Exodus 33

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Go forth, ascend from this place, you and your people, whom you led away from the land of Egypt, into the land that I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying: To your offspring, I will give it.	1 Der Herr sprach zu Moses: "Auf, ziehe fort von hier, du und das Volk, das du aus dem Ägypterland geführt hast, in das Land, das ich dem Abraham, Isaak und Jakob eidlich zugesichert habe mit den Worten: Deiner Nachkommenschaft will ich es geben!
2 And I will send an Angel to precede you, so that I may cast out the Canaanite, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite,	2 Ich will einen Engel vor dir hersenden und die Kanaaniter, Amoriter, Hethiter, Perissiter, Hiwwiter und Jebusiter vertreiben.
3 and so that you may enter into a land flowing with milk and honey. For I will not go up with you, since you are a stiff-necked people, lest perhaps I may destroy you on the way.”	3 Ich will dich in ein Land bringen, das von Milch und Honig fließt. Ich selbst kann nicht in deiner Mitte hinaufziehen, denn du bist ein halsstarriges Volk; sonst müßte ich dich unterwegs vertilgen."
4 And upon hearing this very bad news, the people mourned; and no one put on his finery according to custom.	4 Als das Volk diese schlimme Botschaft hörte, da hüllte es sich in Trauer, und niemand wollte mehr seinen Schmuck anlegen.
5 And the Lord said to Moses: “Say to the sons of Israel: You are a stiff-necked people. I should at once go up into your midst and destroy you. Now immediately put aside your ornaments, so that I may know what to do to you.”	5 Da sprach der Herr zu Moses: "Sage den Israeliten: Ihr seid ein halsstarriges Volk! Zöge ich auch nur einen Augenblick mit dir, so würde ich dich vertilgen. Jetzt aber lege deinen Schmuck von dir ab, alsdann werde ich sehen, was ich mit dir tun werde!"
6 Therefore, the sons of Israel put aside their ornaments before Mount Horeb.	6 Da entledigten sich die Israeliten vom Berge Horeb an ihres Schmuckes.
7 Also, Moses took the tabernacle and pitched it beyond the camp at a distance, and he called its name: ‘Tabernacle of the Covenant.’ And all the people, who had any kind of question, went out to the Tabernacle of the Covenant, beyond the camp.	7 Moses nahm das Zelt und schlug es außerhalb des Lagers in einiger Entfernung von ihm auf; er nannte es "Zelt der Offenbarung (Begegnung)". Jeder, der den Herrn befragen wollte, ging zum Offenbarungszelte, das sich außerhalb des Lagers befand.
8 And when Moses went out to the tabernacle, all the people rose up, and each one stood at the door of his pavilion, and they beheld the back of Moses until he entered the tent.	8 Ging Moses zum Zelt hinaus, erhob sich das ganze Volk. Jeder stellte sich an seinen Zelteingang und schaute dem Moses nach, bis er ins Zelt eingetreten war.
9 And when he had gone into the Tabernacle of the Covenant, the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door, and he spoke with Moses.	9 Sobald aber Moses das Zelt betrat, ließ sich die Wolkensäule herab und stand am Zelteingang, und Gott sprach mit Moses.
10 And all discerned that the pillar of cloud stood at the door of the Tabernacle. And they stood and worshipped at the doors of their tents.	10 Das Volk sah die Wolkensäule am Zelteingang stehen. Da erhoben sich alle Leute und warfen sich an ihrem Zelteingang voll Ehrfurcht nieder.
11 But the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, just as a man is used to speaking to his friend. And when he returned to the camp, his minister Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, did not withdraw from the Tabernacle.	11 Der Herr redete mit Moses von Angesicht zu Angesicht, wie jemand mit seinem Freund redet. Er kehrte dann ins Lager zurück. Sein Diener Josua aber, der Sohn des Nun, der noch ein Jüngling war, wich nicht vom Zelt.
12 Then Moses said to the Lord: “You instruct me to lead this people away, and you do not reveal to me whom you will send with me, particularly since you have said: ‘I know you by name, and you have found favor before me.’	12 Moses sprach zum Herrn: "Siehe, du befiehlst mir: "Führe dieses Volk hinauf!" Doch hast du mir nicht mitgeteilt, wen du mit mir senden willst. Dabei hast du mir doch selbst gesagt: "Ich kenne dich mit Namen" und: "Du hast Gnade in meinen Augen gefunden."
13 If, therefore, I have found favor in your sight, show your face to me, so that I may know you and may find grace before your eyes. Look favorably on your people, this nation.”	13 Nun denn, wenn ich in deinen Augen Gnade gefunden habe, so lasse mich doch deine Wege wissen, damit ich dich kenne, und um wirklich in deinen Augen Gnade zu finden! Berücksichtige auch, daß dieses Volk dein Volk ist!"
14 And the Lord said, “My face will precede you, and I will give you rest.”	14 Er antwortete: "Wenn ich persönlich mit dir ziehe, werde ich dich dann zufriedenstellen?"
15 And Moses said: “If you will not yourself precede us, then do not lead us away from this place.	15 Moses versicherte ihm: "Wenn du nicht persönlich mitziehst, dann laß uns lieber überhaupt nicht von hier hinaufziehen!
16 For how will we be able to know, I and your people, that we have found grace in your sight, unless you walk with us, so that we may be glorified out of all the people who live upon the earth?”	16 Woran soll man denn erkennen, daß ich Gnade in deinen Augen gefunden habe, ich und dein Volk? Nicht daran, daß du mit uns ziehst, wodurch wir, ich und dein Volk, vor allen andern Völkern auf Erden ausgezeichnet werden?"
17 Then the Lord said to Moses: “This word also, which you have spoken, I will do. For you have found grace before me, and I have known you by name.”	17 Der Herr erwiderte dem Moses: "Auch das, wonach du eben begehrt hast, will ich tun; denn du hast Gnade in meinen Augen gefunden, und ich kenne dich mit Namen!"
18 And he said, “Show me your glory.”	18 Darauf bat er: "Zeige mir doch deine Herrlichkeit!"
19 He responded: “I will show you all that is good, and I will call out with the name of the Lord before you. And I will take pity on whomever I will, and I will be lenient to whomever it will please me.”	19 Der Herr entgegnete: "Ich will all meinen Reichtum an dir vorüberziehen lassen und den Namen des Herrn vor dir ausrufen: Ich bin gütig, wem ich gütig bin, und erbarme mich dessen, wessen ich mich erbarme."
20 And again he said: “You are not able to see my face. For man shall not see me and live.”	20 Dann fuhr er fort: "Doch mein Angesicht kannst du nicht schauen; denn kein Mensch kann mich schauen und dabei am Leben bleiben!"
21 And again, he said: “Behold, there is a place with me, and you shall stand upon the rock.	21 Der Herr sprach aber: "Siehe, hier in meiner Nähe ist ein Platz, da stelle dich auf den Felsen!
22 And when my glory will cross over, I will set you in a cleft of the rock, and I will protect you with my right hand, until I pass by.	22 Wenn meine Herrlichkeit vorüberzieht, stelle ich dich in die Felsenhöhle und bedecke dich mit meiner Hand, bis ich vorüber bin.
23 And I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back. But my face you are not able to see.”	23 Nehme ich dann meine Hand weg, so kannst du meine Rückseite schauen. Doch mein Angesicht darf man nicht schauen."
