NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 News was then brought to David, 'The Philistines are besieging Keilah and plundering the threshing-floors'.	1 Fu riferito a Davide: "Ecco, i Filistei stanno combattendo contro Keila e stanno saccheggiando le aie".
2 David consulted Yahweh, 'Shal I go and fight these Philistines?' Yahweh replied to David, 'Go andfight the Philistines and save Keilah.'	2 Davide consultò il Signore dicendo: "Potrò andare a battere quei Filistei?". Il Signore rispose a Davide: "Va', batterai i Filistei e salverai Keila".
3 But David's men said to him, 'We are already afraid here in Judah; how much more, then, if we go toKeilah to fight the Philistine troops!'	3 Ma gli uomini di Davide gli dissero: "Ecco, noi siamo pieni di paura qui in Giuda, quanto più andando a Keila contro le schiere dei Filistei!".
4 So David consulted Yahweh again and Yahweh replied, 'Be on your way; go down to Keilah, since Ishall give the Philistines into your power.'	4 Davide consultò il Signore una seconda volta ed egli gli rispose: "Alzati, scendi a Keila, perché io metterò i Filistei nelle tue mani".
5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought the Philistines and carried off their cattle and inflicteda great defeat on them. Thus David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.	5 Allora Davide andò con i suoi uomini a Keila, dette battaglia ai Filistei, catturò il loro bestiame e inflisse loro una dura sconfitta. Così Davide salvò gli abitanti di Keila.
6 When Abiathar son of Ahimelech took refuge with David, he went down to Keilah with the ephod in hishand.	6 Quando Ebiatar, figlio di Achimelech, fuggì presso Davide, discese a Keila, con l'efod in mano.
7 When word was brought to Saul that David had gone to Keilah he said, 'God has delivered him intomy power: he has trapped himself by going into a town with gates and bars.'	7 Fu riferito a Saul che Davide era entrato a Keila; allora Saul disse: "Dio l'ha consegnato in mio potere, perché si è chiuso entrando in una città munita di porte e di sbarra".
8 Saul called all the people to arms, to go down to Keilah and besiege David and his men.	8 Saul convocò tutto il popolo alla guerra per discendere a Keila e stringere d'assedio Davide e i suoi uomini.
9 David, however, was aware that Saul was plotting evil against him, and said to Abiathar the priest,'Bring the ephod.'	9 Davide comprese che Saul stava macchinando dei mali contro di lui, e disse al sacerdote Ebiatar: "Avvicina l'efod!".
10 David said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, your servant has heard that Saul is preparing to come to Keilahand destroy the town because of me.	10 Davide disse: "Signore, Dio d'Israele, il tuo servo ha inteso dire che Saul sta cercando di venire a Keila per distruggere la città a causa mia.
11 Wil Saul come down as your servant has heard? Yahweh, God of Israel, I beg you, let your servantknow.' Yahweh replied, 'He wil come down.'	11 I capi di Keila mi consegneranno nelle sue mani? Saul scenderà davvero come il tuo servo ha inteso dire? Signore, Dio d'Israele, deh, fallo sapere al tuo servo!". Il Signore rispose: "Scenderà!".
12 David then went on to ask, 'Wil the notables of Keilah hand me and my men over to Saul?' Yahwehreplied, 'They wil hand you over.'	12 Riprese Davide: "I capi di Keila mi consegneranno insieme con i miei uomini nella mano di Saul?". Rispose il Signore: "Vi consegneranno!".
13 At this, David made off with his men, about six hundred in number; they left Keilah and went wherethey could. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he abandoned the expedition.	13 Allora Davide e i suoi uomini si alzarono, erano circa seicento, uscirono da Keila e vagarono alla ventura. Quando Saul ebbe la notizia che Davide si era messo in salvo da Keila, desistette dalla spedizione.
14 David stayed in the desert, in the strongholds; he stayed in the mountains, in the desert of Ziph; Saulkept looking for him day after day, but God did not deliver him into his power.	14 Davide abitò nel deserto tra i dirupi, abitò nella montagna nel deserto di Zif. E Saul gli dava la caccia tutti i giorni, ma Dio non lo consegnò nelle sue mani.
15 David was aware that Saul had mounted an expedition to take his life. David was then at Horesh inthe desert of Ziph.	15 Davide sapeva che Saul era uscito per attentare alla sua vita; egli stava allora nel deserto di Zif a Corsa.
16 Jonathan son of Saul set off and went to David at Horesh and encouraged him in the name of God.	16 Gionata, figlio di Saul, si mosse e andò da Davide a Corsa per infondergli coraggio nel nome di Dio.
17 'Do not be afraid,' he said, 'for my father Saul's hand wil not reach you. You are to reign over Israel,and I shall be second to you. Saul my father is himself aware of this.'	17 Gli disse: "Non temere perché la mano di mio padre Saul non ti potrà raggiungere; anzi tu regnerai su Israele e io ti sarò secondo. Anche mio padre Saul sa che è così!".
18 And the two made a pact before Yahweh. David stayed at Horesh and Jonathan went home.	18 I due conclusero un patto alla presenza del Signore. Poi Davide rimase a Corsa, mentre Gionata ritornò a casa sua.
19 Some men from Ziph then went up to Saul at Gibeah and said, 'Look, David is hiding among us inthe strongholds at Horesh, on the Hil of Hachilah to the south of the wastelands.	19 Alcuni Zifiti salirono a Gàbaa e dissero a Saul: "Davide non sta nascosto presso di noi tra i dirupi a Corsa, ma sulla collina di Cachilà, che è a sud di Iesimòn?
20 Now whenever you wish to go down, my lord king, do so; we shal make it our task to hand him overto the king.'	20 Or dunque, per tutta la brama che hai di scendere, o re, scendi! A noi il consegnarlo nelle mani del re!".
21 Saul replied, 'May you be blessed by Yahweh for sympathising with me.	21 Rispose Saul: "Siate benedetti dal Signore, ché avete avuto compassione di me!
22 Go and make doubly sure, find out exactly what place he frequents, for I have been told that he isvery cunning.	22 Andate dunque, assicuratevi ancora, cercate di individuare e vedere il luogo dove si posa il suo piede. Chi l'ha veduto là? Perché mi è stato detto: "Egli è molto astuto!".
23 Take careful note of al the hiding places where he lurks, and come back to me when you are certain.I shal then come with you and, if he is in the country, I shall track him down through every clan in Judah!'	23 Osservate e informatevi di tutti i nascondigli dove si possa rifugiare, poi ritornate da me con la conferma e verrò con voi, se sarà nella zona, lo ricercherò in tutti i casati di Giuda".
24 Setting off they went to Ziph ahead of Saul. Meanwhile, David and his men were in the desert ofMaon, in the plain to the south of the wastelands.	24 Essi partirono e ritornarono a Zif precedendo Saul. Intanto Davide e i suoi uomini erano nel deserto di Maon nella steppa a sud di Iesimòn.
25 When Saul and his men set out in search, David was told and went down to the gorge runningthrough the desert of Maon.	25 Saul andò con i suoi uomini a dargli la caccia, ma alcuni lo riferirono a Davide, il quale discese nel dirupo e rimase nel deserto di Maon. Quando Saul lo udì, si pose all'inseguimento di Davide nel deserto di Maon.
26 Saul and his men proceeded along one side of the mountain, David and his men along the other.David was hurrying to escape from Saul, while Saul and his men were trying to cross over to David and hismen's side, to capture them,	26 Saul marciava da un versante del monte e Davide con i suoi uomini dall'altro versante del monte. Mentre Davide spaventato cercava di sfuggire dalla faccia di Saul e Saul e i suoi uomini stavano accerchiando Davide e i suoi uomini per catturarli,
27 when a messenger came to Saul and said, 'Come at once, the Philistines have invaded the country.'	27 arrivò un messaggero a dire a Saul: "Su, sbrigati, parti, perché i Filistei hanno invaso il paese".
28 So Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to oppose the Philistines. That is why the place iscal ed the Gorge of Separations.	28 Così Saul cessò dall'inseguimento di Davide e marciò contro i Filistei. Per questo fu chiamato quel luogo: Rupe della separazione.
