Nebuchadnezzar, now praise, and magnify, and glorify the King of heaven, because all his works and the judgments of his way are true, and those who go forth in arrogance, he is able to bring low.	34 Maintenant donc, moi, Nabuchodonosor, je loue, j'exalte et je glorifie le Roi du ciel, parce que toutes Ses oeuvres sont vraies, Ses voies pleines de justice, et qu'Il peut humilier ceux qui marchent avec orgueil.
