1 Then Tobit sighed, and he began to pray with tears,	1 Então Tobias deu um suspiro e começou a orar com lágrimas,
2 saying, “O Lord, you are just and all your judgments are just, and all your ways are mercy, and truth, and judgment.	2 dizendo: Tu és justo, Senhor, todos os teus juízos são justos, todos os teus caminhos são misericórdia, verdade e justiça.
3 And now, O Lord, remember me, and do not take vengeance for my sins, and do not call to mind my offenses, nor those of my parents.	3 Agora, pois, Senhor, lembra-te de mim, não tomes vingança dos meus pecados, não te lembres dos meus delitos nem dos de meus pais.
4 For we have not obeyed your precepts, and so we have been handed over to plundering and to captivity, and to death, and to mockery, and as a disgrace before all the nations, among which you have dispersed us.	4 Porque não obedecemos aos teus preceitos, por isso fomos entregues ao saque, ao cativeiro e à morte, e tornamo-nos objecto de riso e opróbrio para todas as nações, por entre as quais nos espaIhaste.
5 And now, O Lord, great are your judgments. For we have not acted according to your precepts, and we have not walked sincerely before you.	5 Agora, Senhor, os teus castigos são grandes, porque nós não procedemos segundo os teus preceitos, não andámos sinceramente na tua presença.
6 And now, O Lord, do with me according to your will, and order my spirit to be received in peace. For it is more expedient for me to die, than to live.”	6 Senhor, trata-me segundo a tua vontade, mas manda que o meu espírito seja recebido em paz, porque é melhor para mim morrer do que viver.
7 And so, on the same day, it happened that Sarah, the daughter of Raguel, in Rages, a city of the Medes, also heard a reproach from one of her father’s servant maids.	7 Naquele mesmo dia aconteceu que Sara, filha de Raguel, que estava em Ecbatana, cidade dos Medos, ouviu-se ultrajar por uma das criadas de seu pai,
8 For she had been given to seven husbands, and a demon named Asmodeus had killed them, as soon as they had approached her.	8 porque tinha sido casada com sete maridos, e um demônio chamado Asmodeu os tinha morto, quando eles se aproximavam dela.
9 Therefore, when she corrected the maid for her fault, she answered her, saying, “May we never see son or daughter from you upon the earth, you murderess of your husbands.	9 Tendo Sara repreendido a criada por uma falta qualquer, ela respondeu-lhe: Não vejamos nós jamais sobre a terra filho nem filha nascida de ti, ó assassina dos teus maridos!
10 Would you also kill me, just as you have already killed seven husbands?” At these words, she proceeded to an upper room of her house. And for three days and three nights, she did not eat or drink.	10 Porventura queres tu também matar-me a mim, como já mataste sete maridos? A estas palavras subiu Sara ao quarto mais alto da sua casa e durante três dias e três noites não comeu nem bebeu.
11 But, continuing in prayer with tears, she beseeched God, so that he would liberate her from this reproach.	11 Perseverando em oração, pedia a Deus com lágrimas, que a livrasse deste opróbrio.
12 And it happened on the third day, while she was completing her prayer, blessing the Lord,	12 Ao terceiro dia, acabou a oração bendizendo o Senhor, assim:
13 that she said: “Blessed is your name, O God of our fathers, who, though you had been angry, will show mercy. And in time of tribulation, you dismiss the sins of those who call upon you.	13 Bendito é o teu nome, ó Deus de nossos pais, que, depois de te irares, usas de misericórdia, e no tempo da aflição perdoas os pecados aos que te invocam.
14 To you, O Lord, I turn my face; to you, I direct my eyes.	14 Para ti, Senhor, volto a minha face, para ti dirijo os meus olhos.
15 I beg you, O Lord, that you may absolve me from the chains of this reproach, or at least take me away from the earth.	15 Peço-te, Senhor, que me livres do laço desta ignomínia, ou que, ao menos, me tires do cimo da terra.
16 You know, O Lord, that I have never coveted a husband, and I have preserved my soul clean from all impure desire.	16 Tu sabes, Senhor, que eu nunca desejei (ilicitamente) nenhum homem, que conservei a minha alma pura de toda a concupiscência.
17 I have never mingled myself with those who play. And I have not presented myself as a participant with those who walk with levity.	17 Nunca acompanhei com gente licenciosa, nem tive comércio com os que se portam com leviandade.
18 But I consented to accept a husband, in your fear, not in my lust.	18 Consenti em tomar marido por teu temor, e não por paixão.
19 And, either I was unworthy of them, or they perhaps were not worthy of me. For perhaps you have preserved me for another husband.	19 Ou eu fui indigna deles, ou porventura eles não foram dignos de mim; talvez me tenhas reservado para outro marido (da minha mesma tribo de Neftali).
20 For your counsel is not within the ability of man.	20 Não está ao alcance dos homens (perscrutar) os teus desígnios.
21 But all who worship you are certain of this: that one’s life, if it should be tested, shall be crowned, and if it should be in tribulation, shall be delivered, and if it should be corrected, shall be permitted to approach your mercy.	21 Todavia todo o que te rende culto tem por certo que a sua vida, se for provada, será coroada; se for atribulada, será livre; se for castigada, poderá acolher-se à tua misericórdia.
22 For you are not delighted with our perdition. For, after a storm, you create tranquility, and after tears and weeping, you pour out exultation.	22 Com efeito, tu não te deleitas com a nossa perdição: depois da tormenta, dás a bonança, depois das lágrimas e suspiros, infundes a alegria.
23 May your name, O God of Israel, be blessed forever.”	23 Seja o teu nome, ó Deus de Israel, bendito pelos séculos.
24 At that time, the prayers of them both were heard in the sight of the glory of the most high God.	24 Foram ouvidas, ao mesmo tempo, as orações de ambos, diante da majestade do sumo Deus.
25 And the holy Angel of the Lord, Raphael, was sent to care for both of them, whose prayers were recited at the same time in the sight of the Lord.	25 Rafael, santo anjo do Senhor, foi enviado para curar Tobias e Sara, cujas orações tinham sido apresentadas simultaneamente diante do Senhor.
