Isaiæ 31

NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Vae, qui descendunt in Aegyptum ad auxilium, in equis sperantes et habentes fiduciam super quadrigis, quia multae sunt, et super equitibus, quia praevalidi nimis, et non intendunt in Sanctum Israel et Dominum non requirunt!	1 Woe to those going down to Egypt for help, who put their trust in horses, who rely on the quantity ofchariots, and on great strength of cavalrymen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult Yahweh.
2 Tamen et ipse sapiens adducit malum et verba sua non retractat; et consurget contra domum pessimorum et contra auxilium operantium iniquitatem.	2 Yet he too is wise and can bring disaster and he wil not go back on his word; he wil rise against thebreed of evil-doers and against those who protect wrong-doers.
3 Aegyptius homo et non Deus, et equi eorum caro et non spiritus; et Dominus inclinabit manum suam, et corruet auxiliator, et cadet, cui praestatur auxilium, simulque omnes consumentur.	3 The Egyptian is human, not divine, his horses are flesh, not spirit; Yahweh wil stretch out his hand: theprotector wil stumble, the protected wil fal and all wil perish together.
4 Quia haec dicit Dominus ad me: “ Quomodo si rugit leo et catulus leonis super praedam suam, cum occurrerit ei multitudo pastorum, a voce eorum non formidabit et a multitudine eorum non pavebit, sic descendet Dominus exercituum, ut proelietur super montem Sion et supercollem eius.	4 Yes, this is what Yahweh has said to me: As a lion or lion cub growls over its prey, when scores ofshepherds are summoned to drive it off, without being frightened by their shouting or cowed by the noise theymake, just so will Yahweh Sabaoth descend to fight for Mount Zion and for its hil .
5 Sicut aves volantes, sic proteget Dominus exercituum Ierusalem, protegens et liberans, parcens et salvans ”.	5 Like hovering birds, so wil Yahweh Sabaoth protect Jerusalem; by protecting it, he will save it, bysupporting it, he wil deliver it.
6 Convertimini ad eum, a quo penitus recesseratis, filii Israel.	6 Come back to the one whom the Israelites have so deeply betrayed!
7 In die enim illa abiciet vir idola argentea sua et idola aurea sua, quae fecerunt vobis manus vestrae in peccatum;	7 For, that day, each of you wil throw away the false gods of silver and the false gods of gold which yourown sinful hands have made.
8 et cadet Assyria in gladio non viri, et gladius non hominis vorabit eum, et fugiet a facie gladii, et iuvenes eius vectigales erunt.	8 Assyria will fal by the sword, not that of a man, wil be devoured by the sword, of no human being, hewil flee before the sword and his young warriors will be enslaved.
9 Et fortitudo eius prae terrore transibit, et pavebunt signum principes eius, dixit Dominus, cuius ignis est in Sion, et caminus eius in Ierusalem.	9 In his terror he wil abandon his rock, and his panic-stricken officers desert the standard -- declaresYahweh, whose fire is in Zion, whose furnace, in Jerusalem.
