Proverbs 3

1 My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart guard my precepts.	1 Figlio mio, non dimenticare il mio insegnamento e il tuo cuore custodisca i miei precetti,
2 For they shall set before you length of days, and years of life, and peace.	2 perché lunghi giorni e anni di vita e tanta pace ti apporteranno.
3 Let not mercy and truth abandon you: encircle them around your throat, and inscribe them on the tablets of your heart.	3 Bontà e fedeltà non ti abbandonino: légale attorno al tuo collo, scrivile sulla tavola del tuo cuore,
4 And so shall you discover grace and good discipline, in the sight of God and men.	4 e otterrai favore e buon successo agli occhi di Dio e degli uomini.
5 Have confidence in the Lord with all your heart, and do not depend upon your own prudence.	5 Confida nel Signore con tutto il tuo cuore e non affidarti alla tua intelligenza;
6 In all your ways, consider him, and he himself will direct your steps.	6 riconoscilo in tutti i tuoi passi ed egli appianerà i tuoi sentieri.
7 Do not seem wise to yourself. Fear God, and withdraw from evil.	7 Non crederti saggio ai tuoi occhi, temi il Signore e sta’ lontano dal male:
8 Certainly, it shall be health to your navel, and refreshment to your bones.	8 sarà tutta salute per il tuo corpo e refrigerio per le tue ossa.
9 Honor the Lord with your substance, and give to him from the first of all your fruits,	9 Onora il Signore con i tuoi averi e con le primizie di tutti i tuoi raccolti;
10 and then your storehouses will be filled with abundance, and your presses shall overflow with wine.	10 i tuoi granai si riempiranno oltre misura e i tuoi tini traboccheranno di mosto.
11 My son, do not discard the discipline of the Lord, and do not fall away when you are corrected by him.	11 Figlio mio, non disprezzare l’istruzione del Signore e non aver a noia la sua correzione,
12 For whomever the Lord loves, he corrects, and just as a father does with a son, he wins him over.	12 perché il Signore corregge chi ama, come un padre il figlio prediletto.
13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom and who advances to prudence.	13 Beato l’uomo che ha trovato la sapienza, l’uomo che ottiene il discernimento:
14 Her acquisition is better than trading in silver, and her fruit is better than the first and purest gold.	14 è una rendita che vale più dell’argento e un provento superiore a quello dell’oro.
15 She is more precious than all riches, and all that can be desired cannot prevail in comparison to her.	15 La sapienza è più preziosa di ogni perla e quanto puoi desiderare non l’eguaglia.
16 Length of days is at her right hand, and at her left hand is wealth and glory.	16 Lunghi giorni sono nella sua destra e nella sua sinistra ricchezza e onore;
17 Her ways are beautiful ways, and all her paths are peaceful.	17 le sue vie sono vie deliziose e tutti i suoi sentieri conducono al benessere.
18 She is a tree of life to those who overtake her, and he who shall take hold of her is blessed.	18 È un albero di vita per chi l’afferra, e chi ad essa si stringe è beato.
19 The Lord founded the earth on wisdom. He secured the heavens with prudence.	19 Il Signore ha fondato la terra con sapienza, ha consolidato i cieli con intelligenza;
20 By his wisdom, the abyss erupted and the clouds increased with dew.	20 con la sua scienza si aprirono gli abissi e le nubi stillano rugiada.
21 My son, let not these things move away from your eyes. Preserve law as well as counsel.	21 Figlio mio, custodisci il consiglio e la riflessione né mai si allontanino dai tuoi occhi:
22 And so shall there be life in your soul and grace in your voice.	22 saranno vita per te e ornamento per il tuo collo.
23 Then you shall walk confidently in your way, and your feet will not stumble.	23 Allora camminerai sicuro per la tua strada e il tuo piede non inciamperà.
24 When you slumber, you shall not fear. When you rest, your sleep also will be sweet.	24 Quando ti coricherai, non avrai paura; ti coricherai e il tuo sonno sarà dolce.
25 Do not fear unexpected terror, nor the power of the impious falling upon you.	25 Non temerai per uno spavento improvviso, né per la rovina degli empi quando essa verrà,
26 For the Lord will be at your side, and he will guard your feet, so that you may not be seized.	26 perché il Signore sarà la tua sicurezza e preserverà il tuo piede dal laccio.
27 Do not prevent him who is able from doing good. When you are able, do good yourself too.	27 Non negare un bene a chi ne ha il diritto, se hai la possibilità di farlo.
28 Do not say to your friend: “Go away, and then return. Tomorrow I will give to you.” When you are able to do so, give in the present.	28 Non dire al tuo prossimo: «Va’, ripassa, te lo darò domani», se tu possiedi ciò che ti chiede.
29 Do not undertake evil against your friend, even though he has trust in you.	29 Non tramare il male contro il tuo prossimo, mentre egli dimora fiducioso presso di te.
30 Do not contend against a man without cause, even though he has done no evil to you.	30 Non litigare senza motivo con nessuno, se non ti ha fatto nulla di male.
31 Do not rival an unjust man, and do not imitate his ways.	31 Non invidiare l’uomo violento e non irritarti per tutti i suoi successi,
32 For everyone who ridicules is an abomination to the Lord, and his communication is for the simple.	32 perché il Signore ha in orrore il perverso, mentre la sua amicizia è per i giusti.
33 Destitution in the house of the impious is from the Lord. But the habitations of the just shall be blessed.	33 La maledizione del Signore è sulla casa del malvagio, mentre egli benedice la dimora dei giusti.
34 He will ridicule those who ridicule, but he will bestow grace upon the mild.	34 Dei beffardi egli si fa beffe e agli umili concede la sua benevolenza.
35 The wise will possess glory. The exaltation of the foolish is disgraceful.	35 I saggi erediteranno onore, gli stolti invece riceveranno disprezzo.
