1 Samuel 26

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Some men from Ziph went to Saul at Gibeah and said, 'Look, David is hiding on the Hil of Hachilah onthe edge of the wastelands!'	1 Gli Zifiti andarono a dire a Saul in Gàbaa: "Davide non si trova nascosto forse sulla collina di Cachilà al limite di Iesimòn?".
2 So Saul set off and went down to the desert of Ziph, accompanied by three thousand picked men ofIsrael, to search for David in the desert of Ziph.	2 Saul si mosse e discese verso il deserto di Zif. Con lui vi erano tremila uomini scelti d'Israele alla ricerca di Davide nel deserto di Zif.
3 Saul pitched camp on the Hil of Hachilah, which is on the edge of the wastelands near the road. Davidwas then living in the desert and saw that Saul had come after him into the desert.	3 Saul si accampò sulla collina di Cachilà che è al limite di Iesimòn lungo la strada, mentre invece Davide se ne stava nel deserto. Quando vide che Saul era venuto ad inseguirlo nel deserto,
4 Accordingly, David sent out spies and learned that Saul had indeed arrived.	4 Davide mandò delle spie e seppe che Saul era venuto davvero.
5 Setting off, David went to the place where Saul had pitched camp. He saw the place where Saul andAbner son of Ner, commander of his army, had bedded down. Saul had bedded down inside the camp with thetroops bivouacking round him.	5 Allora Davide si mosse e andò al luogo dov'era accampato Saul. Davide notò il luogo dove dormivano Saul e Abner, figlio di Ner, capo del suo esercito: Saul dormiva tra i carriaggi mentre tutta la truppa era accampata intorno a lui.
6 Speaking to Ahimelech the Hittite and Abishai son of Zeruiah and brother of Joab, David said, 'Whowil come down with me to the camp, to Saul?' Abishai answered, 'I will go down with you.'	6 Davide si rivolse ad Achimelech l'hittita e ad Abisài, figlio di Zeruià, fratello di Ioab, e disse: "Chi scende con me da Saul nell'accampamento?". Abisài rispose: "Scendo io con te!".
7 So in the dark David and Abishai made their way towards the force, where they found Saul lyingasleep inside the camp, his spear stuck in the ground beside his head, with Abner and the troops lying roundhim.	7 Davide e Abisài andarono di notte verso la truppa, ed ecco che Saul giaceva addormentato tra i carri con la lancia infissa a terra al suo capezzale; Abner e la truppa dormivano intorno a lui.
8 Abishai then said to David, 'Today God has put your enemy in your power; so now let me pin him tothe ground with his own spear. Just one stroke! I shal not need to strike him twice.'	8 Abisài disse a Davide: "Oggi Dio ti ha posto in mano il tuo nemico, fammelo ora trafiggere a terra con la sua lancia in una sola volta, senza bisogno di una seconda".
9 David said to Abishai, 'Do not kil him, for who could raise his hand against Yahweh's anointed and gounpunished?	9 Davide rispose ad Abisài: "Non lo far perire! Perché, chi potrà stendere la sua mano contro il consacrato del Signore e rimanere impunito?".
10 As Yahweh lives,' David said, 'Yahweh himself wil strike him down: either the day wil come for himto die, or he will go into battle and perish then.	10 Davide soggiunse: "Per la vita del Signore! Certamente lo percuoterà il Signore: sia che, arrivato il suo giorno, muoia; sia che, sceso in battaglia, perisca.
11 Yahweh forbid that I should raise my hand against Yahweh's anointed! But now let us take the spearbeside his head and the pitcher of water, and let us go away.'	11 Mi guardi il Signore dallo stendere la mia mano contro il suo consacrato; ora, invece, prendi la lancia che è al suo capezzale e la ciotola dell'acqua e andiamocene".
12 David took the spear and the pitcher of water from beside Saul's head, and they made off. No onesaw, no one knew, no one woke up; they were al asleep, because a torpor from Yahweh had fal en on them.	12 Davide prese la lancia e la ciotola dell'acqua dal capezzale di Saul, poi se ne andarono. Nessuno vide, nessuno si accorse, nessuno si svegliò: infatti quelli erano tutti addormentati, perché un sonno mandato dal Signore era caduto su di loro.
13 David crossed to the other side and halted on the top of the mountain a long way off; there was awide space between them.	13 Davide, passato al versante opposto, si fermò sulla cima del monte, lontano: c'era molto spazio tra di loro.
14 David then cal ed out to the troops and to Abner son of Ner, 'Abner, why don't you answer?' Abnerreplied, 'Who is that calling?'	14 Allora Davide gridò alla truppa e ad Abner, figlio di Ner: "Abner, non rispondi?". Abner rispose: "Chi sei tu che gridi verso il re?".
15 David said to Abner, 'Are you not a man? Who is your equal in Israel? Why, then, did you not guardthe king your lord? One of the people came to kill the king your lord.	15 Davide rispose ad Abner: "Non sei tu un uomo? E chi è come te in Israele? Perché non hai fatto la guardia al re tuo signore? E' venuto infatti un uomo del popolo per uccidere il re tuo signore.
16 What you did was not wel done. As Yahweh lives, you all deserve to die since you did not guardyour lord, Yahweh's anointed. Look where the king's spear is now, and the pitcher of water which was beside hishead!'	16 Non ti fa onore quello che tu hai fatto. Per la vita del Signore, siete davvero degni di morte voi che non avete fatto la guardia al vostro signore, al consacrato del Signore. Ma ora guarda dov'è la lancia del re e la ciotola dell'acqua che era al suo capezzale".
17 Recognising David's voice, Saul said, 'Is that your voice, my son David?' David replied, 'It is myvoice, my lord king.	17 Allora Saul riconobbe la voce di Davide e disse: "Questa è la tua voce, figlio mio Davide?". Davide rispose: "E' la mia voce, o re, mio signore!".
18 Why is my lord pursuing his servant?' he said. 'What have I done? What crime have I committed?	18 Poi soggiunse: "Come mai il mio signore insegue il suo servo? Che cosa ho fatto? E che male vi è nella mia condotta?
19 May my lord king now listen to his servant's words: if Yahweh has incited you against me, may he beappeased with an offering; but if human beings have done it, may they be accursed before Yahweh, since theyhave as effectively banished me today from sharing in Yahweh's heritage as if they had said, "Go and serveother gods!"	19 Ora dunque il re, mio signore, ascolti, di grazia, le parole del suo servo; se il Signore ti istiga contro di me, egli gradisca l'odore di un'offerta; ma se sono i figli dell'uomo, siano maledetti davanti al Signore, perché oggi mi cacciano per impedirmi di partecipare all'eredità del Signore dicendo: "Va', servi altri dèi!".
20 So I pray now that my blood shall not be shed on soil remote from Yahweh's presence, when theking of Israel has mounted an expedition to take my life, as one might hunt a partridge in the mountains!'	20 Ora il mio sangue non cada a terra lontano dalla presenza del Signore! Il re d'Israele, infatti, è uscito a dare la caccia a una semplice pulce, come si insegue una pernice sui monti".
21 Saul replied, 'I have done wrong! Come back, my son David; I shal never harm you again, sincetoday you have shown respect for my life. Yes, I have behaved like a fool, I have been profoundly in the wrong.'	21 Saul rispose: "Ho peccato, ritorna, figlio mio Davide, perché non ti farò più del male, in quanto la mia vita quest'oggi è stata cosa preziosa ai tuoi occhi. Ecco, ho agito stoltamente e ho sbagliato molto gravemente".
22 In reply, David said, 'Here is the king's spear. Let one of the men come across and get it.	22 Davide riprese: "Ecco la lancia, o re! Passi qui uno dei giovanotti a riprenderla.
23 May Yahweh reward each as each has been upright and loyal. Today Yahweh put you in my powerbut I would not raise my hand against Yahweh's anointed.	23 Il Signore retribuirà a ognuno secondo la propria giustizia e la propria fedeltà. Oggi infatti il Signore ti ha consegnato nella mia mano, ma non ho voluto stendere la mia mano contro il consacrato del Signore.
24 As today I set great value by your life, so may Yahweh set great value by my life and deliver me fromevery tribulation!'	24 Ecco: la tua vita è stata preziosa oggi ai miei occhi, così sarà cara la mia vita agli occhi del Signore ed egli mi libererà da ogni angustia".
25 Saul then said, 'May you be blessed, my son David! In what you undertake, you wil certainlysucceed.' David then went on his way and Saul returned home.	25 Saul rispose a Davide: "Benedetto sei tu, figlio mio Davide! Certamente quello che farai, ti riuscirà pienamente". Poi Davide se ne andò per la sua strada e Saul ritornò alla sua dimora.
