Job 23

1 Then Job answered by saying:	1 Giobbe rispose, e disse:
2 Now again my conversation is in bitterness, and the force of my scourging weighs more heavily on me because of my mourning.	2 Anche adesso le mie parole sono parole di amarezza, e la mano, che mi ha piagato è più forte de' miei sospiri.
3 Who will grant me that I might know and find him, and that I may approach even to his throne?	3 Chi mi darà di saper ritrovarlo, e di giungere fino al suo trono?
4 I would place judgment before his eye, and my mouth would fill with criticism,	4 Porterei dinanzi a lui la mia causa, e la bocca piena avrei di querele.
5 so that I may know the words that he will answer me and understand what he will say to me.	5 Affin di sapere quel, ch'ei mi rispondesse, e di intendere quel, ch'ei mi dicesse.
6 I do not want him to contend with me with much strength, nor to overwhelm me with the bulk of his greatness.	6 Non vorrei, che egli meco contendesse colla sua molta fortezza, né che mi sopraffacesse colla mole di sua grandezza.
7 Let him show fairness in response to me, and let my judgment reach to victory.	7 Proponga contro di me l'equità, e vincitore uscirei dal mio giudizio.
8 If I go to the east, he does not appear; if I go to the west, I will not understand him.	8 Ma se io vo verso Oriente, ei non comparisce; se verso Occidente, non saprò rinvenirlo.
9 If I turn to the left, what can I do? I will not take hold of him. If I turn myself to the right, I will not see him.	9 Se mi volgo a sinistra che farò io? non posso raggiungerlo; e se a destra, io nol vedrò.
10 Truly, he knows my way and has tested me like gold that passes through fire.	10 A lui però noti sono i miei andamenti, ed egli ha fatto saggio di me, come si fa dell'oro, che passa pel fuoco.
11 My feet have been following his footsteps; I have kept to his way and have not strayed from it.	11 Il mio piede ha seguitato le sue vestigia, ho battute le sue vie, né ho declinato da queste.
12 I have not withdrawn from the commands of his lips, and the words of his mouth I have hidden in my sinews.	12 Non mi son dilungato dai precetti delle sue labbra, e nel mio seno ho riposte le parole della sua bocca.
13 For he is alone, and no one is able to disturb his intention; and whatever his spirit wills, that he accomplishes.	13 Ma egli solo è, e nissuno può frastornare i suoi disegni, e quello che alla volontà di lui è piaciuto egli lo ha fatto.
14 And when he fulfills his will in me, many other similar ones will also be present with him.	14 Quand'egli avrà fatto di me quello, che ha voluto, molte altre simili cose ha in pronto tutt'ora.
15 And, for this reason, I have been troubled at his presence, and, when I consider him, I am approached by fear.	15 Per questo alla sua presenza io mi conturbo, e quand'io lo considero, mi scuote il timore.
16 God has weakened my heart, and the Almighty has confused me.	16 Dio ha ammollito il mio cuore, e l'Onnipotente mi ha conturbato.
17 Yet I have not perished because of the threatening darkness, nor has gloom covered my face.	17 Perocché io vengo meno non per le tenebre, che mi stan sopra; né questa caligine mi ha velata la faccia.
