Proverbs 19

1 Better is the poor who walks in his simplicity, than the rich who twists his lips and is unwise.	1 Mais vale o pobre que anda na sua integridade, do que o rico de lábios perversos e insensato.
2 Where there is no knowledge of the soul, there is no good. And whoever hurries with his feet will stumble.	2 Sem a ciência, nem o zelo é bom, e quem anda precipitado, tropeçará.
3 The foolishness of a man undermines his steps. And then he seethes in his soul against God.	3 A estultícia do homem perverte os seus passos, e depois o seu coração irrita-se contra Deus (a quem lança as culpas).
4 Riches adds many friends. But from the pauper, even those whom he had become separated.	4 As riquezas multiplicam muito os amigos; mas o pobre do seu (porventura único) amigo é abandonado.
5 A false witness shall not go unpunished. And whoever speaks lies will not escape.	5 A testemunha falsa não ficará impune; e o que diz mentiras não escapará.
6 Many honor the character of one who is powerful, and there are friends for a giver of gifts.	6 São muitos os que adulam o homem generoso, e todos são amigos de quem dá. Todos os irmãos do homem pobre aborrecem-no; com maior razão os seus amigos se retirarão para longe dele.
7 The brothers of the poor man hate him. Moreover, even his friends have withdrawn far from him. Whoever pursues only words shall have nothing.	7 Aquele que só busca palavras, não terá nada,
8 But whoever possesses reason loves his own soul. And one who guards prudence shall discover good things.	8 O possuidor do bom senso ama a sua alma; e o que guarda a prudência encontrará a felicidade.
9 A false witness shall not go unpunished. And whoever speaks lies will perish.	9 A testemunha falsa não ficará impune, e o que diz mentiras, perecerá.
10 Fine things are not fitting for the foolish, nor is it fitting for a servant to rule over princes.	10 Ao insensato não estão bem as delícias, nem ao escravo o dominar os príncipes.
11 The doctrine of a man is known through patience. And his glory is to pass beyond iniquities.	11 A sabedoria do homem conhece-se pela paciência, e a sua glória é passar por cima das injúrias a ele feitas.
12 Like the roaring of a lion, so also is the wrath of a king. And his cheerfulness is like the dew upon the grass.	12 Como (é terrível) o bramido do leão, assim a ira do rei; e o seu favor é como o orvalho sobre a erva.
13 A foolish son is the grief of his father. And an argumentative wife is like a roof that is continually leaking.	13 O filho insensato é a dor do pai, e a mulher amiga de litígios é como o telhado, que está gotejando continuamente.
14 A house and its riches are given by parents. But a prudent wife is particularly from the Lord.	14 Os pais dão casas e riquezas, mas uma mulher sensata é um dom do Senhor.
15 Laziness sends one into a deep sleep, and a dissolute soul will go hungry.	15 A preguiça dá de si sono, e a alma frouxa terá fome.
16 Whoever guards a commandment guards his own soul. But whoever neglects his own way will die.	16 Aquele que observa o mandamento (de Deus) guarda a sua vida; o que porém não cuida da sua conduta padecerá a morte.
17 Whoever is merciful to the poor lends to the Lord. And he will repay him for his efforts.	17 O que se compadece do pobre empresta ao Senhor, e este lhe tornará o que lhe tiver emprestado.
18 Teach your son; do not despair. But do not set your soul toward putting him to death.	18 Castiga o teu filho, não percas a esperança da (emenda), mas não chegue a tua severidade ao excesso de lhe dares a morte.
19 Whoever is impatient will sustain damage. And when it has been taken away, he will set up another.	19 O que é muito iracundo sofrerá o castigo, e mais ainda, se guarda rancor.
20 Listen to counsel and take up discipline, so that you may be wise in your latter days.	20 Ouve o conselho e recebe a correcção, para que sejas sábio para futuro.
21 There are many intentions in the heart of a man. But the will of the Lord shall stand firm.	21 No coração do homem (agitam-se) muitos pensamentos; porém o desígnio do Senhor é que se realiza.
22 An indigent man is merciful. And a pauper is better than a deceitful man.	22 O atractivo dum homem é a sua bondade: e melhor é o pobre que o mentiroso.
23 The fear of the Lord is unto life. And he shall linger in plentitude, without being visited by disaster.	23 O temor do Senhor conduz à vida, e (quem o possui) habitará na abundância sem a visita da desgraça.
24 The lazy conceals his hand under his arm, and he will not so much as bring it to his mouth.	24 O preguiçoso mete a mão no prato; e não quer ter o trabalho de a levar à boca.
25 When the pestilent are scourged, the foolish will become wiser. But if you chastise the wise, he will understand discipline.	25 Castigado o corrompido, tornar-se-á mais sábio o insensato; mas, se repreenderes o sábio, ele compreenderá a repreensão.
26 Whoever afflicts his father and flees from his mother is disreputable and unhappy.	26 Aquele que maltrata o seu pai e que faz fugir sua mãe, é infame e desgraçado.
27 Son, do not cease listening to doctrine, and do not be ignorant of the sermons of knowledge.	27 Não cesses, filho, de ouvir as advertências, nem ignores os ditames da ciência.
28 An unjust witness ridicules judgment. And the mouth of the impious devours iniquity.	28 A testemunha falsa ri-se da justiça; e a boca dos ímpios devora a iniquidade.
29 Judgments are prepared for those who ridicule. And striking hammers are prepared for the bodies of the foolish.	29 Estão preparados os juízos (de Deus) para (castigar) os mofadores, e os açoutes para o dorso dos insensatos.
