Job 23

1 Then Job answered by saying:	1 Or Job répondit en ces termes:
2 Now again my conversation is in bitterness, and the force of my scourging weighs more heavily on me because of my mourning.	2 Maintenant encore ma parole est pleine d'amertume, et la violence de ma plaie est bien au-dessus de mes gémissements.
3 Who will grant me that I might know and find him, and that I may approach even to his throne?	3 Qui me donnera de Le connaître et de Le trouver, et de parvenir jusqu'à Son trône?
4 I would place judgment before his eye, and my mouth would fill with criticism,	4 J'exposerais ma cause devant Lui, et je remplirais ma bouche de preuves,
5 so that I may know the words that he will answer me and understand what he will say to me.	5 pour savoir ce qu'Il me répondrait, et pour entendre ce qu'Il pourrait me dire.
6 I do not want him to contend with me with much strength, nor to overwhelm me with the bulk of his greatness.	6 Je ne voudrais point qu'Il me combattît de toute Sa force, ni qu'Il m'accablât par le poids de Sa grandeur.
7 Let him show fairness in response to me, and let my judgment reach to victory.	7 Qu'Il propose contre moi l'équité, et ma cause obtiendra la victoire.
8 If I go to the east, he does not appear; if I go to the west, I will not understand him.	8 Mais si je vais à l'orient, Il ne paraît point; si je vais à l'occident, je ne L'aperçois pas.
9 If I turn to the left, what can I do? I will not take hold of him. If I turn myself to the right, I will not see him.	9 Si je me tourne à gauche, que faire? je ne puis L'atteindre; si je vais à droite, je ne Le verrai point.
10 Truly, he knows my way and has tested me like gold that passes through fire.	10 Mais Il connaît Lui-même ma voie, et Il m'éprouve comme l'or qui passe par le feu.
11 My feet have been following his footsteps; I have kept to his way and have not strayed from it.	11 Mon pied a suivi Ses traces; j'ai gardé Sa voie, et je ne m'en suis point détourné.
12 I have not withdrawn from the commands of his lips, and the words of his mouth I have hidden in my sinews.	12 Je ne me suis pas écarté des commandements de Ses lèvres, et j'ai caché dans mon sein les paroles de Sa bouche.
13 For he is alone, and no one is able to disturb his intention; and whatever his spirit wills, that he accomplishes.	13 Car Il subsiste Lui seul. Nul ne peut empêcher Ses desseins, et Il fait absolument tout ce qui Lui plaît.
14 And when he fulfills his will in me, many other similar ones will also be present with him.	14 Quand Il aura accompli sur moi Sa volonté, Il lui reste encore beaucoup d'autres moyens semblables.
15 And, for this reason, I have been troubled at his presence, and, when I consider him, I am approached by fear.	15 C'est pourquoi je me trouble en Sa présence, et lorsque je le considère, je suis agité de crainte.
16 God has weakened my heart, and the Almighty has confused me.	16 Dieu a amolli mon coeur, et le Tout-Puissant m'a épouvanté.
17 Yet I have not perished because of the threatening darkness, nor has gloom covered my face.	17 Car je ne péris point à cause des ténèbres qui m'environnent, et ce n'est pas l'obscurité qui a voilé ma face.
